Bessie Hawkins
There will be a home-going celebration for Bessie Hawkins at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016 at Greater First Church of God in Christ, 2101 W. Madison Ave. in Bastrop, La., with Pastor Gabriel Winston officiating.
Maxine Elizabeth Sturdivant
Maxine Elizabeth Sturdivant, 82, of Crossett died Tuesday, September 18, 2001, at the Crossett Leisure Lodge. Born December 25, 1918, to Edgar and Eula Harris Maxwell in Ashley County, she was a homemaker, raised cattle as a hobby and loved gardening. A member and Sunday School teacher at the South Crossett Missionary Baptist Church, she was a former member of the Ashley County Cattlemen's Association and served on the Democratic Election Commission for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, V. M. "Buddy" Sturdivant, and two brothers, Harris and Travis Maxwell.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Vance Sturdivant, John Maxwell Sturdivant and Robert Edgar Sturdivant; two brothers, Steve and Alan Maxwell; two sisters, Rose Walker and Melba Thomas, all of Crossett; seven grandchildren, Michael Kyle Sturdivant, Jacky Lee Hamm Sturdivant, Chance Cheyenne Sturdivant, Christopher Thomas Sturdivant, Jennifer Diane Sturdivant, Jana Lynn Sturdivant and Cara Leigh Sturdivant; and two great-grandchildren, BreAnn and Corby Sturdivant.
Funeral services were at 4 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, in the South Crossett Missionary Baptist Church with Dan Webb, Don Justice and Buddy Kinney officiating. Pallbearers were Anthony Sturdivant, Keith Maxwell, Julian Walker, Rank Thomas, Dennis Maxwell, Kyle Sturdivant, Chris Sturdivant and Robert Riles. Honorary pallbearers were Eddie Payne, J. B. Kelley, Lannie Sturdivant, Lynwood "Jack" Hamm and James Harrison. Burial followed services at Pinewood Memorial Park, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Mrs. Helon Pierce Wilcoxon
Mrs. Helon Pierce Wilcoxon, 89, of El Dorado died Tuesday, September 18, 2001, at the Oak Ridge Nursing Home in El Dorado. Mrs. Wilcoxon was a native and former resident of Hamburg and a resident of El Dorado for the past 40 years. She was an admitting clerk for the Warner Brown Hospital in El Dorado, retiring in 1980. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in El Dorado. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Andrew E. Wilcoxon in 1983 and H. F. "Jack" Sawyer in 1953; her parents, Walter & Eva Lee Withers Pierce; one brother and three sisters.
She is survived by a brother, Richard Pierce of El Dorado; and two nephews and close friends, Rev. Hugh & Marian Nelson of El Dorado.
Grave-side funeral services and interment were at 2 p.m., Thursday, September 20, in the Hamburg Cemetery with Rev. Hugh Nelson officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 200 W. Main, El Dorado, AR 71730 or to the Community Hospice (Union County) 1426 N. West Ave., El Dorado, AR 71730.
Robert Wiley “Butch” Davis
Robert Wiley “Butch” Davis, age 70, of Crossett, AR passed away on July 26, 2016 at his residence. He was born on February 17, 1946 in Hope, AR to his parents, Richard White and Ruby Mae Hardin Davis. Mr. Davis was an Engineering Assistant. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Richard White Davis, Jr. and a sister, Janis Reed.
Survivors include one son, Patrick Adam Davis of Warner Robins, GA; two sisters, Sue Reed (Raymond) of Grady, AR and Jean Cheeseman (John) of Crossett, AR and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Arrangements are under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett, AR.
