Charles Thurston
Charles Thurston, 76, of Rogers, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in a Rogers nursing home. He was born May 29, 1926, in Bartlesville, Okla., the son of Charles Alfred and Velma Faith Weatherman Thurston.
He was a self-employed carpenter and worked for Daisy Manufacturing. He was a 32nd degree Mason and served in the U.S. Army. He moved to Hindsville in 1948 from Bartlesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include an adopted daughter, Noelle Paulette of Austin, Texas; a long-time friend and caregiver, Oveda Feliks of Rogers; four brothers, Boyd Thurston of Fort Ord, Calif., Tillman Thurston of Pontiac, Ill., Keith Baker of Cleveland, Okla., and Clarence Thurston of Bloomington, Ill.; four sisters, Elsie Thurston of Dallas, Opal Van and Mary Campbell, both of Bartlesville, Okla., and Lynn Van Name of Castile, N.Y.; one granddaughter, Peyton Paulette; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Benton County Funeral Home in Rogers. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Benton County Funeral Home. Burial will be in War Eagle Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by the Bella Vista Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9063 Honor Guard.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Hospital care of the the funeral home.
James E. Williamson
James E. Williamson, 74, of Bella Vista, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at Bates Medical Center in Bentonville. He was born Oct. 28, 1928, in Simpson County, Miss., to Marvin and Auleen Crawford Williamson.
He moved to Bella Vista from Derby, Kan., in 1994.
After his military career he was employed by Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, Kan., and retired after 20 years of service. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9063 of Bella Vista.
He graduated from Columbia College in 1977, and received a bachelor of arts degree in business administration.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy M. Williamson; five sons, Ronald Aunquoe of Wichita, Kan., Bill Anquoe of Hutchinson, Kan., Jonathan Aunquoe and wife Cecile, Clayton E. Williamson and wife Angela, and James P. Williamson, all of Bella Vista; a daughter and son-in-law, Meredith and Robert Raby of Bella Vista; a brother, Walker Williamson of Benton, Miss.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation was from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, at Judson American Baptist Church in Bella Vista. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec, 2, at Judson American Baptist Church of Bella Vista with the Rev. Ed Baxter and the Rev. Don Moor officiating. Burial was in Bella Vista Cemetery with full military honors being provided by the VFW Post 9063 Honor Guard of Bella Vista.
Memorials may be made to Judson American Baptist Church, 1702 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, Ark. (72715); or to the Bella Vista Veteran's Wall of Honor, in care of VFW Post 9063, 103 Veterans Way, Bella Vista, Ark. (72712).
Funeral arrangements are by Stockdale Funeral Services of Rogers.
Orbra Dean Young
Orbra Dean Young, 68, of Bella Vista, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at his home. He was born Sept. 3, 1934, in Oklahoma, to Orbra and Lucille Young.
He graduated in 1957 with a bachelor of science degree from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla. After graduation he served in the U.S. Army for four years.
After being discharged, he spent one year on his post-graduate work in education. In 1962 he accepted a job at Rexall Drug in Odessa, Texas, which later turned in to a petro-chemical company. He retired in 1998, after 36 years on the job.
He was a member of Bella Vista Christian Church. He enjoyed playing golf.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Ann Varnell Young, whom he married March 25, 1966; a son, Gary Young of Green ville, Texas; two daughters, Deana Gregory of Bentonville, and Glenda Crawford of Odessa, Texas; two stepsons, David Womack and Richard Womack, both of Odessa; a brother, Ray Young, of Odessa Texas; and two sisters, Wanda Clifton of Norman, Okla., and Helen Crawford of Roff, Okla.; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, at Bella Vista Funeral Home. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at Bella Vista Christian Church, 103 Riordan Road, Bella Vista with the Rev. Dr. Richard Hogan officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospice, 1001 W. Walnut St., Rogers, Ark. (72756).
Arrangements are by Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.
Gladys L. Collins
Gladys L. Collins, 99, of Gentry, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at her home. She was born July 20, 1902, in Harmon, to Bert and Nora Mount Lively.
She was a lifetime resident of the area. She graduated from University High School in Fayetteville.
She married Carl Collins on June 30, 1936. She attended the University of Arkansas and graduated from John Brown University in 1955 with a bachelor of science in elementary education.
She taught school for 35 years, then retired and worked as a substitute teacher. She was a member of the National Retired Teachers Association and Felker E.H. Club, and was a lifetime member of the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Gentry and Elizabeth Wasson Sunday school class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Collins, on Feb. 25, 1978.
Survivors include a sister, Grace Howell of Prairie Grove; a niece, Cleo Murney of Wichita, Kan.; three cousins, Ladene Pryor of Eugene, Ore., Joe Lasater of Pea Ridge and Jene Lasater of Bella Vista.
Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Wasson Memorial Chapel in Siloam Springs with the Rev. Carolyn Doering officiating. Burial was at Elm Springs Cemetery in Elm Springs, with arrangements by Wasson Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.
Christine Cosgrove Febro
Christine Cosgrove Febro, 96, of Fort Smith, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, in Fort Smith. She was born Feb. 11, 1905, in Sparta, Ill., to John and Mary Kuhnert Cosgrove.
She had been a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church since 1930, and served as director of the adult Sunday school, teacher of the Mary-Martha Sunday school class and director of the Concord Association of W.M.U. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Spiro Chapter No. 144; the National Council of State Garden Clubs; and the National Federation of Music Clubs.
She was a past president of the Fort Smith Garden Club, Mill Creek Elementary School PTA and Van Buren/Fort Smith Council of Garden Clubs. She was a member of the city Federation of Women's Clubs.
She had served on the Sparks Hospital Women's Board and as a sponsor for the Delta Alpha Delta Sorority from 1945 to 1949.
Survivors include a daughter, Gloria Febro Grilk of Bella Vista; three grandchildren, Cornelia Schardt, Cynthia Engstrom and Karen Noorani; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at the Edwards Funeral Home chapel in Fort Smith. Burial was at Old Bokoshe Cemetery in Bokoshe, Okla.
Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Women's Missionary Endowment, in care of the Immanuel Baptist Church, 2201 S. Dallas, Fort Smith, Ark. (72901); or to the Sparks Development Foundation, Nursing Scholarships, P.O. Box 17006, Fort Smith, Ark. (72902).
Dixie Dean McColl
Dixie Dean McColl, 80, of Bentonville, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Bates Medical Center in Bentonville.
She was instrumental in developing and establishing Concordia Care Center for Cooper Communities Inc. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bentonville, P.E.O. Chapter CL of Bentonville, and a volunteer for Helping Hands and Sunshine School.
She enjoyed reading, current events, Democratic politics and her three cats.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Gerald Dean McColl; a daughter, Claudia Ann McColl; three brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Leonard of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Lou Ann Mundell of Linneus, Mo.; two grandchildren, Laura Ann Leonard of Carbondale, Ill., and Michael Leonard of Lawrence, Kan.; three nieces, two nephews; and a cousin.
Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at Stockdale Funeral Services of Bentonville. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Gordon Garlington III officiating. Burial was at Bentonville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
