June 14, 1922, in Crossett to James Howard and Helen McDougald Estelle, he retired as a particle board supervisor at Georgia-Pacific Corp. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II and a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and after retiring, became involved with woodworking. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Marie Garrett and Merle Kemp, and a grandson, Paul Adcock.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Estelle of Crossett; five daughters, Marianne Little of Fort Smith, Jeanie Binns of Houston, TX, and Helen Outlaw, Jimmie Smith and Rose Kinard, all of Crossett; one brother, Dr. John Wayne Estelle of Salem, OR; a sister, Mary Ruth Lupa of Two Harbors, MN; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, July 30, in the Mount Olive Baptist church with Revs. Randy Maxwell and Steven Carroll officiating. Pallbearers were Billy Binns, Don Little, David Smith, David Kinard, Brian Little, Chad Little, Michael Shaw, and Todd Shaw.
Burial followed services at Pinewood Memorial Park, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Charles C. Hanson
Charles C. Hanson, 91, of El Paso, TX, died Saturday, July 14, 2001. Born in Berea to Dr. Charles and Laura Jo Hanson on October 23, 1909, he graduated from Arkansas A&M College in 1935.
After graduation, he became a teacher and principal at McGehee High School. During World War II, his National Guard unit, the 206th CAAA was inducted into the U. S. Army in 1941 and was ordered to Dutch Harbor, Alaska. Highlights of his career included induction into the regular U. S. Army in 1947, attending the Canadian Army Staff College in Kingston, Ontario, and attending the Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He achieved the rank of colonel and retired from the Army in 1960. In 1963, he moved to El Paso, TX, and taught chemistry at Bel Air High School for 12 years, retiring from teaching in 1975.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian J. Hanson; a daughter, Patricia C. Hanson; and two sisters, Mary Mildred Elizabeth Scott and Willie Ruth Hicks.
Survivors include his son, Charles C. Hanson, Jr., and wife Grace; four grandchildren, Celina M. Hanson, Chrystal L. Hanson, Carrie Catharine Gray, Charles H. Smith and wife Maria, and eight great-grandchildren, Brad Gray, Tara L. Gray, Chad E. Gray, Jessica L. Gray, Kevin C. Smith, Clayton C. Smith, Kenneth D. Smith and Raven G. Hanson.
Grave-side services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 20, at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery with arrangements by Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina.
Mr. Jose Huante
Mr. Jose Huante, 20, of Hamburg died Friday, July 27, 2001, at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. A native of Las Canoas Mpia de Zacupa Michoacan, Mexico, he had lived in Hamburg since 1980. A 1998 honor graduate of Hamburg High School, he was employed at Georgia-Pacific's plywood mill in Crossett. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Survivors include his parents, Herminio and Celia Torres de Huante of Hamburg; two brothers, Cesar and Edgar Huante; and a sister, Guadalupe Herrera, all of Hamburg.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Monday, July 30, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home in Hamburg with Father Chet Artysiewicz officiating. Pallbearers were Rigo Perez, Alfredo and Fernando Mondragon, Ignacio Herrera, Rogelio Palmerin and Roy Barajas. Burial followed services at the Hamburg Cemetery.
Mr. Marshall D. Williams
Mr. Marshall D. Williams, 52, of Parkdale, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at his sister's residence in El Dorado. Mr. Williams was a native of Dewitt; a resident of Parkdale for most of his life and a resident of El Dorado for the past three years. A retired truck driver and a Baptist, he was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Marshall Williams, and a brother, Ricky Williams.
He is survived by his mother & step-father, Elizabeth & Albert Rand of Parkdale, a brother, Philip Williams of Redfield; three sisters, Pat Hall of Pine Bluff; Cathy Strother of Wilmot and Robbie Molnaird and husband Allen of El Dorado; a step-brother, Steve Rand of Warren; eight nieces and nephews and one great-nephew.
Grave-side services and interment were planned for 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 31, in the Parkdale Cemetery with Stanton Veazey officiating. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg
