Effie Lee Polite
Effie Lee Polite, 89, of Portland died Monday, May 7, 2001, at the Chicot Memorial Hospital in Lake Village. A lifelong resident of Portland, she was a homemaker and a member of the Portland #2 Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Velma Polite; her parents, Aungston and Jane Willis; and three sisters, Mamie Williams, Leola Harvey and Otha Mae Polite.
Survivors include five sons, James and Eldridge Polite of Portland, Artis and Percy Polite of Flint, MI, and Willie Polite of Sacramento, CA; three daughters, Jeweline Lewis and Minnie Connely of Little Rock and Erma Brooks of Jacksonville; a stepdaughter, Mildred Harris of Portland; a brother, A. J. Willis of Dermott; a sister, Hattie Polite of Hamburg; 31 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 13, in the Portland #2 Baptist Church with Rev. Dean officiating. Pallbearers were Zimme Moseby, Charlie Kennedy, Cedric Hawkins, Anthony Polite, Anthony Dotson, James Lewis and Randy Lewis. Burial followed services at the Portland #2 Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.

Mr. Karl R. Pollock, Jr.
Mr. Karl R. Pollock Jr., 19, of Hamburg died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, outside of Hamburg. A native of Bastrop, LA and a resident of Hamburg for most of his life, he worked for Underground Services and was also a construction worker. A member of the Faith Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Earl Pollock in 1997; his paternal grandfather, Willie Ray Pollock; his maternal grandmother, Willie Jo Boyer; his paternal great-grandfather, Rayburn West; and his paternal great-grandparents, Garland & Vira Pollock.
He is survived by his parents, Karl Ray Pollock of Crossett and Judy Roberts of Hamburg; a brother, Shawn Allen Pollock of Hamburg; two sisters, Jacquline Noel Pollock of Hamburg and Misty Winter Pollock of Bastrop, LA; a half brother, Blake Allen Mills of Hamburg; his paternal grandmother, Elsie Mae West Pollock of Hamburg; his maternal grandfather, Jackie Roberts of San Jose, CA, and his paternal great-grandmother, Elsia Lovitta West of Bonita, LA.
Funeral services were at 3:30 p.m., Friday, May 11, in the Mount Zion Baptist Church with Revs. Alan Eppinette and Tommy Boles officiating. Friends served as pallbearers. Interment followed services at the Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.

Mrs. Odelle White Sivils
Mrs. Odelle "Little Mama" White Sivils, 95, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at her residence in Hamburg. Mrs. Sivils was a native of Fountain Hill and a resident of Hamburg since 1943. She worked as a sales clerk for 35 years at Carpenters & Harrison's Department Stores and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She marriage Floyd Garland Sivils on December 24, 1919. in Fountain Hill. He preceded her in death in 1983. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Richard Arnold Carpenter, her parents, William E. & Sula Lane Griffin White; three brothers, Grover, Carl & Omer White; and two sisters, Jayne & Ailene White.
She is survived by two sons, Gwain Sivils and wife Mary Beth of Monticello and Johnie Sivils and wife June of Great Britain; two daughters, Marcelle Carpenter & Jayne Hobbs both of Hamburg; a brother, Sterling White of Fountain Hill; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 10, in the First Baptist Church of Hamburg with Revs. Klois Hargis & Charles Pullin officiating. Pallbearers were Bobby Griffin, Joe Sivils, Glen, Billy Ray, Kenney Ray and Jeffery Carpenter, Sam Hobbs and Billy Wayne Stafford. Honorary pallbearers were Buddy, Charles, Bill, Chuck & Stan White, Richard "Dickie" Sivils, Henry & Houston Austin. Interment followed services at the Hamburg Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

SAMUEL ARNOLD
Samuel Lawrence “Lil Sam” Arnold, Jr., 40, of Hamburg, died Aug. 7, 2015 in Drew County.
Funeral services were Aug. 29 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Arnold officiating.
He was an employee of Barnes Lumber Co. and a member of Soldiers Chapel AME Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Samuel Lawrence and Evelyn Gray Arnold; two brothers, James Arnold and Lawrence Arnold, and his grandparents, Rev. Robert and Sutilla Primm Arnold and Joseph and Mattie Hutchins Gray.
He is survived by a son, Jontavious Barfield of Bastrop, La.; two daughters, Sayveeon Arnold and Amilleeon Arnold, both of Hamburg; six sisters: Sharon Walls of Lake Village, Meyonna Arnold and Lawanda Simpson, both of Monticello, Peggy Brown of Bastrop, La., Carolyn Cromwell of Fayetteville, N.C. and Chanel Carter of Woodbridge, Va.; five brothers: Raymond Arnold of Los Angeles, Calif., Lawrence Arnold of Little Rock, LaDerron Arnold of Eudora, Brandon Brown of Hamburg and Cleophus Robinson of Omaha, Neb. and other relatives.
Pallbearers were Edward Brown, Mark Simpson, Vincent Mitchell, Willie Gulley, Todd Cox and Larry Adcock.
Cromwell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
