George Luther Chester
George Luther Chester, 89, of Dermott, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001 at the Dermott Nursing Home. Born January 13, 1912, in Camden, TN, Mr. Chester was a retired textile-mill worker, a deacon emeritus of Collins Baptist Church and the son of the late Jim and Lillie Chester. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arie Chester.
Survivors include one son, Walter Chester and wife Wanda of Hamburg; three daughters, Jean Hooks and husband Billy of Halley, Sue Merchant and husband Kenneth of Monticello, and Shirley Kizer and husband Bob of Collins; one sister, Lera Smothers of Camden, TN; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 4, at Collins Baptist Church. Burial took place in the Rash Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Bates officiating.
Pallbearers were Stan Chester, Glen Palmer, Johnny Murphy, Stephen Crane, Mark Hooks, Rusty Merchant, Bruce Kizer, and Danny Delahoussaye. Alvin Bates served as honorary pallbearer. Arrangements were made by Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home of Monticello.
Shirley Ann Fairchild
Funeral services for Shirley Ann Fairchild, 64, of Bastrop, LA, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in the Golden Funeral Home chapel in Bastrop with Rev. Paul Carter officiating. Pallbearers were Lonnie Polk, Shannon Polk, Luke Stowe, Mike Goyne, Ritchie Stanley, Bruce Stewart, Brian Stewart and Robert Allen Stanley. Burial followed services at the Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Fairchild died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, in the St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, LA. A member of the Cherry Ridge Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Lamarcus Chester Fairchild, a native and former resident of Fountain Hill; her father, Edwin Cameron Stanley; and two brothers, William "Shorty" and George Stanley.
Survivors are her mother, Rosie Copeland Stanley of Rayville, LA; two daughters, Marcia Allen and husband Mike of Bastrop and Anita Sivils and husband Randy of Katy, TX; a son, Stanley Lamarcus Fairchild of Monroe; three sisters, Martha Goyne of Monroe, Maggelene Polk of Pioneer, LA, and Rose Dale Stowe of Rayville; three brothers, Bobby Stanley of Rayville, Bill Stanley of Freer, TX, and Roy Stanley of Beaumont, TX; and three grandchildren, Staci Nicole Sivils of Houston, TX, and Holly Nicole and Chasity Denae Allen of Bastrop.
Loyce Fielder
Loyce Fielder, age 80, of Crossett died Sunday, May 6, 2001. She was born on June 14, 1920, to Guy L. and Ora May Rayner Monroe. She was employed by Georgia-Pacific for 34 years. Mrs. Fielder was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Cecil Fielder, Sr.
Survivors include one son, Cecil Fielder, Jr., of Mesquite, TX; two daughters, Carolyn Fielder and Patty Coody, both of Crossett; five granddaughters and two great-grandsons.
Visitation was to be held Tuesday, May 8, from 5 until 9 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Crossett. Funeral services were to be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 9 in the funeral home chapel with Bros. John Reed and Donnie Dubose officiating. Interment was to follow at 3 p.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery in Ball, LA.
Evelyn Dodd Kelley
Evelyn Dodd Kelley, 84, of Crossett, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at the Crossett Leisure Lodge. She was born on October 23, 1916, to William Green and Cora Ann Lee Dodd. In the 1930s, Mrs. Kelley worked at the Mercantile Store for several years and retired as a cafeteria worker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and loved to play the piano to entertain her family and friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Fleming Pruett.
Survivors include her husband, Tillman Kelley of Crossett; two daughters, Janice Pruett and Joyce Key, both of Spring, TX; one sister, Dorothy Dodd Hooks of Crossett; three grandchildren, Michael D. Leach, Brian J. Pruett, and Scott D. Pruett; and two great-grandchildren, Jennifer R. Leach and Mariann Pruett.
Funeral services were planned for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, at Jones Funeral Home chapel in Crossett with Bro. Bobby Stanford officiating. Pallbearers were to be Jerry, Jeremy and Danny Dodd, Kenneth Swan, Mike Buchner, and Dale Lauhon. Interment was to follow at Pinewood Memorial Park Cemetery.
