H. L. "Hody" Wineland
Dr. H. L. "Hody" Wineland, 85, of Little Rock, Ark., formerly of Pine Bluff, Ark., died on Jan. 15, 2005, at Parkway Health Center.
He was born Nov. 11, 1919, in Boynton, Okla., the son of Herbert Lee Wineland and Elsie Allred Wineland.
He attended the U.S. Naval Academy and the University of Oklahoma. He graduated from Colorado College and Vanderbilt University Medical School. At Vanderbilt, the was president of Alpha Omega Alpha, the honorary medical fraternity. His internship was at Vanderbilt. He served his residency in internal medicine at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where he was chief resident. He practiced internal medicine in Pine Bluff from 1956 until his retirement in 1987.
He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association, the Arkansas Medical Society and a member and past president of the Arkansas Society of Internal Medicine.
He was a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps and a veteran of World War II. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pine Bluff where he served as Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He loved golf, Razorback sports, bridge, dancing and travel.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ollin Wineland; and his sister, Nampalee Fowler.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Selma Lee Hull Wineland, of Little Rock; three sons and daughters-in-law, Hugh F. Burnett, M. D., and Sally Burnett of Little Rock, H. Lee Wineland, M. D., and Pam Wineland of Maumelle, Ark., and Greg Wineland and Angela Wineland of Brandon, Miss.; and four daughters, Pam Willis and Maurice Willis of Bentonville, Ark., Daria Wineland and John Porton of Jensen Beach, Fla., Teresa Wineland and Keith Cooper of El Dorado, Ark., and Vicki Randel of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 17, with a rosary to follow at 7 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth, 5800 W. 12 th St., Little Rock.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Little Rock.
Burial of the cremains will follow later in Seminole, Okla.
Memorials may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 N. W. 9 th Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494; to St. Joseph School in Pine Bluff; or to the Catholic Diocese of Little Rock.
Clovis Colbert
Clovis Colbert, 88, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, in Springdale, Ark.
Born Oct. 5, 1916, in Caddo, Okla., he was the son of Richard Earl Colbert and Emma Gertrude Owens Colbert.
He lived in Siloam Springs since 1975, having moved from Sonoma, Calif., where he worked for the Safeway Corporation until his retirement. He was a World War II Navy veteran who served in the South Pacific. He married
Marjorie Fellis on Nov. 16, 1946, in Reno, Nev. During retirement, he enjoyed raising cattle and being a member of Eastgate Church of Christ in Siloam Springs.
He was proceeded in death by one son, David William Colbert; and by his brother, R. B. Bob Colbert.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Colbert, of the home; two sisters, Dovie Mae Burris of Sun City, Ariz., and Alene Wright of Denver, Colo.; and one granddaughter, Bridget Colbert of Craig, Colo.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Wasson Memorial Chapel in Siloam Springs with Charles Cash.
Inurnment will be at a later date in Sonoma, Calif. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Wasson Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or the American Heart Association.
Lillian Joan Goranson
Lillian Joan Goranson, 70, of Bella Vista, Ark., died at her home on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005 in Bella Vista.
She was born April 15, 1934 in Hope, Kan., to Edward Albright and Matilda (Kern) Albright.
She moved to Bella Vista in 1996 from Salina, Kan., and became a member of Bella Vista Lutheran Church where she was active in LWML and Women’s Bible Study. She was a member of the Bella Vista 9-Hole Women’s Golf and loved to play bridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Richard A. Stuewe.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Goranson of Bella Vista; two sons, Robert Stuewe of Santa Fe, N. M., and Randall Stuewe and wife, Cindy, of Monterey Calif.; one step-daughter, Joanie Pfeiffer and husband, Al, of Omaha, Neb.; two step-sons, Mark Goranson and wife, Sue, of Red Oak Iowa, and Kirk Goranson and wife, Diane, of Crete, Neb.; one sister, Eleanor Wierman and husband, Dean, of Bella Vista; two grandchildren, Connor and Caitlin Stuewe, and five step-grandchildren, Ethan Pfeiffer, Mathew, Christopher, Justin and Wesley Goranson.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005 at Bella Vista Lutheran Church, 1990 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista with Pastor Ronald Pfluger officiating.

Reverend James W. Phillips
Reverend James W. Phillips, 75, died on Monday, February 7, 2005 while in Florida. He was a resident of Bella Vista, Ark., with his best friend and devoted wife, Phyllis. He was born on September 1, 1929 in Oconto Falls, Wisc.
He served in the Army for five years in Germany and Japan. For 37 years, James served as a pastor in California, Iowa and Wisconsin.
He is survived by his wife, of 48 years, Phyllis Phillips of Bella Vista; two sons, Edward Phillips and wife, Peggy of Columbia, Mo., Dave Phillips of Bentonville, Ark.; a sister Betty Laabs of Arizona; a brother, Jack Housner and wife, Nancy of Kenosha, Wisc.; and four grandchildren, Briana, Nathan, Bethany Phillips of Columbia and David Phillips Jr. of Racine, Wisc.
A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. with visitation at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at the Bella Vista Baptist Church, 50 East Lancashire Blvd., Bella Vista with Pastor Joe Baker officiating.
