James Goree
James Goree, 86, of Wilmot died Sunday, September 16, 2001, at his home. A native of Crossett and a Wilmot resident for the past 50 years, he was a retired truck driver and a member of the First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Cornelius Turner Goree; four brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mrs. Annie Goree; one daughter, Bernice Mackie of Oakland, CA; two sisters, Almedia Adams of St. Louis, MO, and Travestine Bennett of Bastrop, LA: six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 22, in the First Baptist Church of Wilmot with Rev. James Crockett officiating. Pallbearers will be Cleveland Parker, Billy, Robert and Charles Kitchen, Les Mackie and Cleveland Armstrong. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Natt, Luther, Otis, Earl and Jim Kitchen and Naaman Williams. Burial will follow services at the Jim Smith Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.

Bealie Harrison
Funeral services for Bealie Harrison, 93, of Bastrop, LA, were at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 12, in the Tillou Baptist Church with Revs. Danny Roberts and Andy Myrick officiating. Burial followed services at the Extra Cemetery, with arrangements by Golden Funeral Home of Bastrop. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bertie Kitchens and Zelma Harber; and three brothers, Herbert Harrison, Lee Harrison and Gaston Harrison. He died Monday, September 10, 2001, in the Morehouse General Hospital.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mildred Sikes Harrison; two daughters, Debra Harrison Hughes and Shirley Harrison Warner of Bastrop; one son, John E. Harrison of Bastrop; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Layne Warner, Michael Harrison, Chris Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Allen Campbell and Clint Turner. Honorary pallbearers were Brandon Stevenson, Steve Atkins, Dr. Carter Cox, Julian Kinnaird, Holden Harrison, Matthew Campbell and Chase Turner.

Mrs. Barbara J. Higginbotham
Mrs. Barbara J. Higginbotham, 69, of Hamburg died Friday, September 14, 2001, at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. Mrs. Higginbotham was a native of Ashley County and a lifelong resident of Hamburg, a homemaker and a member of the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ardell & Iva Mae Hill Bates; and two brothers, Robert Howard Bates & Marvin W. Bates.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Higginbotham, Sr.; three sons, Frank Higginbotham, Jr., and wife Kathryn, Billy Ray Higginbotham, and Lamar Higginbotham and wife Janice, all of Hamburg; a daughter, Beverly Mosley and husband Wayne of Crossett; a brother, Richard Bates and wife Becky of Clarksville, TN; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, September 16, at the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church with Revs. Jimmy Bates, Charles Pullin, E. W. Ricks & Kenny Williams officiating. Pallbearers were Larry Smith, Luther Richardson, Daniel Grygrecyk, Dewayne Bussell, Alvin, Gene & Dale Bates. Honorary pallbearers are the deacons of Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church and Floyd Ellingburg. Interment followed services at the Trafalgar Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Trafalgar Cemetery Association, c/o Ben Lawrence, 859 Ashley Road 105, Montrose, AR 71658 or to the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 30, Hamburg, AR 71646.

Roy Lee McQuay
Roy Lee McQuay, 65, of Hamburg died Monday, September 10, 2001, at the Ashley County Medical Center. A native of Hamburg and a member of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by his parents, Dee and Gasie Sanders McQuay; two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include four sons, Royal Haywood of Las Vegas, NV, Michael Haywood of Winfield, LA, Gary Haywood of Tallulah, LA, and Herman Haywood of Los Angeles, CA; four daughters, Florene Jasper of Hamburg, Theresa Brown of Gary, IN, and Ronesha and Brittany McQuay of Tallulah, LA; six brothers, Rev. Oble McQuay, Rev. Olderns McQuay and Hollis McQuay of Hamburg, Roosevelt McQuay of Jackson, MS, Willie McQuay of Eagle Lake, MS, and R. J. McQuay of Gary, IN; three sisters, Ollie Fowler and Claudine Tolliver of Hamburg and Maudine Ervin of Gary, IN; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday, September 14, in the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. W. R. Taylor officiating. Pallbearers were Frederick Simpson, Levell Stanley, Thurman Bradley, Curtis Tolliver, Lawrence Booker and Joe Williams. Burial followed services at the Johnson Memorial Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
