Alice Marie Doss
Alice Marie Doss, 88, of Crossett died Saturday, September 22, 2001, at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Born November 5, 1912, in Van Buren to Charlie and Mindy McAfee Young, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer L. Doss; two brothers, Harmon and Wes Young; and one sister, Elizabeth Bennett.
Survivors include a son, Harvey Doss of Crossett; four daughters, Hazel Alderman, Patsy Wright, Tressie Stodghill and Dessie Stevens, all of Rayville, LA; two sisters, Tressie Wright of Wilmot and Edith Nimmo of Crossett; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Monday, September 24, in the Jones Funeral Home chapel in Crossett with Bro. Dan Webb officiating. Pallbearers were Terrence Stodghill, Sr., Lynn Mullenaux, Elder Bunderson, Elder Allison, Elmer Strickland and Jackson E. Dye.
Burial followed services at the Unity Cemetery.

Mrs. Doris Lee Ford Pistole
Mrs. Doris Lee Ford Pistole, 94, of Coralville, Iowa, died Fridday, September 21, 2001. A native of Hamburg and a resident of Lantern Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Home since 1995, she was a resident of Fairfield, Iowa, for 36 years and a resident of Hamburg for many years. A member of the First Baptist Church in Hamburg, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Cecil Pistole, Sr. in 1989; a son, Billy Pistole in 1962, two grandsons, Carey Johnson in 1997 and Jason Bonnell in 2000; her parents, William M. & Mary Francis High Ford; four brothers, Charlie, Everette, Earl and Woody Ford; and three sisters, Jennie Knight, Avis King and Annie Lou Rodgers.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Pistole Ludlam and husband Miller of Hamburg; Ann Pistole of North Liberty, Iowa, and Linn Pistole Johnson of Ankeny, Iowa; a brother, Lawrence Ford of Panama City, FL; a sister, Laura Kridler of Corpus Christi, TX; a brother-in-law, Vaughn Pistole and wife Margaret of Crossett and a sister-in-law, Ona Ford of Hamburg; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren,.
Burial will be in the Judson Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Judson Cemetery Association, c/o Mr. Dennis Cox, 2512 Hwy 425 N., Hamburg, AR 71646 or to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 352, Hamburg, AR 71646.

Mr. John Rice
Mr. John Rice, 87, of Portland died Wednesday, September 19, 2001, at the Dermott City Nursing Home. A native of Bessemer, AL, and a lifelong resident of Portland, he was a retired farmer and loved making a beautiful garden and was a very hard working man. A member of the New Light Baptist Church in Portland, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Randell Rice; his parents, Will & Francis Craig Rice; and four sisters, Novella Caldwell, Harriet McCoy, Charlie McCoy and Annie Bell Scott.
He is survived by a sister, Clara Robinson of Portland; a brother, Rev. Eddie Rice of Warren; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were planned for 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, in the New Light Baptist Church with Revs. Eugene Mitchell and Eddie Rice officiating. Pallbearers were to be Ricardo Harron, David Morris, Vincent Ross, Nathaniel Morris, Will & Roy Caldwell. Honorary pallbearers were to be Henry Caldwell, Eddie Ross, Cleveland Caldwell and Eddie D. Rice. Interment was to follow services at the Portland #2 Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.

Mrs. Jaynie Louise Sivils
Mrs. Jaynie Louise Sivils, 82, of Crossett, died Wednesday, September 19, 2001, at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. A native of Fountain Hill, a resident of Crossett for most of her life and a resident of Hamburg for the past five years, she was a homemaker and a member of the Pine Forest Baptist Church. She was called "Essie" by her grandchildren and her memories will always be special to everyone that knew her. Whenever one came to her home, she always had one of her famous pound cakes or chicken and dumplings ready. While sitting crocheting or sewing, she enjoyed talking about family, God, and our nation. When leaving, fresh eggs from her chickens or her homemade pickles were always waiting at the door. She was a faithful Christian and always had her Bible by her side. When she was unable to go to church, she would listen to the taped services brought to her by her pastor. She was devoted to her God, her family, and her friends that she loved talking to on the telephone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Sivils in 1959 and her parents, Herman & Martha Ann Upshaw Culp.
She is survived by a son, Neal Sivils and wife Dana; a daughter, LaFran Bierbaum and husband Carl John, all of Hamburg; a brother, Durwood Culp and wife Mildred, of Bastrop, LA; a sister, Lola Boatright of Bastrop, LA; eight grandchildren, Jon Bierbaum and wife Stephanie, Cole Bierbaum and wife Diane, Chris Sivils and wife Jennifer, Josh Sivils, Dana Outlaw and husband Randall, Angela Rice, Brooke Sivils and Nicole Maxwell; and six great-grandchildren, Mary Ashleigh, Maddison Reah and Connor Bierbaum, Lauren Stone, Jordan Sivils and Alaina Rice.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Friday, September 21, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg with Dr. Bobby Pennington & Rev. Klois Hargis officiating. Pallbearers were Lane, Royce, Jim, David & Tommy Culp and Mark Gibson. Interment followed services at the Carter Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.
