Helen Ida Grove Myers
Helen Ida Grove Myers, 98, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Oct. 10, 2005, at Bentonville Manor in Bentonville, Ark. She was born Feb. 6, 1907, in Bluffton, Ind., to Harry O. Grove and Ida May Grove.
Formerly a resident of Tulsa, Okla., and Kansas City, Mo., she moved to Bella Vista in 1978. She was a retired receptionist and switchboard operator, having worked in Kansas City for Greyhound Lines and Sinclair Oil Co. (Atlantic Richfield Co.). She was active in the Red Cross and the P.B.X. Club of Kansas City and was a past president of the Opti-MRS Club (Optimist Club) of Raytown, Mo. She was also active in the Bella Vista Women's Club and did volunteer work for Bates Memorial Hospital and Concordia Care Center. She was a member of the Bella Vista Community Church, where she served as a deacon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David H. Myers, on Nov. 9, 2001.
Survivors include four stepsons, Kenneth Larson of Warsaw, Mo., Harold B. Larson of Renton, Wash., David Myers of Bella Vista and Robert Myers of Palm City, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Oct. 13 at the Bella Vista Community Church.
Arrangements were by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.
Jesse Earl Johnson
Jesse Earl Johnson, 77, of Decatur, Ark., died Oct. 13, 2005, at his home, following a long illness. He was born May 2, 1928, in Tahlequah, Okla., to Jesse M. Johnson and Mae Johnson.
He attended Bagley High School and was senior class president in 1946. He was a first-class construction electrician in the Navy Seabees, serving most of his time on Guam, Mariana Islands, stationed with the 109th Battalion. He was employed by Indiana Harbor Inland Steel before moving to Oklahoma, where he was maintenance manager for Callery Chemical Co. He retired from B.F. Goodrich in Miami, Okla., after 20 years there as an electrician.
He was a member of Elks Lodge 1320 of Miami. He served as exalted ruler twice in 1974-75 and 1977-78, and was appointed deputy grand exalted ruler for northwest Oklahoma for 1982-83. In 1986, he was named Elk of the Year for his loyal and meritorious service. He continued to serve as a four-year trustee. He participated in the yearly hoop shoot for youngsters and in the collection and distribution of Christmas food baskets and toys for the underprivileged, and made sure elderly veterans were not forgotten. He enjoyed sports, especially Oklahoma University football.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Lester Johnson; a son, Wayne Johnson; and a granddaughter, Heather Fleeman.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Ruth Johnson; a son and daughter-in-law, Eric R. Johnson and Kim Johnson of Bella Vista, Ark.; a daughter and son-in-law, Kristine Addington and Gene Addington of Decatur; a sister, Vivian Cox of Tahlequah, Okla.; four grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Oct. 15 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Miami with the Rev. Donald Kirchhoff.
Burial was at the Glen Abby Cemetery in Miami with graveside rites said by the Rev. Donald Kirchhoff and by Harold Jones of Miami Elks Lodge 1320.
Pallbearers were Douglas Leader, Gene Shamblin, Bob Reavis, Jack Stepp, Bob Minson and Harold Jones.
Honorary pallbearers were Jim Seward, Larry Ridings, Ronnie Miller, Dave Charloe, Eddie Wynn and The Officers of the Lodge.
Memorials may be made to HOPE Inc. -- an organization dedicated to helping oncology patients and their families -- at 210 S. Thompson, Springdale, Ark.
Local arrangements were by Stockdale Funeral Services of Rogers, Ark.
Delvin DeeWayne Teel
Delvin DeeWayne Teel, 84, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Oct. 9, 2005, at his home. He was born Aug. 31, 1921, in Menlo, Kan., to Frank Teel and Cathrine Badgley Teel.
He was raised and educated in Nebraska. He married Opal Turner on July 15, 1942, in Norton, Kan. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He farmed in the Menlo and Rexford area of Kansas. He retired in 1983 and moved to Bella Vista in 1986.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patty Jeanne.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Opal Teel of Bella Vista; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy Wayne Teel and Susan Teel of Wichita, Kan.; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice Ann Klaurens and Rex Klaurens of San Antonio; three grandchildren, Kimberly, Scott and Aimee; and a great-granddaughter, Alissa.
Graveside funeral services were held Oct. 14 at the Rexford Cemetery in Rexford, Kan.
Arrangements were by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory of Bella Vista.
Mildred E. Van Nice-Reed
Mildred E. Van Nice-Reed, 87, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Oct. 8, 2005, in Bentonville, Ark. She was born March 13, 1918, in Urbana, Iowa, to Charles Oliver Rosekrans and Mae Parker Rosekrans.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Distefano of Bella Vista.
Funeral services were held Oct. 11 at the Garden View Chapel in Waterloo, Iowa.
Burial was at the Midwest Garden of Memories in Waterloo.
Local arrangements were by Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Bentonville, Ark.
Lillie Mae Artman
Lillie Mae Artman, 83, of Bentonville, Ark., formerly of Tullahoma, Tenn., died Oct. 19, 2005 at Northwest Medical Center of Benton County.
She was born May 10, 1922 to J.J. and Bessie Marie Bishop in Lawrence County, Tennessee. She married Cecil Artman on Aug. 2, 1940, and was married for 62 years.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, her parents and husband.
Survivors include sons, James Artman and wife, Linda of Tullahoma, Tenn.; Ray Artman and wife, Maybelle of Tullahoma, Tenn.; daughter, Linda Dean of Bentonville, Ark.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 23 at the Church at Pinnacle Hills in Rogers, Ark. of which she was a faithful member. Local arrangements were by the Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, Arkansas.
Burial will be at a later date at the Rosehill Memorial Gardens, Tullahoma, Tenn. under the direction of Tullahoma Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Church at Pinnacle Hills, Special Treasurers Fund, 5431 Pinnacle Point Drive, Rogers, Ark. 72758.
Robert John Baer
Robert John Baer, 63, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, at his home.
Arrangements are pending with Rollins Funeral Home of Rogers, Ark.
