Mrs. Marie McCurdy Burns
Mrs. Marie McCurdy Burns, 78, of Snyder, died Monday, September 10, 2001, at the Rose Care Nursing Home in Stuttgart. Mrs. Burns was a native of Snyder; a lifelong resident of Ashley County and a resident of Snyder for the past 14 years. A retired farmer and member of the Montrose Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Washington Burns, in 1981; an infant son, a grandson, Joseph Michael Ballard; a great-grandson, Derick Michael Nichols; her parents, James & Luna Brown McCurdy; and eight brothers and sisters.
She is survived by six sons, David Burns of Montrose, Franklin Burns of Clarksville, TN, Earl Burns of Lake Village, Robert Burns of Crossett, Melvin Burns of Norwalk, CA, and Bernard Burns of Montrose; three daughters, Carolyn Swann of Snyder, Mary Cooley of Crossett and Martha Watts of Stuttgart; two brothers, James McCurdy, Jr., of Snyder and Edward McCurdy of Bakersville, CA; six sisters, Susie Burns of Monticello, Alice Sloan of Warren, Lizzie Walters of Fresno, CA, Beatrice Ackerman of Little Rock, Catherine Weideman of Cleveland, OH, and Ruby Savage of Pine Bluff; 24 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 13, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg with Rev. Larry Donaldson officiating. Grandsons were pallbearers. Interment followed services at the Old Union Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Old Union Cemetery, c/o Mr. Philip Bonnette, 192 Shelton Turner Road, Montrose, AR 71658.
Mr. Richie Emory
Mr. Richie Emory, 51, of Hamburg died Thursday, September 13, 2001, at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. Mr. Emory was born in Crossett and was a life long resident of the Promise Land community outside of Hamburg. He worked for the Georgia-Pacific paper mill for over 32 years. He was a dedicated member and Sunday School teacher of Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the Mist Deer Camp. He was the clock operator for the Hamburg High School football team for many years. He was instrumental in starting the Dixie Youth Baseball program in Hamburg and a national director for the Dixie Youth Baseball program and he was involved in the Hamburg Baseball Program for over 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Barbara Spurlin Emory of Hamburg; a son, Trey Emory of Hamburg; two daughters, Heather Smith and husband Dewayne of Oak Grove, LA and Genia Browning and husband David of Winnsboro, LA; his parents, Bobby & Janelle Chadwick Emory of Hamburg; a brother, Freddie Emory and wife Ann of Cleveland, TX; three sisters, DayLa Zieman and husband Sam of Spring, TX; KayLa Rabb and husband, Brian, and Susan Smith of Hamburg; a granddaughter, Bailey Smith and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 16, at the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Williams, Dr. Bobby Pennington and Rev. Jeff Alderman officiating. Pallbearers were Buddy & Scutter Kilcrease, Don Kelley, Drew Carpenter, Randy Rice, Marty Sartin, Butch Hill, Jack McDonald, Dale Streeter and Larry Smith. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Mist Deer Camp. Interment followed services at the Promise Land Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 30, Hamburg, AR 71646.
Elmar Donald Crutchfield, Sr.
Celebration of Life for Mr. Elmar Donald Crutchfield, Sr., 69, of Bastrop, LA, will be 11:00 AM Friday, July 29, 2016 at the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery Rayville, LA with Rev. Floyd Griffis officiating.
Mr. Crutchfield was born February 13, 1947 and passed from this life on July 17, 2016. He was a veteran who served in the United States Army. Mr. Crutchfield was a mechanic by trade. His pride and joy was spending time with his family especially the grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Ota Crutchfield; two brothers and a sister.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Janie Parnell Crutchfield; five children, Elmar Crutchfield, Jr., Janell Nugent (Jay), Alicia Crutchfield, Dottie Bailey, and Theresa Booth (Ben); nine grandchildren; as well as numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends.

Katherine Rachel Stratton Dixon
Katherine Rachel Stratton Dixon, age 101 of Crossett, AR passed away on July 21, 2016 at the Lifetouch Hospice. She was born on January 20, 1915 in Hermitage, AR to her parents, John Edward and Lizzie Padfield Stratton. Mrs. Dixon had worked for the Crossett Lumber Company and was a homemaker. She loved her family, quilting and working in her flower garden. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends. Mrs. Dixon was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Palmer C. Dixon; her son, Abie Gerald “Jerry” Dixon; her step-mother, Gertie Stratton; three brothers, Harold and Pete and Phil Stratton and two sisters, Ruby Evone and Emma Marjorie Stratton.
Survivors include one son, William Dixon of Crossett, AR; one daughter, Mary Whitworth of Benton, AR; one sister, Gloria Jean Buckaloo of Memphis, TN; two grandsons, Gerald Dixon of Crossett, AR, Philip Whitworth of Benton, AR; two granddaughters, Christina Dixon of Portland, OR, Kristen Whitworth of Hot Springs, AR and four great-grandchildren, Christina and Casey Dixon of Eldorado, AR, Camryn Gulledge of Hot Springs, AR and River Whitworth of Benton, AR.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Jones Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett, AR.
