Demontria Andre Hampton
Demontria Andre Hampton, 26, of Crossett died Sunday, August 19, 2001, at the University Hospital in Little Rock.
A lifelong resident of Crossett, he was a member of the Pleasant Green Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, David Hampton, and his grandparents, Oscar and Odell Lewis.
Survivors include two daughters, Adrianna Hampton of Crossett and Neisha Hampton of El Dorado; his father, Raymond Hampton of Crossett; his mother and stepfather, Matthew and Mary Hampton Bowman of Crossett; four brothers, Robert, Jr., Earl, Cleophis and Robert Levell Hampton, all of Crossett; four sisters, Ruth Laverne Hampton of Crossett, LaJoyce Benton of North Little Rock, Otha Jean Hampton of Oakland, CA, and Contray Hampton of Little Rock; his finance, Trina Johnson of Crossett; 17 nieces, six nephews and one great-niece.
Funeral services will be at 11 a..m. Friday, August 25, in the Gates Chapel A. M. E. Church with Rev. Witherspoon officiating.
Pallbearers are to be Ulyss Haynes, Caine Wells, Mike Ellis, Reggie Martin, Aaron Govan and Jimmy Lee Mayweather.
Burial will follow services at the Westview Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Mrs. Erma C. Howie
Mrs. Erma C. Howie, 87, of Hammond, LA, died Wednesday, August 15, 2001 at her daughter's residence in Hammond.
Mrs. Howie was a native of Parkdale, a resident of Hammond for the past 16 years and a resident of the Mount Pleasant community east of Hamburg for most of her life.
She was a homemaker and was known for her homemade sausage. She was a member of the Jerusalem Baptist Church in Hammond where she was secretary of the Beulah Sunday School Class.
She was a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church for many years, a former member of the Mount Pleasant Home Demonstration Club and was the caretaker of the Mount Pleasant Cemetery for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Howie in 1976; an infant son, Robert Howie; a great-grandson, Lyndon Howie; her parents, Edward & Kate Williams Caldwell; a sister and two brothers.
She is survived by a son, Edward Howie and his wife, Vera, of Start, LA; a daughter, Carolyn Clark and husband Gerald of Hammond, LA; three brothers, Edward Caldwell of Mablevale, J. L. Caldwell of Van Nuys, CA, and Carl Caldwell of Pine Bluff; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 18, in the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with Revs. Eugene Howie & Houston Austin officiating.
Pallbearers were Dewayne, Don & Sanders Brooks, Joey White, Gary Williamson and Kevin Burns.
Interment followed services at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.

Rhuben Lee Newton
Rhuben Lee Newton, 87, died Wednesday, August 15, 2001, at his residence in Crossett. A native of Strong, he was a retired Georgia-Pacific paper mill employee.
He was also a retired barber who worked at the Greenview Barber Shop for over 55 years.
A member of Gates Chapel A. M. E. Church where he was Sunday School superintendent, a steward, trustee, Bible study leader, class leader and group study leader, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Newton, and his parents, Eugene and Florence Williams Newton.
Survivors include his wife, Albertine Warren Newton; four sons, Rhuben Newton, Jr., and Isaac Newton of Oakland, CA, and Joe G. and Dennis Newton of Crossett; a stepson, Elbert Ray Gibbs of Crossett; two daughters, Rebecca Newton of Crossett and Florence Milton of Oakland, CA; a stepdaughter, Patricia Duff of Crossett; one brother, Charles Newton of Toledo, OH; one sister, Deborah Dawkins of Strong; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Monday, August 20, in the Gates Chapel A. M. E. Church with Rev. T. A. Broomfield officiating.
Pallbearers were Darryl, Herman and Waymon Newton, Ervin Dawkins, Eugene Streeter and Robert Duckworth, Sr.
Burial followed services at the Quinn Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Mr. Frank H. Pearson
Mr. Frank H. Pearson, 88, of Hamburg died Thursday, August 16, 2001, at his residence.
A native of Ashley County and a resident of the Shiloh community north of Hamburg for the past 65 years, he was a retired farmer and a produce manager for Footes Grocery Store in Hamburg and the Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store in Crossett for many years.
A member of the Fountain Hill Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Mae Downey Pearson, in 1996; his parents, William & Mary Berry Pearson; four brothers, Billy, Jimmy, Marvin & Byron Pearson; and three sisters, Bobbie Tilton, Mamie Lynn & Myron Pearson.
He is survived by a son, Frank Douglas Pearson of Searcy; two daughters, Arline Lloyd and Mary Carolyn Stanley and husband Roma of Hamburg; two brothers, John B. Pearson and wife Maxine of Crossett and Jack Pearson and wife Johnnie of Houston, TX; two sisters, Frances Lynn of Houston, TX and Jane Richards of Houma, LA; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 18, in the Shiloh Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were Hershell Kelley, Bobby Hales, Shelby Scott, Noel Dean McGilton, Jimmy Jones & Jimmy Meeks.
Interment followed services at the Flat Creek Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.
