Jimmy D. Ballard
Jimmy D. Ballard, 67, of Crossett died Thursday, December 20, 2001, at his home. Born April 1, 1934, to Simon P. and Mable Harrington Ballard in Bonnerdale, AR, he was a member of the Jarvis Chapel Baptist Church and retired as millwright after 30 years of service with Georgia-Pacific. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Billie Ball.
Survivors include his wife, Lula Jean Johnson Ballard of Crossett; one son, Tim Ballard of Crossett; two daughters, Lynda Sullivan of Berryville and Pam Ballard of Crossett; six grandchildren, Greg and Tony Goodwin, Rainey Sullivan, Steven and Jason Carter and Stacey Swan; eight great-grandchildren, Sam, Nora, Mandy, Maggie, Lukas and Isabella Goodwin, Ryan Swan and Jenna Carter; one niece, one great-niece and one great-great-niece. >br> Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 22, in the Jarvis Chapel Baptist Church with Revs. Ray Hearron and Lawrence Amos officiating.
Burial followed services at the Arkadelphia Cemetery, with arrangements by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Memorials may be made to the ALS Foundation (Lou Gehrig's Foundation) or Hospice Home Care, 455 West Gaines, Monticello, AR 71655.

Riley Ray Furgerson, Sr.
Riley Ray Furgerson, Sr., 68, of Crossett died Tuesday, December 18, 2001, at the Ashley County Medical Center. Born July 28, 1933, in Marsdon, AR, to William and Barbara Davis Furgerson, he had 28 years of service for Georgia Pacific Central Stores, served in the Air Force and faithfully attended Trinity Freewill Baptist Church. He loved to fish, garden and spend time with his family. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Furgerson; and two grandchildren, Latisha Pyle and Erica Pyle.
Survivors include a son, Junior Furgerson of Crossett; two daughters, Angela Pyle of Bismarck and Melissa Jones of Hamburg; three grandchildren, Gabrielle Pyle, Cole Jones and Hailey Furgerson; and three sisters, Pauline Garrett of Warren, Irene Smith of Conway and Lou Henley of Norphlet.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, December 21, in the Trinity Freewill Baptist Church with Revs. Bruce Culp and Paul McKissic officiating.
Burial followed services at Pinewood Memorial Park, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.

Tommie Laverne Rodgers
Tommie Laverne Rodgers, 74, of Crossett died Tuesday, December 18, 2001, at the Ashley County Medical Center. Born November 25, 1927, in Tinsman to Thomas Jefferson and Edna Irene Bowen Brumley, she was a Baptist and retired from McDermott's after ten years of service as a sales clerk. She also was a substitute teacher in home economics and typing and was very active in civic duties such as counting votes on election day and participating in the census.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Joseph C. Rodgers of Crossett; two sons, Tommy Joe Rodgers and wife Lori and Benny Alan Rodgers, all of Fort Worth, TX; one brother, Harold Dean Brumley of Crossett; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Pippen of Crossett; and two grandchildren, Brandon J. and Jared M. Rodgers.
Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Thursday, December 20, in the Jones Funeral Home chapel in Crossett with Bro. Gene Thomas officiating. Pallbearers were Jerry Brumley, Terry Lane Pippen, Dennis Maxwell, Damon Dean, Bobby Joe Kelly and Thomas Van Sivils.
Burial followed services at the Crossroads Cemetery.

Hildegarde Elizabeth Arens Schueth
Hildegarde Elizabeth Arens Schueth, 96, of Crossett died Sunday, December 16, 2001, at the Ashley County Medical Center. Born September 10,1905, in Dyersville, IA, to William H. and Mary Barbara Schirmer Arens, she was a retired nurse's aide and enjoyed visiting with people. A member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman A. Schueth, and a daughter, Elizabeth Jean Schueth.
Survivors include one son, Phillip Schueth and wife Mary Jane of Crossett; one brother, Arthur Anthony Arens of Marion, IA; four grandchildren, Stephen, Gail, Katie and Daniel; and two great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 22, in the Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Neil Pezzulo officiating. A visitation, followed by a prayer service, was held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, December 21, in the Holy Cross Catholic Church. Honorary pallbearers were Bruce Coffey, Bobby Gill, Frank Mazzanti, Charles Grassi, Louis Horton, Ron Henley, Oscar Nelson and Martin Gutman.
Interment will be announced later, to be held at the St. Francis Xavier
Cemetery in Dyersville, IA, with arrangements by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Memorials may be made to the Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2400 Main Street, Crossett, AR 71635 or to St. Jude's, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
