Tim S. Berry
Tim S. Berry, 77, of Crossett died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at the Ashley County Medical Center. Born January 6, 1924, to Thomas H and Mary Ellen Cauthen Berry in Sparkman, he was an Air Force veteran of World War II, serving as an airplane electrical mechanic for the Thirtieth Bomber Squadron. He was stationed in Guam during the air offensive campaign in the Western Pacific. His decorations and citations included the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, AP Theater Ribbon and two Bronze Service Stars. He was honorably discharged January 1, 1946, with the rank of sergeant, but continued to serve in the reserve corps for four more years. A member of the First Baptist Church and a retired particle board plant superintendent, he was very active at the Crossett Senior Citizen Center and enjoyed traveling and fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sibyl Berry; two infants sons, and two brothers, Daniel and Gervais Berry.
Survivors include two daughters, Julie LaFoon of Crossett and Pam Glosup of Bastrop, LA; two brothers, Thomas H. Berry of Texarkana and Gerald A. Berry of Sutherland, VA: and four grandchildren, Jason Keen of Shreveport, LA, and Benjamin, Wesley and Rosalind LaFoon, all of Crossett.
Funeral services were planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, in the Jones Funeral Home chapel in Crossett with Buddy Kinney and Jerry Grant officiating. Burial was to follow services at the Carter Cemetery.

Mr. Fred E. Emory
Mr. Fred E. Emory, 89, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001 at his residence in Hamburg. Mr. Emory was a native of Hamburg and a resident of Hector for many years before moving back to Hamburg in 1987. He was a retired forester for the U.S. Forest Service. He was an U. S. Army veteran of World War II; a member of the First Baptist Church in Hamburg and a former member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Hector. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Cheek Emory and his parents, Oscar & Mayme Shockley Emory.
He is survived by a brother, Bobby Emory of Hamburg; a sister, Beatrice Locke of Crossett and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Friday, July 6, in the First Baptist Church in Hamburg with Dr. Bobby Pennington and Rev. Klois Hargis officiating. Pallbearers were Richie & Freddie Emory, Brian Rabb, Sam Zieman, Richard Smith, Ronnie LaGrone & Henry Bierbaum. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Carl Locke Sunday School Class. Interment followed services at 4 p.m, Friday, July 6, in the Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville with Rev. David Carpenter officiating. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 352, Hamburg, AR 71646.
Helen Vines Toney Howie
Helen Vines Toney Howie, 83, of Crossett died Saturday, July 7, 2001, in Monroeville, AL. Born March 11, 1918, in Ashley County, she worked as a receptionist in the executive offices of Georgia-Pacific for many years. A member of the First Baptist Church of Crossett, Mrs. Howie was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Howie.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Gail Howie of Crossett; a daughter, Betty Howie of Monroeville, AL; three grandchildren, Cathy Howie of Monroe, LA, Cindy Craig of Crossett and David Burchell of Sewanee, TN; and two great-grandchildren, Brad Howie and A. J. Craig.
Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, in the Jones Funeral Home chapel in Crossett with Rev. Jimmy Lewis and Father George Hart officiating. Burial was to follow services at Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Sally Marie Owens
Mrs. Sally Marie Owens, 58, of Hamburg died Saturday, July 7, 2001, at the Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. A native of Chicot County and a resident of Hamburg for the past three years, she was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert Owens; a son, Forrest Daniel Sandefur in 1997, her parents, Lee & Nancy Ziggler Trigleth; two sisters; a brother and a half-brother.
She is survived by three sons, Eric Walter Sandefur of Marion, Adrian Keith Sandefur of Nesbit, MS, and Kayle Wade Sandefur of Marion; two brothers, Caleb Trigleth of Lake Village and Jessie Trigleth of Eudora; two sisters, Betty Stanley of Hamburg and Martha Ann Baker of Columbus, MI and seven grandchildren.
A private burial of her ashes will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.
