Carol Jean Akright
Carol Jean Akright, 63, of Bella Vista, Ark., died June 5, 2005, at her home in Bella Vista. She was born March 27, 1942, in Kiel, Wis., to Daniel Dhein and Mildred Schnieder Dhein.
She was born and raised in Kiel. She married Walter Akright on June 15, 1966, in San Diego. The couple lived in Honolulu, Hawaii; East Dubuque, Ill.; and Overland Park, Kan. She was employed as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration for more than 20 years. She and her husband retired and moved to Bella Vista in August 1998. She was a member of the Bella Vista Community Church and the Red Hat Society. She was an avid golfer.
She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Dhein.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Akright; a son, Jerry Akright of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Lori Seeling of Kansas City, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Deborah Demirovic and her husband Ibro Demirovic of Hershey, Pa.; her mother, Mildred Dhein of Kiel, Wis.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Thomas Dhein and Kay Dhein, and James Dhein and Barbara Dhein, all of Kiel, and John Dhein of Appleton, Wis.; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Janice Fogeltanz and Richard Fogeltanz of Two Rivers, Wis., Nancy Wriedt and Roger Wriedt, and Sandra Spradau, all of Madison, Wis., Elizabeth Scharanbroch of Kiel and Margie Jones and Kevin Jones of Sheboygan, Wis.; a grandchild, Gabriella Demirovic; and 20 nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held June 10 at the Bella Vista Community Church with the Rev. Richard Lindman.

Harold L. Askew
Harold L. Askew, 100, of Bella Vista, Ark., formerly of Bentonville, Ark., died June 6, 2005, at Concordia Care Center in Bella Vista. He was born April 21, 1905, in Lincolnshire, England.
He moved with his family to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, at the age of 6, then moved to California as a teenager. He spent much of his life in San Pedro, Calif., where he operated a building construction business until his retirement in 1989 at the age of 84. He moved to northwest Arkansas in 1989.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Askew, to whom he was married for more than 50 years. He married Viola Venters of Cave Springs, Ark., in June 1989, and she preceded him in death in March 2002.
He was a Christian Scientist and in later years attended the Abundant Life Church in Bella Vista. He was active in the Kiwanis Club, the Civitan Club and the Elks Club in California. He served on the board of The Salvation Army. He enjoyed horses; tennis; and the arts, especially opera, ballet and music.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Forbes of New Auburn, Wis.; two stepsons, Wally Venters of Bentonville, Ark., and Jerry Venters of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held June 12 at the Abundant Life Ministries in Bentonville, Ark., with the Rev. Chuck Worth.
Arrangements were by Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Bentonville.
Wanda Belle Calhoun
Wanda Belle Calhoun, 86, of Neosho, Mo., died June 5, 2005, at Medicalodge of Neosho. She was born May 12, 1919, in Madison County, Ark., to Jess Easley and Gladys Irene Jordan Easley.
She married Tommy H. Calhoun on April 2, 1937, in Wesley, Ark. She was a homemaker. She worked for Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa, Okla., for a few years during World War II and later retired from St. John's Hospital in Tulsa after 17 years in the dietary department. After her retirement in 1979, she and her husband moved to Elkins, Ark., and later to the Goodman and Neosho, Mo., area.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Tommy H. Calhoun, on March 5, 2005; a brother, Carl Easley; and two infant sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy O'Shea and Doris Morris, both of Neosho, Mo.; three sons, Tommy Dean Calhoun of Broken Arrow, Okla., Loy Ellis Calhoun of Sand Springs, Okla., and Eddie Charles Calhoun of Bella Vista, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held June 10 at the Brannon Mountain Community Church east of Fayetteville, Ark., with the Rev. Ray Shackleford, the Rev. Rex Robertson, the Rev. Eddie Calhoun and the Rev. Jason Calhoun.
Burial was at the Brannon Mountain Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jason Calhoun, Chad Morris, Trevis Calhoun, George Dean Calhoun, Sumner Calhoun and Bart O'Shea.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, in care of Ozark Funeral Home of Anderson, Mo.
Earling 'Ed' Edwin Dumler
Earling "Ed" Edwin Dumler, 87, of Bella Vista, Ark., died June 5, 2005, at Concordia Care Center in Bella Vista. He was born Jan. 30, 1918, in Dodge City, Kan., to Jacob B. Dumler and Anna Elizabeth Siefried Dumler.
He was a member of the Bella Vista United Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anitanne Dumler; a son, Thomas Edwin Dumler; four sisters; and six brothers.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence A. Dumler and Elaine Dumler of Westminster, Colo.; a daughter, Susan A. Schaefer of Bella Vista; seven grandchildren, David A. Schaefer, Brandon Dumler, Dustin Dumler, Matthew Dumler, Jason Dumler, Byron Dumler and Travis Dumler; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held June 9 at the United Lutheran Church with Pastor Fred Nelson and Paul Funk.
Burial was at the Bella Vista Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Dodge City, Kan.
Arrangements were by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.

Ronnie Fjelsted
He lived in the area all his life and graduated from Bentonville (Ark.) High School.
He worked with the technical theater in high school. He was a scuba diver. He enjoyed playing soccer, playing the drums, paintballing, fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Danna Kaye Fjelsted, in 2004; and his paternal grandfather, Orlen S. Fjelsted.
Survivors include his father, Robert Fjelsted of Bella Vista; a sister and brother-in-law, Lisa Ponthieux and Daniel Ponthieux of Bella Vista; and his paternal grandmother, Virginia Fjelsted of St. Paul, Minn., and his maternal grandparents, Ron Wardlaw and Twyla Wardlaw of Jane, Mo.
Funeral services were held June 11 at the Sisco Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Jim Parsons.
Burial was at the Wardlaw Cemetery in the Brightwater community, Ark.
Raymond Albert Gilman
Raymond Albert Gilman, 79, of Bella Vista, Ark., died June 6, 2005, at Northwest Medical Center of Benton County in Bentonville, Ark. He was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Providence, R.I., to Albert Gilman and Aline Malegue Gilman.
He was raised and educated in Rhode Island. He graduated from Bryant College in Providence with a degree in accounting and from Syracuse University in New York with a degree in business administration. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Gilman; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Kathleen Sneckenberg and William Sneckenberg, Michelle Gilman, and Beth Teerlink and David Teerlink, all of Chicago, and Barbara Gilman of Folsom, Calif.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Francis Gilman and Ellen Gilman of Spring Hill, Fla., and Henry Gilman and Kay Gilman of Winter Haven, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth Carey and James Carey of Wickford, R.I.; and two grandchildren, Christine Sneckenberg and Caroline Sneckenberg.
A Mass of resurrection was celebrated June 10 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Bella Vista with the Rev. Father Andrew Smith.
