Bonnie Walker
Bonnie E. Walker, 77, of Pea Ridge, Arkansas departed this life Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Circle of Life Hospice House in Springdale, Arkansas. She was born December 9, 1934 in Arkansas the daughter of L. Dottie and David A. Walker.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Dorothy Pruitt and Mary Townsend.
Bonnie is survived by three brothers, C.H. Walker and his wife, Clois, of Bentonville, Onnie Walker and his wife, Sue, of Pea Ridge, and J.D. Walker and his wife, Diane, of Rogers; three sisters, Glenna Thompson of Visalia, California, Reba Windle and her husband, Virgil, of Smithville, Missouri, and Shirley Womack and her husband, Bill, of Bentonville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 17, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Eastside Assembly of God Church located on Hwy 72 or 9908 Spring Valley Road in Bentonville.
Graveside service will be Monday, March 19, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Hill Cemetery north of Hector, Arkansas. If inclement weather exist, the service will be moved to Zion Hill Church next to the cemetery.
James Stewart
Dr. James “Mac” McDonald Stewart, 70, of Bella Vista, Arkansas died Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at his home. He was born September 22, 1941 in Tennessee the son of Pauline Gertrude and Vivian Stewart.
He was an internationally known scientist for Germplasm of Cotton. He made numerous discoveries with his years of research from over 15 years with the University of Tennessee and over 30 years of research at the University of Arkansas.
He received his PHD from Oklahoma State University. He loved his family very much. He taught dance for many years, and he had a love for Irish music. He played the Hammer Dulcimer for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Stewart, of the home; three sons, Jason Stewart and his wife, Jackie, of Maryville, Tennessee, Calon Stewart of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Gabe Stewart and his wife, Michaela, of Rogers, Arkansas; one daughter, Heather Stewart Stuppy and her husband, Jim, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; numerous siblings; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14 at Faith Life Fellowship of Bentonville. Interment will be at Bella Vista Cemetery.
Garth Myers
Garth C. Myers of Bella Vista passed away on March 12, 2012.
He was born on Feb. 10, 1931 in North Hollywood, California; the son of Thomas & Mildred Myers and was raised in Southern California.
He attended both Brigham Young University and Valley College and then enlisted in the US Air Force at the outbreak of the Korean War. While serving in England he met and married the love of his life Doreen Witt and they had their 60th anniversary in March 2011.
Following discharge from the military he worked for over 25 years for Equifax Inc. managing offices in Las Vegas, Nev. San Bernardino, Ca., La Habra,Ca. and Santa Ana.Ca. He retired as a District Claims Mgr. and later took up a second career as a Senior Account Agent for the Allstate Insurance company; retiring from that company in 12/94. He and Doreen were active in the So. Cal. Boating scene and his boat was chosen to accompany the “Star of India” in San Diego, Ca. on its annual sea passage. Their boat was also one of six chosen to escort the “Tall Ships” in San Diego Harbor and later escorted the “Nina” a replica historical ship into San Diego Bay. They moved to Bella Vista in 2004 and both were active in supporting the Bella Vista Animal Shelter and Crime Watch.
Garth was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Thomas Curtis.
He is survived by his wife Doreen, daughter Michelle of Bella Vista, son Steven of Cotopaxi, Colorado, a sister Carol Warner and her husband Fred of Banning, Ca., 3 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren of Loma Linda and San Bernardino, Ca.
There will be no services at his request. Memorials may be made to the Bella Vista Animal Shelter.
Larry Cox, Sr.
Larry Dean Cox Sr., 64, died Monday, March 12 at his home. He was born September 4, 1947 in Kansas.
He is survived by his wife, Lou; one son, Klebe Cox; one daughter, Carrie Campbell, and many family members.
Memorials may be made to Lou Cox at Bancorp South.
Gardner Taylor
Gardner Roosevelt Taylor, 76, of Springtown, Arkansas died Monday, March 12, 2012 at his home. He was born April 27, 1935 in Lehigh, Oklahoma.
He is survived by many family members.
Services will be announced later by his family.
Eugene Shaver
Eugene Lee Shaver, 80, of Bella Vista, Arkansas died July 2, 2012 at Circle of Life Hospice House in Bentonville, Arkansas. He was born July 6, 1931 in South Dakota the son of Francis Morris and Arthur Shaver.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a past member of the VFW. After his service in the army, he worked for several newspapers in South Dakota and Minnesota until he started teaching in 1966 at Aberdeen High School. He was a teacher until 1983. He was also a member of United Lutheran Church of Bella Vista.
He had lived in the Northwest Arkansas area for over 16 years after moving from South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Gene is survived by his wife, JoAnn Shaver, of the home, whom he married May 24, 1964; two sons, Scott Shaver and his wife, Diane, of Hawaii and Nathan Shaver of Bentonville, Arkansas; one daughter, Tammy Ford and her husband, Alan, of South Dakota; two brothers, Keith Shaver and his wife, Vivian, of South Dakota and Ken Shaver of Texas; two sisters, Ruth Bosco and her husband, Joe, of Chicago, Illinois and Janice Hoyer and her husband, Virgil, of Texas; and seven grandchildren.
No services are planned at this time. Memorials may be sent to United Lutheran Church of Bella Vista or Circle of Life Hospice House in Bentonville.
Dennis Berk
Dennis K. Berk passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012 at the Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville, AR. Services for Dennis will be held on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, AR. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Dennis was born to Jason and Fern (Roberts) Berk in Rockford, IA on July 8, 1936. His family moved to the Hampton, IA area where they farmed southwest of town. After graduating from high school, he attended Iowa State University. He was united in marriage to Lynda Wright in Des Moines, IA on June 4, 1961. In the mid 1960’s, he and his father started a construction company, which he operated until the late 1980’s; however, he continued contracting until his retirement. Dennis and his wife Lynda retired to Bella Vista, AR where they could be near their children. He enjoyed recreational activities like fishing, hunting and golfing.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lynda Berk, of Bella Vista, AR; two sons, Dennis (Laurie) Berk in Bentonville, AR and Eric Berk in Bella Vista, AR; one brother, Doug (Mary) Berk in Glendale, AZ; two sisters, Mary (Bill) Phelon in Orinda, CA and Phyllis (Gene) Carse in Fort Dodge, IA; five grandchildren, David, Michael, Evan, Brittany, and Paige Berk; and one great-grandchild, Janice Berk. His parents, Jason and Fern in Hampton, IA and two brothers preceded him in death, John Berk in Hampton, IA and Jim Berk in Denver, CO.
