Mrs. Velora Bozeman
Mrs. Velora Bozeman, 84, of Portland died Thursday, November 29, 2001, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Hamburg. A native of Monticello and a resident of Portland for the past 57 years, she was a member of the Portland Baptist Church and a cook at the Portland School for many years. She was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Bozeman, in 1998, and her parents, George and Mary Haynes Hudgins.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Guy David Bozeman of Portland; five sons, David Bozeman and wife Betty of Portland, Charles Bozeman and wife Linda of Monroe, LA, George Bozeman and wife Robbie of Portland, Russell Eugene Bozeman of Little Rock, and Jimmy Bozeman and wife Donna of Portland; three daughters, Mary Jane Streeter and husband Buck of Little Rock, Karon Roberts and husband Jimmy of Hamburg, and Julia Bridges and husband Daniel of Kingsburg, CA; 21 grandchildren, 32 great- grandchildren, and two great-great- grandchildren.
Funeral services were planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg with Rev. Robert Wood & Bro. Jerry Selby officiating. Pallbearers were to be Jim Young, Tipton Pugh, Dave Hackett Jr., Wilburn Martin, Jerry Blake and Frankie Martin. Interment was to follow services at the Portland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Portland Baptist Church, P. O. Box 86, Portland, Ark., 71663.

Barbara Jo Cortez
Barbara Jo Cortez, 60, of Lake Village, died Wednesday, November 28, 2001, at the Chicot Memorial Hospital in Lake Village. Born February 8, 1941, in Bastrop, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Tomie Cook and Vivian Stanley Cook, she was a homemaker and member of First Free Will Baptist Church. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Cortez; and two brothers, Willie and Lee Cook.
Survivors are two sons, Leroy Cortez and wife Karen of Monticello and Michael Cortez and wife Linda of Lake Village; 5 daughters, Elizabeth Morgan and husband Paul, Tina Naquin and Telisha Morgan, all of Lake Village, Kelly Morgan and husband Ronald of Montrose, and Shelly Prestridge and husband Bill of Coleen, TX; six brothers, Edwin Lee Cook and Michael Cook of Collingston, LA, Tommy Ray Cook of Greeley, CO, Donald Cook of Ashdown, Tommy Williams Cook of Lincoln, AL, and Roger Cook of Rayville, LA; four sisters, Phyllis Moore of Epps, LA, Connie Wiggins of Meridian, MS, Deborah Diel of Bastrop, LA and Trishe Bradshaw of Ashdown; 24 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 2, in the Bishop Funeral Home in Lake Village chapel with Rev. Robert Davis officiating.
Burial followed in Holy Innocents Cemetery.

Johnnie Mae Walker Evants
Johnnie Mae Walker Evants, 82, of Crossett died Friday, November 30, 2001. Born December 18, 1918, to James U. and Ruth Shockley Walker, she was a homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church of Crossett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee F. Evants, and two sons, Jim and John Evants.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Charles Coleman of El Dorado; two grandchildren, Stefanie Jernigan and husband David of North Little Rock and Chuck Coleman of Germantown, TN; and three great-grandchildren, Alex, Emily and David.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 2, in the Jones Funeral Home chapel in Crossett with Rev. Bobby Pennington officiating. Pallbearers were David Jernigan, Troy Farmer, J. W. Harris, Frank Englerth, Jim Martindale and Don Davis.
Burial followed services at the Lakewood Cemetery.

Mrs. Rea Johnson
Mrs. Rea Johnson, 88, of Parkdale, died Sunday, December 2, 2001, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Hamburg. A native of Atkins and a resident of Parkdale since 1929, she was a homemaker and the oldest living member of the Parkdale Baptist Church where she was a member for over 70 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Johnson, in 1985; a son, Frank Johnson, in 1995; her parents, Arthur & Ethel Holloway Myers; three sisters, Syble Lloyd, Ruth Harrison and Reba Hall and five brothers, A.R. " Poss," Tom, L.D., James & Hubert Myers.
She is survived by a son, Carlos Johnson; a daughter, Peggy Skender both of Crossett; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Tuesday, December 4, at the funeral home. Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 5, in the Parkdale Baptist Church with Rev. Harry Noble officiating. Pallbearers are to be James Spurlock, L.D. Myers, Dale Myers, David Johnson, Rickey Brantley & Gary Skender.
Interment will be in the Parkdale Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Parkdale Baptist Church, PO Box 6, Parkdale, AR 71661.
