Robert Edward Lee Massengale
Robert Edward Lee Massengale, 92, of Bella Vista, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at Northwest Medical Center of Benton County in Bentonville. He was born Feb. 23, 1911, in Mayhew, Okla., to Jink Lee and Minerva Ann Duncan Massengale.
He taught vocational agriculture for four years in Grant, Okla., and for 30 years in Hugo, Okla. He retired in 1973 and moved to Bella Vista from Hugo.
He was a Rotarian for 50 years and served as Rotary president one year. He was a member of the Oklahoma Retired Educators Association.
He was a charter elder of Bella Vista Church of Christ, and served in that capacity for 20 years.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Martha Kay Massengale; five brothers, Dillard Massengale, Clarence Massengale, Rex Massengale, Lawrence Massengale, Joe Massengale; and two sisters, Helen Massengale and Nora Vandergriff.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Massengale; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Myrna Massengale of Fort Myers, Fla.; a daughter, Lea Ann Sims of Texarkana, Texas; a sister, Nathalia Elmquist of Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandchildren, a great-grandson, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at Bella Vista Church of Christ. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at Bella Vista Church of Christ. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hugo, Okla.
Arrangements were by Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.

George B. McKee III
George B. McKee III, 70, of Bella Vista, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at his home. He was born Oct. 5, 1932, in San Jose, Calif., to George B. II and Genevieve Nicora McKee.
He was a member of BLE. He enjoyed fly fishing and bonsai plants.
Survivors include a daughter, Kelly McKee of Bella Vista; a son, Blake McKee of Fayetteville; and a grandson.
Visitation was from 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Benton County Funeral Home of Bentonville. Graveside funeral services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville, with Chap. Maurice Roberts officiating. Military honors were provided by Bella Vista Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9063.

Merlin O'Brien
Merlin O'Brien, 76, of Bella Vista, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at his home. He was born Jan. 6, 1927, in Dalhart, Texas, to Fred Dempsey and Effie Laura Maxwell O'Brien.
He and his wife owned and operated the A&W Restaurant in McPherson, Kan. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Church of Christ in Bentonville.
The couple moved to Bella Vista in 1986 from McPherson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna O'Brien, on June 1, 2003. The couple was married Jan. 18, 1948.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Edna Mae O'Brien.
Graveside funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Bentonville Cemetery in Bentonville, with Dean Bryce officiating. Military honors were provided by Rogers American Legion.

Jewell Bernice 'Bennie' Reynolds
Jewell Bernice "Bennie" Reynolds, 86, of Bartlesville, Okla., and a recent resident of Innisfree Retirement Center of Rogers, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, in Bartlesville. She was born April 19, 1917, in Maud, Okla., to William and Bertha Hart Fulton.
She married Gerald J.L. Reynolds in 1936.
She was a member of the Women's Nine-Hole Golf Association; Order of the Eastern Star of Bentonville, Chapter 295; and Bentonville First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed golfing, fishing, knitting and painting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Reynolds, on Sept. 25, 2002; and a daughter, Nancy Diane Reynolds.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Bev Reynolds of Centralia, Mo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Karan and Joe Javine of Barnsdall, Okla.; a brother, William Hart Fulton of Amarillo, Texas; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A service of remembrance was at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at Bentonville First United Methodist Church with Dennis Spence and Ben Hines officiating.

Mary Ann Wither
Mary Ann Wither, 85, of Naugatuck, Conn., died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at Northwest Medical Center of Benton County in Bentonville, while visiting her daughter in Bella Vista. She was born Sept. 16, 1917, in Naugatuck, Conn., to Michael and Mary Fogle Dorge.
Survivors include a son, Edward Wither of Naugatuck, Conn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Maryann W. and James Sweeney of Bella Vista; a granddaughter Joanna Moore and her husband, Steve; and a great-granddaughter, Savannah Moore.
No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are by Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.

Verna E. Carlton
Verna E. Carlton, 85, of Gravette, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at Gravette Medical Center Hospital. She was born Sept. 20, 1917, in Limestone, to William "Billy" and Susie E. Curtis Davis.
She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Thomas Carlton; four brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include three sons, Lytle Carlton of Hiwasse, Davis Carlton of Grove, Okla., and Ron Carlton of Gravette; a brother, Russell Davis of Kansas City, Mo.; three sisters, Gracie Nelson of El Paso, Texas, Alpha Stone of Fort Douglas, and Imalee Cowick of Gravette; six grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Callison-Lough Funeral Home of Gravette. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at Church of Christ in Gravette. Burial was at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, west of Hiwasse.
