Ray Junior Couch
Ray Junior Couch, 72, of Gentry, Ark., died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, in Bentonville, Ark. Born July 11, 1928, in Siloam Springs, Ark., he was the son of Ernest Ray Couch and Ida May Warren Couch. Couch had been a lifetime resident of the Siloam Springs/Gentry area and graduated from Gentry High School. He worked for Pet Milk Company for more than 25 years and was a livestock farmer. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and Eagles Nest Ministry of the Central Christian Center in Joplin, Mo. He was also a member of the First Christian Church in Gentry. On Dec. 7, 1947, he marriage Inez Bergthold in Siloam Springs.
Survivors include his wife Inez Couch of the home; three sons, William Ray Couch of Rogers, Ark.; James Alan Couch and his wife Elaine of Siloam Springs; and Kent Warren Couch and his wife Jamie of Gentry; two daughters, Yvonne Annette Couch of Bentonville, Ark. and Rita Fay Sherman and her husband Robert of Bentonville; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother William E. “Bill” Couch of Siloam Springs; five sisters, Helen Campbell of Benson, Ariz.; Wilma McDowell of Siloam Springs; Oneita McKnight of Derby, Kan.; Catherine Bergthold of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; Betty Hendrix of Siloam Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Nov. 8, 2000 at the First Christian Church in Gentry with Jim Whisenant, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Gentry Cemetery with services under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home of Siloam Springs, Ark.

Carlos Edwin Hammond
Carlos Edwin Hammond, 62, of Gentry, Ark., died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital in Siloam Springs, Ark. Born Feb. 28, 1938, in Frederick, Okla., he was the son of Lee and Laura Rasmussen Hammond. He marriage Charlene Parks on June 4, 1962, in Akron, Colo. He worked as a poultry field medicator for Peterson Industries, a cowboy on the Allen’s family farm as well as in other fields of work. He loved horses and rodeos. Hammond was a member of the Presbyterian church in Akron, Colo., and was a veteran of the U. S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene Hammond, of Gentry; five children, Carlene and husband Mark Scott, of Colcord, Okla.; Carlton Hammond of Colcord; Carlette Wilson of Tontitown, Ark., Carson and Wanda Hammond of Gentry; and Carlissia Hartley of Gentry; one brother, Leland Hammond of Sterling, Colo., one sister, Iva Kirksey, of Denver, Colo., and nine grandchildren. Hammond was preceded in death by two brothers, Bert and Charles Hammond and two sisters, Jane Burdi and Mary Ann Overton.
Services were Nov. 10, 2000, at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Chapel. Billy Parks officiated the service and cremation services followed under the direction of the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.
Dean Nowlin
Dean Nowlin, 63, of Siloam Springs, died Nov. 7, 2000, in Siloam Springs, Ark. Born Mar. 22, 1937, in Gravette, Ark., he was the son of Orval and Ruby Ann Clark Nowlin. He marriage his wife Martha on Oct. 24, 1980. He was a retired mechanic for Arkhola Sand and Gravel. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jean Simpson, and one grandson, Little John James.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Nowlin, of the home; seven sons, Steven Nowlin, Norman Nowlin, James Rhine, Darrell Rhine, Randell James and David James, all of Springdale, Ark., and Fred Mathews of Morrilton, Ark.; two daughters, Jeana Nowlin Foster of Springdale and Michelle Fayard of Morrilton, Ark.; two sisters, Beverly Winningham and Sharon Misener, both of Siloam Springs; and 15 grandchildren.
Graveside services were Nov. 10, 2000, at Friendship Cemetery in Springdale with Fred Mathews officiating.
Pallbearers were Kevin Winningham, Tony Barnes, Junior Roberts, Carlos Winningham, Bobby Barnes and Randell James. Honorary pallbearers were Steven Nowlin, Shawn Nowlin, Jerry Foster and Timothy Fayard. Arrangements were by the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale.
Shirley Bea Philpott
Shirley Bea Philpott, 65, of Decatur, Ark., died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in rural Colcord, Okla. Born April 27, 1935, in Atwood, Kan., she was the daughter of Cecil E. Reed and Helen Lily Reed. Philpott was the former owner/operator of a service station in Decatur. She marriage Donald Wayne Philpott on Aug. 20, 1951, in Decatur. Philpott was a longtime resident of Decatur, moving there from Kansas.
Survivors include one son, Pancho Philpott of Decatur; two daughters, Peggy Don Gunter and her husband Tom of Decatur and Sharon Jean Wood and her husband Ron of Colcord, Okla.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Tom Reed; six sisters, Irene Brown of Vian, Okla.; Helen Twist of Louisiana; Katherine Wimer and Hazel Ann Berger, both of Idaho; Pauline Eubanks of Siloam Springs, Ark., Etna Olds of Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Nov. 8. 2000, at Wasson Memorial Chapel in Siloam Springs with the Rev. Kenneth Payne officiating. Burial followed in Decatur Cemetery with services under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.
Byron J. Soucy
Byron J. Soucy, 81, of Gentry, Ark., died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in Rogers, Ark. Born Oct. 17, 1919, in Kellogg, Idaho, he was the son of Sidney and Zola Cady Soucy. Soucy had been a resident of the Gentry area since the early 1950s having moved from Idaho. He had retired from the Bynum Motor Company as a detail worker. Soucy served his country in World War II in the U. S. Army and was in action in Normandy, northern France, the Ardennes, the Rhineland, central Europe and in European air offensives with the 474th and the 428th fighter squadrons. Soucy was a member of the West Siloam Springs Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include one step-daughter, Joyce Mundy, of Springtown, Ark.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one nephew.
Funeral services were Nov. 9, 2000, at the Springtown Pentecostal Church with Sherman Robinson officiating. Burial followed in Springtown Cemetery with services under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.
Bessie Opal Gullick
Bessie Opal Gullick, 81, of Summers, Ark., died Feb. 10, 2001, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Ark. Born Nov. 25, 1919, in Poteau, Okla., she was the daughter of John Samuel Marler and Laura R. Thorn Marler. Gullick was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Gullick; one daughter, Freda Epperson; two brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include four sons, Willard Vernon Gullick Jr. of Lincoln, Ark., William C. Gullick Of Siloam Springs, Ark., John S. Gullick and David E. Gullick, both of Summers; three daughters, Dorothy Perez of Rogers, Ark., Edna M. Kelsay of West Siloam Springs, Okla., and Thelma Jean Holland of Summers; one brother, J.B. Marler of Oakhurst, Okla.; 16 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Feb. 13, 2001, at the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel in Prairie Grove, Ark., with burial following at Old Union Cemetery in Summers.
Pallbearers were family members and friends. Services were under the arrangement of the Luginbuel Funeral Home of Prairie Grove, Ark.
Alford Lehon Oakley
Alford Lehon Oakley, 79, of Bentonville, Ark., died Feb. 10, 2001, at his home. Born Jan. 24, 1922, Lowell, Ark., he was the son of A.W. Oakley and Lois Davis Oakley. Oakley was a lifetime resident of northwest Arkansas and was involved in a grocery and produce business for most of his life. He was a member of the Park Street Baptist Church in Bentonville. He was preceded in death by his wife Viola Oakley in 1983 and by one son, Perry George Oakley.
Survivors include one son, James Oakley of Bentonville; one daughter, Patricia Sousley of Decatur, Ark.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Feb. 13, 2001 at the Park Street Baptist Church in Bentonville with the Rev. Ron Roughton officiating. Burial followed in Cave Springs Cemetery, Cave Springs, Ark., with services under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs.
Jess Crittenden
Jess Crittenden, 80, of Colcord, Okla., died Jan. 17, 2002, at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital in Siloam Springs, Ark.. Born July 15, 1921, in Adair County, Okla., he was the son of Jesse and Mary Bell Crittenden.
>Crittenden marriage Ruby Grisham on Sept. 14, 1940, in Adair County. He was a retired owner/operator for the Pet Milk Company and Cobb Vantress, both in Siloam Springs. He was a member of Crittenden Baptist Church in Watts, Okla.
>He was pre eceded in death by his wife; his parents; four brothers, Walter, Fred, Isaac and Lester Crittenden; a daughter, Barbara Louise Crittenden, and a son Jesse Lee Crittenden.
>Survivors include three sons, Eugene Grisham of Medford, Ore., and Larry Crittenden and Dean Crittenden, both of Colcord; a sister, Elizabeth Fields of Catoosa, Okla.; a brother, Haskell Crittenden of Watts; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Colton Ryan Doughty, 6, of Decatur, Ark., died Jan. 28, 2002 at his home. Born April 17, 1995 in Rogers, Ark., he was the son of Frank Doughty and Sheri Thomason Doughty.
>Doughty was a spirited loving boy, who enjoyed life to the fullest. He enjoyed playing Nintendo, wrestling with his daddy, helping his mommy make cookies and eating the cookie dough, riding his 4-wheeler, and loving his family.

Burial will follow at Springtown Cemetery in Springtown, Ark. Services are under the direction of Wasson Funeral Home.

Stanley H. Fox
Stanley H. Fox, 52, of Gentry, Ark., died Jan. 18, 2002, at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital in Siloam Springs, Ark. He was born July 3, 1949, and was a lifetime resident of Gentry.

>Charles L. Latham
Charles L. Latham, 83, of Normal, Ill., died Jan. 13, 2002, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Normal. Born March 15, 1918, in Granville, Ill., he was the son of Fred and Margaret David Latham.
>Latham was a member of Christ Church, PCA, in Normal. He was in the Blommington Golden K Kiwanis Club and the Christian Businessmen Committee of Chicago. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II and a member of V.F.W. Post 1492 in Streator, Ill., where he served two terms as post commander. He also chaired the Voice of Democracy Program sponsored by his V.F.W. post for many years. He marriage Barbara Gerbrich on June 9, 1951, in St. Paul, Minn., and had worked as an X-ray technician at St. Mary's Hospital in Streator for 27 years prior to retirement.
>He was preceded in death by his parents.
>Services were Jan. 19, 2002, at Christ Church, PCA, in Normal, with Pastor Bob Smart officiating. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Streator.
