Resie Lee Wimberly
Resie Lee Wimberly, 73, of Crossett died Monday, September 3, 2001. Born on August 9, 1928, to Henry Neal and Sylvania Ellis Sanders, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Wimberly; five brothers, Elie, Roosevelt, Ernest, Cleo and Ulas Sanders, Sr.; and a sister, Mattie Davis.
Survivors include a stepson, Aldo Wimberly of Crossett; a daughter, Vickie Wimberly of Crossett; one brother, Resie Dee Sanders of Chicago, IL; two sisters, Rebecca Bynum of Chicago and Earnestine Abraham of Crossett; and three grandsons, Jessie Wimberly, Charles Maloon and Clarence Maloon, all of Crossett.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 8, in the New Bethel Baptist Church. Burial followed services at the Pugh Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Chester Lee Mansfield
Chester Lee Mansfield, 48, of Crossett died Tuesday, August 28, 2001, in Eudora. A native of Wilmot, but a resident of Crossett for the past 28 years, he was formerly a truck driver for Charles Brooks Logging and was a member of the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Earnestine Mansfield; two sons, Chester Andre Mansfield and Demarcus Terrell Mansfield of Crossett; two daughters, June Evelyn Fields of Crossett and Veverly Rachelle Williams of Bastrop, LA; his parents, Lee Henry and Tessie Dixon Mansfield of Eudora; three sisters, Lore Farris of Eudora, Lavern Williams of Little Rock and Susan Deane of Dallas, TX; and four grandchildren, Darus Fields, Brandon Fields, Briauna Williams and KeyShawn Mansfield.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Friday, August 31, in the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. B. J. Jackson officiating. Pallbearers were Larry Morgan, Jimmy McHenry, Willie Bryant, T. C. Lewis, Robert Thompson, Charles Brown, Jr., Glenn Johnson and Michael White. Burial followed services at the Westview Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Kinneth Stell
Kinneth Stell, 75, a native of Hamburg, died Monday, August 27, 2001, at Mercy Hospital in Chicago, IL. Born May 26, 1926, in Ashley County, he lived in Hamburg until he moved to Chicago after his marriage. He was a member of VFW Post #5079 in Bridgeport, IL, and a past member of American Legion Darius-Girenas Post #271. A veteran of World War II, he was the grandson of the late James Carroll and Della Haley Stell and the son of the late William Benson and Velma Martin Stell. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, J. B., Bobby, Jimmy and DeWitt Stell and his sisters, Gertrude Stell Hill, Odell Stell Tullos, Vennie May "Peg" Stell Moore and Mimmie Bell Stell Sims; and two children, Elizabeth and Kevin Stell.
Survivors include children Janette of Arlington, TX, Suzanne of Anna, IL, and Kenneth "Mike" Stell of Chicaco and Denise Ostrowski and husband Frank of Chicago and Theresa Downey and husband of Anna, IL.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 30, at the Pomierski & Son Funeral Home in Chicago. Burial followed services at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to veterans' organizations.
MAMIE (MCFEE) SMITH
Mamie (McFee) Smith was born December 5, 1921 in Portland, Arkansas to the sharecropping family of Leon and Lizzie McFee in Ashley County Arkansas who preceded her in death. After sharecropping, she worked as a domestic and as custodian with the Pine Bluff School District. She was the youngest and last survivor of fifteen children.
She married Burgess Smith (deceased) and moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas in 1946 and joined Damascus M.B. Church under Rev. Smith and remained a member until her health required she move to Texas, St. Louis Mo., and finally Crossett, Arkansas. She was visiting family in Texas at the time of her death. While a resident at Stonegate Villa in Crossett, she united with the Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by five children: Celester (Lucille) Smith, Brenda Faye (Napoleon) Carter, Alvin (Alma) Smith, Debra Bell, Frederick (Bernice) Davis and Ethel Woods (neice/daughter). Her oldest daughter, Gloria Dean West preceded her in death. She leaves to celebrate her life nineteen grandchildren who each contributed to her life: Valerie West, Leroy West, Jr., Craig West, Cedric West, Stephanie Smith, Chris Smith, April Smith, Chandra Carter, Jocelyn Carter, Timberly Baker, Keith Smith, Danielle Smith, Tamika Smith, Alvin Smith, Jr., Deidre Varela, Frankie 'Lejon' Bell, Shelby Marquez, Frederick Arnell Davis and Cyniece Davis; thirty-six great-grandchildren, at least one great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral service is set for Friday, May 20 - 10:00 am at Damascus MBC in Pine Bluff, AR.
