Dixie Dean Cash Johnson

Dixie Dean Cash Johnson, 53, of Berryville, Ark., died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005. She was born May 4, 1952, in Eureka Springs, Ark., to James Charles Cash and Edna Loraine Dean Cash.

She marriage Royce Johnson on Dec. 22, 1969. She was a homemaker and a member of the Kings River Full Gospel Church in Eureka Springs. She enjoyed caring for her pet, Ralph.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Edna Cash; a brother-in-law, Randy Johnson; and her father-in-law, Charles Johnson.

Survivors include her husband, Royce Johnson; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James Johnson and Tammy Johnson, and Doug Johnson, all of Berryville; two granddaughters, Lauren Johnson and Kayleigh Johnson, both of Berryville; her mother-in-law, Joan Johnson of Eureka Springs, Ark.; a sister-in-law, Linda Wright of Bentonville, Ark.; two brothers-in-law, Larry Wright of Bentonville and Jerry Johnson of Eureka Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel in Berryville with the Rev. Tim Garrison.

Burial will be at the Eureka Springs Cemetery in Eureka Springs, Ark.

Arrangements are by Nelson Funeral Service of Berryville.

Memorials may be made to the Kings River Full Gospel Church, 6683 Highway 62 E., Eureka Springs, AR 72632.

Gerald Eugene ‘Gene’ Forkner

Gerald Eugene "Gene" Forkner, 83, of Bigelow, Ark., formerly of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at Fort Roots Veterans Hospital in North Little Rock, Ark. He was born Dec. 25, 1921, in Reeds, Mo., to Art Forkner and Addie Elam Forkner. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He marriage Grace Hess on July 28, 1946, in Siloam Springs. He was a manager at Allen Canning Co. in Siloam Springs for 38 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Siloam Springs, where he served as a deacon. After his retirement, he built a woodworking shop to build carts designed by Troy Anderson for the Dogwood Festival. He was an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Brown.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Grace Forkner; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny Forkner and Debbie Forkner of Springdale, Ark.; a daughter, Janice Caldwell of Bigelow; a sister, Eunice Heaven of Inola, Okla.; a grandson, Bryan Caldwell of Bigelow; a granddaughter, Shianna Malone of Bauxite, Ark.; and six great-grandchildren, Garren, Kristen, Rowan, Bethany, Rebecca and Kasia.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the First Christian Church in Siloam Springs with Pastor Riley Donica and Jason Murphy.

Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Siloam Springs.

Arrangements are by Wasson Funeral Home of Siloam Springs. Lee’s Summit, Mo. Robert L. Dean Grimm

Robert L. Dean Grimm

Robert L. Dean Grimm, 84, of Lee’s Summit, Mo., formerly of Bella Vista, Ark., died Friday, Sept. 9, 2005. He was born July 31, 1921, in Newton, Kan., to Archie Grimm and Maybelle Grimm.

After graduating from Newton High School in 1939, he served 3 1/2 years in Europe during World War II. He graduated from Emporia (Kan.) State College in 1949, then coached high school football, basketball and track in Peabody, Kan. He was called to serve in the Korean War in 1950. Upon his return, he coached high school sports in Preston and Larned, Kan.

He worked for 33 years for State Farm Insurance in Great Bend, Kan., and Kansas City. He retired to Bella Vista, Ark., in 1991. He and his wife moved to John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit in March 2005.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Betty Joe Grimm; a sister, Evelyn Boone of Chanute, Kan.; a son, Stephen Grimm of Lee’s Summit; two daughters, Robin Beard of Lee’s Summit and Debra Corum of Raytown, Mo.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at Lee’s Summit Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to help hurricane Katrina victims through a local United Methodist Church UMCOR program. Arrangements are by Langsford Funeral Home of Lee’s Summit. Bentonville Daire Kathleen Jones Daire Kathleen Jones, 55, of Bentonville, Ark., died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at her home. Arrangements are pending with Stockdale Funeral Services of Rogers, Ark.

Rogers Paulette Colene Olsen

Paulette Colene Olsen, 49, of Rogers, Ark., died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at a local nursing home. She was born Jan. 10, 1956, in Missouri.

She enjoyed fishing, being outdoors and gardening.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis B. Olsen; a son, Matthew Olsen of Rogers; two daughters, Crystal Moses and Amber Henington, both of Gravette, Ark.; her mother, Dorothy Elger of Huntsville, Ark.; a brother, Justin Kelly McNutt; three sisters, Karma Denise Ellington, Fawnna Welkley and Lisa Dawn Meadors; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Cremation arrangements are by Rollins Funeral Home of Rogers. Alex Pillstrom

Doyle Franklin Jones

Doyle Franklin Jones, 75, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, in Siloam Springs, Ark. He was born April 15, 1930, in Union, Ark., to Wiley Newton Jones and Ora Edna Cochran Jones.

He marriage Lena Pearl Gillis on June 30, 1950, in Kansas City, Kan. He attended Calvary Bible College in Kansas City, Mo. He was a pastor of the Howe-Savoy Bible Church. He was a decorated Korean War veteran. While serving in the U.S. Army in Korea, he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife, Lena Pearl Jones; two sons, James Doyle Jones of Nantuckett, Mass., and John Wiley Jones of Siloam Springs; two daughters, Lena Faye Ryherd of Harrisonville, Mo., and Jacquelyn Louise Williams of Lampe, Mo.; three brothers, Aubrey Newton Jones of Kansas City, Kan., Paul Vernon Jones of Dearborn, Mo., and Ermal Rayvan Jones of Kingsville, Mo.; a sister, Nina Faye Hensley of Fort Worth, Texas; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs, with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Chapel in Siloam Springs with the Rev. Richard Green and Dr. A. P. Vohs.

Burial will be at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Ark.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Rosetta ‘Christine’ Yelton

Rosetta "Christine" Yelton

Rosetta "Christine" Yelton, 85, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Ark. She was born June 27, 1920, in Riverton, Kan., to James Porter Christy and Louisa Jane Powell Christy.

She moved to Siloam Springs in 1992 from El Dorado, Kan. She was a retired dental assistant and a member of the First Baptist Church in Siloam Springs.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Clifton F. Healy, in 1991; and Wilbur E. Yelton, in 2004; and eight siblings.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, R. LaVaun Thomas and Dr. Duane A. Thomas of Siloam Springs; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clifton H. Healy and Frances Healy of Wichita, Kan., and retired U.S. Air Force Reserve Lt. Col. Roger F. Healy and Marla Healy of Parker, Colo.; a sister, Bessie Lorene Moore of Loveland, Colo., a brother, James William "Bill" Christy of Bullhead City, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Wasson Funeral Home of Siloam Springs. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at the First Baptist Church in Siloam Springs with Dr. Steve Abbott. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Sunset Lawns Cemetery in El Dorado, Kan., with the Rev. Ron Jones. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 356, Siloam Springs, AR 72761; or to Central Baptist Church, 7421 S. W. Church Road, Augusta, KS 67010.

William Alden Cook

William Alden Cook, 89, of Springdale, Ark., died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Ark. He was born April 19, 1916, in Mena, Ark., to William Oscar Cook and Tina Lee Nichols Cook.

He moved to this area 19 years ago from Grants Pass, Ore. He was a barber all his adult life. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Ester Cosand Cook; two stepsons, Jerry Walls of Klamoth Falls, Ore., and Kenny Walls of Las Vegas, Nev.; two nieces, Suzanne Cosand Moulton of Rogers, Ark., and Donora Hughes of Jefferson, Ore.; and a nephew, Larry Cosand of West Hollywood, Calif.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Rollins Funeral Home of Rogers, Ark.

Graveside funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at the Hawthorne Memorial Gardens in Grants Pass, Ore., with arrangements by Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home of Grants Pass.

George Marvin Greer

George Marvin Greer, 78, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, died Sunday, September 11, 2005, at his residence, in the presence of his family. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee, to Dewey Raymond Greer, Sr. and Leila Catherine Smith Greer on June 28, 1927. At birth he was taken by his grandmother Bessie Claire Fitzwater Smith for early rearing. He graduated from Treadwell High School in Memphis, graduated from Principia College, with a degree in Economics and Business Administration. Mr. Greer did graduate studies at the Memphis Art Academy and was a certified property manager. Mr. Greer was involved in Boy Scouts for over thirty years.

He served as a sergeant in the Army 1253 rd Combat Engineers in Europe during World War II. At the request of the commanding base officer and the post chaplain, he volunteered as assistant chaplain, serving his fellow soldiers as well as German Prisoners of War. During his service he coached both volleyball and basketball and played volleyball, representing his base and touring parts of Europe.

Mr. Greer’s church activities included eighteen years as a Sunday School student and over 60 years as an active church member. He held church offices and taught teenage Sunday School for thirty-five years. He studied the Bible in group studies and college courses. After active duty in WW II he served for eleven years as a Christian Science Minister to the armed services at Millington Base in Memphis, TN.

Mr. Greer’s great love was his four children: Gregory Milo Greer of Kirkwood, MO, Geoffrey Raymond Greer of Oak Park, IL, Leila Jeanne Greer Pike of Hailey, ID, Graham Wyllys Greer of Bella Vista, AR; his three grandsons, Dane Michael Greer, Scott William Pike and Morgan Gregory Pike; his sisters, Bonnie Greer Dawkins of Birmingham, AL, and Berta Greer Vance of Hattiesburg, MS.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2005, at the Cooper Memorial Chapel in Bella Vista, Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Church of Christ, Scientist, PO Box 102, Gravette, AR 72726.

Arrangements are by Nelson-Berna Funeral Home and Crematory of Fayetteville.
