Biographical And Historical Memoirs of Pulaski, Jefferson, Lonoke, Faulkner, Grant, Saline, Perry, Garland And Hot Spring Counties, Arkansas

Mariadelcarmen Mongragon
Mariadelcarmen Mondragon, the 15-day-old daughter of Odilon & Marisol Mondragon of Hamburg, died Tuesday, August 21, 2001, at the University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock.
She is also survived by two brothers, Octaviano & Cruz Mondragon both of Hamburg; her maternal grandparents, Daniel & Juana Mondragon of Snyder; her paternal grandparents, Cruz & Carmen Mondragon of Hamburg; her maternal great-grandparents, Luiza Mondragon of Mexico and Abigail Chavez of Mexico and her paternal great-grandfather, Octaviano Trajillo of Mexico.
Grave-side funeral services and interment were at 10 a.m., Friday, August 24, in the Hamburg Cemetery with Father Neil Pezzulo officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg

William Evans Place
William Evans Place, 78, of Little Rock died Monday, August 20, 2001. Born in Gillett to Ralph and Evans Barnes Place, he was a 1945 graduate of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville and first taught school in Gillett before moving with his parents to Parkdale. He joined the Postal Administration and became the postmaster at Parkdale. Mr. Place was an administrator for the Arkansas Rehabilitation Administration in El Dorado before he and his late wife, Vera Warfield Place founded Place Nursing Home in Wilmot.
He served one term as president of the Arkansas Nursing Home Association and also served on the State Board of Nursing. He was elected mayor of Wilmot and served for over twenty years. In 1986 he
marriage the former Sally Smith McGaughy and moved to Little Rock in 1989. He then worked for the Arkansas Department of Human Services in the Long Term Care Division for over ten years, until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church, where he served as a Stephen Minister and as an usher. He was also an avid Razorback fan and long time member of the Little Rock Razorback Club.
He is survived by his wife, Sally; one son, William Evans Place, II and wife Susan of Ann Arbor, MI; one daughter, Wendy W. Place of Little Rock and step-daughters, Leslie Turley and husband Rex of Rogers, Linda Inebnit and husband Tommy of Hot Springs, Cindy Harris and husband Mike, and Ginger Townsend and husband Mike of Little Rock; one grandson, Daniel Place and nine step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and a daughter, Susan Warfield Place.
A rosary was held at 6:00 p.m.Wednesday, August 22, in the Ruebel Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 23, at Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church with burial of cremated remains at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Wilmot Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic School or the Monsignor Allen Trust Fund.

Mr. Michael "Woodie" Wood
Mr. Michael "Woodie" Wood, 28, of Crossett died Thursday, August 23, 2001, at his residence in Crossett. Mr. Wood was a native of Monticello; a resident of Crossett for the past 15 years and a former resident of Hamburg. He was a graduate of Hamburg High School and a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Brown Wood.
He is survived by a daughter, Kelsey Wood of Hamburg; his father and step-mother, Bill & Glenda Wood of Hamburg; a sister, Denita Wells of Hamburg; his maternal grand mother, Pearl Brown of Monticello; three step-sisters, and two step-brothers.
Grave-side funeral services and interment were at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 25, in the Eden Cemetery with Rev. Robert Wood officiating. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Eden Cemetery Association, c/o Mr. Jerry Stanley, 4026 Hwy 133, Hamburg, AR 71646.

Georgia Hazel Christmas
Georgia Hazel Christmas, 89, of Bastrop, LA, died Friday, August 17, 2001, in the Hickory Manor Nursing Home in Bastrop. She was a homemaker and a member of the Westside Baptist Church in Bastrop.
Survivors include two sons, Carroll V. Christmas and wife Syble and Jimmy Christmas and wife Peggy of Bastrop; one sister, Irene Stell of Hamburg; two brothers, Gerald White of Hamburg and Charles White of Houston, TX; six grandchildren, Susan White, Debbie Pettis, Mary Bryan, Faye Frost, Christy Wright and Chris Christmas; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 19, in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home in Bastrop with Rev. Presto Church officiating. Pallbearers were Matt Spikes, Chris Christmas, Troy Bryan, Ronald Pettis, Jack Frost and Reggie White. Burial followed services at Memorial Park Cemetery in Bastrop.
Memorials may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, c/o Lisa Mailhes, 2304 Pinehurst, Monroe, LA 71201.
