Mrs. Pearl E. Burks
Mrs. Pearl E. Burks, 99, of Hamburg died Monday, July 30, 2001, at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. A native of Banks, Georgia, and a resident of Hamburg for the past 12 years, she was a homemaker and a member of the Bethlehem Church of Christ Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Burks, a son, two daughters, her parents, Generah & Nora Strickland Hopkins; a brother and a sister.
She is survived by a daughter, Anna Watkins of Hamburg; two grandsons, Larry Cooper of Peoria, IL, and Willie L. Watkins of Albuquerque, NM. and a granddaughter, Flossie Watkins of Hamburg.
Grave-side funeral services and interment were at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 2, at the Johnson Cemetery with Pastor Mary Arnold officiating. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Darlene Rice
Darlene Rice, 58, of Monticello, died Saturday, June 30, 2001 at her home. She was born May 3, 1943, in Monticello to the late Harold Dean and Marie Free Piper. A a sales clerk at Barton's Lumber Company and a member of the Assembly of God, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Delburt Jackson, and one granddaughter, Cindy Hawkins Smith.
Survivors include two sons, Johnny Rice and Bobby Rice, both of Monticello; two daughters, Julie Kinnaird of Fountain Hill and Renee Ferrell of Johnsville; four brothers, Ronnie Piper and Johnny Piper, both of Monticello, and Donnie Piper and William Piper, both of Rogers; two sisters, Margaret Nealey of Pine Bluff and Brenda Walker of Monticello; thirteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held July 3 at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with the Revs. Terry Newman and R.V. White officiating. Burial was at Green Hill Cemetery with arrangements by Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home of Monticello. Pallbearers were Chuck Karnes, Brett Burton, Larry Fisackerly, David Forrest, Clarence Wells and Kenny Loveless.
Mrs. Paula Selby
Mrs. Paula Selby, 48, of Montrose, died Sunday, August 5, 2001, at the Chicot Memorial Hospital in Lake Village. A native of Ashley County and a resident of Montrose most of her life, she was a member of the Montrose Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Joan Tiner Selby in 1971; a brother, Charles Michael Selby, and her grandparents, John Herbert & Mary Lucy Ann Selby, Paul & Mary Tiner.
She is survived by a daughter, Christy Ward of Walden, CO; her father, Leon Selby of Montrose; two brothers, Freddy Selby of Lake Village and Brian Selby of Colorado Springs, CO; a sister, Brittney Selby of Montrose; two grandsons, Jonathon & Matthew Scucchi and a host of family & friends.
Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, in the Montrose Baptist Church with Bro. Jerry Selby & Rev. Larry Donaldson officiating. Pallbearers were to be Thad, Michael, Scott & Brian Selby, Jody Moreau and Jimmy Ward. Interment will be in the Snyder Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Mrs. Wanda Rice Stanley
Mrs. Wanda Rice Stanley, 43, of Hamburg died Saturday, August 4, 2001, at her residence. A native and lifelong resident of the Milo community outside of Hamburg, she graduated from Fountain Hill High School in 1976, the Crossett Beauty School and the Great Rivers Vo Tech School in McGehee. She was a beautician and a member of the Mount Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Mark Stanley; a daughter, Farrah Lansdale Sawyer; her parents, Weldon & Virginia Meeks Rice; a brother, Danny Wade Rice, all of Hamburg; two grandchildren, Harley & Bryce Sawyer and two nieces.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Monday, August 6, in the Mount Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff King officiating. Pallbearers were Timmy Craig, Michael Stanley, Tony Moffatt, Ricky Hawkins, Brian Craig, Jackie Davis, Jay McClain & David Cunningham. Honorary pallbearers were Randy Griffith and Lamar Vestal. Interment followed service at the Egypt Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Egypt Cemetery Association, c/o Mr. John Laing, 272 Ashley Road 454, Hamburg, AR 71646.
