Christine Prescott
Christine Prescott, 62, of Crossett died Saturday, September 8, 2001. Born May 9, 1939, in Crossett to Garfield and Bertie Pilgrim Campbell, she was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church where she was a firm advocate of tithing. She loved collecting angels and sending birthday and other cards. A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Carrie Naff and Lois Hunter.
Survivors include her husband, Ottis Prescott of Crossett; one daughter, Sharon Rogers of El Dorado; a grandson, Ben Burgess of El Dorado; and two sisters, Ruth King of Crossett and Louise Hays of Warren.
Funeral services were at 4 p.m. Monday, September 10, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett with Bro. Randy Maxwell officiating. Pallbearers were Junior Burden, Eugene Burnett, John P. Daugherty, Glenn, Roger and Steve Naff, Robert Prescott and Teddy Thurman. Honorary pallbearers were Eugene, Terry and Clarence Barnett, Charles Naff, Douglas and L. D. Prescott and Tommy Lee Sexton.
Burial followed services at the Simms Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Mount Olive Baptist Church or the Paul Sullins Library.

Vera Lee Brown
Vera Lee Brown, 80, of Crossett died Thursday, September 6, 2001, at the Ashley County Medical Center. She was born February 5, 1921, in Strong to Charlie and Linnie Fikes Holmes.
Survivors include two sons, Cleazell and Charles Brown of Crossett; two daughters, Virginia Brown Guilford of Upper Marlboro, MD, and Ruth Brown Byrd of Crossett; 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Monday, September 10, in the Pleasant Green Baptist Church with Rev. Steven Conley officiating. Burial followed services at the Westview Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.

Mrs. Madeline Burks
Mrs. Madeline Burks, 82, of Crossett, died Saturday, September 8, 2001, at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. A native of Hamburg; a resident of the Cooter Community outside of Crossett since 1975 and for many years a resident of Fountain Hill, she was a homemaker and a member of the Wallers Chapel United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Burks, in 1974; her parents, Roddy & Annie Carter Lochala, and a sister, Hazel McCaig.
She is survived by three sons, Bobby Burks of Louisville, MS, Mack Burks of Broken Bow, OK and Carl Burks of Laurel, MS; a daughter, Betty Helmbeck of Jacksonville; a brother, Roddy Lochala of Hamburg; two sisters, Edith Redenour of St. Marys, GA and Kate Murphy of Crossett; a sister-in-law, Lois King of Crossett; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 11, in the Wallers Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Brad Elrod officiating. Pallbearers were to be nephews Butch & Rick Lochala, Frank, Bill, Mike & Phil Murphy, Billy & Johnny King. Interment was to follow services at the Flat Creek Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Wallers Chapel United Methodist Church, 998 Ashley 14 North, Crossett, AR 71653 or to the Flat Creek Cemetery Association, c/o Mr. V.W. Cason, 213 Ashley 482, Fountain Hill, AR 71642.

Mrs. Jean Compton
Mrs. Jean Compton, 69, of Hamburg, died Thursday, September 6, 2001, at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. A native of Ashley County, raised in Hamburg, she was a resident of Andrews, TX, for many years before moving back to the Milo Community outside Hamburg 14 years ago. A homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ in Hamburg, she was preceded in death by her parents, F. L. & Annie L. Hartley Craig; a brother, Garland Craig and two sisters, Elsie Bryan and Ann Blazier.
She is survived by her husband, Howard Compton of Hamburg; a step-son, Michael Lynn Compton of Tampa, FL; a step-daughter, Charlotte Davis of Abilene, TX; a brother, Bruen Craig of Crossett; five sisters, Ruby Turner of Coleman, TX, Lavada Osborne of New Braunfels, TX, Winnie Oglesby of Hamburg, Vivian Thurman of Lawton, OK and Norma Warren of Bryan, TX; five step-grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 8, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg with Revs. Joe Sponaugle and Roy Craig officiating. Pallbearers were Craig, Albert and Dennis Blazier, Mark Moffatt, James Robert Meeks, Riley Frank Craig, Billy Don Oglesby, Laderl Craig and Oliver Griffin. Honorary pallbearers were Junior Moffatt, Dennie Jenkins, Jimmy Meeks Macel Baker, Jim Meeks and Johnnie Guthrie.
Interment followed services at the Eden Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Eden Cemetery Association, c/o Mr. Jerry G. Stanley, 4026 Hwy 133 N., Hamburg, AR 71646.
