Alfred 'Al' Johns
Alfred "Al" Johns, 92, of Bella Vista, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at Bates Medical Center in Bentonville. He was born Sept. 2, 1909, in Lorton, Neb., to Gustav and Johanna Johns.
He moved to Omaha, Neb., in 1928. He graduated from American College, then was employed in the accounting department of Omaha Printing Co. until he retired in 1975. He was a member of the company's board of directors and served as vice president and treasurer.
Upon retirement, he and his wife, Helen, moved to Bella Vista, where he was a member of Bella Vista Community Church, the Nebraska Club, the Men's 18-Hole Golf Association and several bowling leagues.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at Bella Vista Community Church.

William F. Kraft Sr.
William F. Kraft Sr., 90, of Kenosha, Wis., formerly of Bella Vista and Bentonville, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at Grand Prairie Health and Rehabilitation Center in Kenosha. He was born Feb. 15, 1912, in Kenosha to William C. and Edith Badtke Kraft.
He attended schools in Kenosha. He and his brother, Harry, were the pitcher and catcher in the 1934 National Softball Championships in Kenosha.
He married Dorothy Hanson in September 1939 in Kenosha. He entered the U.S. Army on June 17, 1943, and was discharged on Dec. 7, 1945. He received the Victory Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 14 Bronze Battle Stars, three Overseas Service Bars and the Good Conduct Medal.
He lived in Kenosha until 1960, when he moved to Algona, Iowa. He was employed at Simmons Corp., and later at Snap-On Tools as a time study engineer, retiring in 1981.
In 1983 he moved to Bella Vista, then later lived in Bentonville. In September 2001, he returned to Kenosha.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Kraft, on May 12, 2001; a brother, Harry Kraft; and a sister, Helen Lambrecht.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, William F. Jr. and Margaret Kraft of Somers, Wis., and Bradford D. and Debbie Kraft of Kansas City, Kan.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation was from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, April 2, at Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home of Kenosha. Funeral services were at noon Tuesday, April 2, at Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home.
Marvin F. Mann
Marvin F. Mann, 83, of Bella Vista, and formerly of Lincoln, Neb., died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, in Bella Vista. He was born Jan. 9, 1919, in Winside, Neb., to Oscar and Alma Peperkorn Mann.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gwendolyn Mann, on April 22, 1998. The couple was married on June 30, 1946.
He married Monna Buckman on Feb. 14, 2000.
He was a maintenance engineer for Gooch Milling and Elevator from 1946 to 1979. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Naval Reserve and the Merchant Marines.
He was a member of American Legion Post 3 in Lincoln, and American Legion Post 341 in Bella Vista. He was a member of United Lutheran Church of Bella Vista and a former member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Lincoln.
He was a lifetime member of the Nebraska PTA, and was active in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He received the Lamb Award, Silver Beaver Award and George Meany Award.
He was also preceded in death by a stepson, Joe.
Survivors include his wife, Monna V. Mann; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Barry B. and Laura Sue Mann of Bentonville, and Curtis K. Mann of Lincoln, Neb.; a daughter and son-in-law, Charri L. and Gary Richards of Cimarron, N.M.; three stepdaughters and two stepsons-in-law, Stephanie and Dock Dougherty of Playa del Rey, Calif., Martha and Stan Lyckman of Port Angeles, Wash., and Lisa Rozek of Walkertown, N.C.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Werner and Vera Mann of Winside, Neb., Fritz and Faye Mann of Wayne, Neb., and Victor and Reba Mann of Norfolk, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Darlene Barton of Lincoln; four grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at Grace ELCA Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Thomas J. Hallstrom and the Rev. Peter C. Jacobson officiating. Burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.

Marie Whitlock
Marie Whitlock, 90, of Bentonville, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rogers. She was born July 14, 1911, in Eufaula, Okla., to Bill and Ollie Rebecca Toon McMitchell.
She moved to the area in 1980 from Pomona, Calif. She was a homemaker and worked at Woolworth for 10 years.
She enjoyed quilting and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arvil Whitlock, in 1987.
Survivors include two sons, Frank Whitlock of Selma, Calif., and Dale Whitlock of Bentonville; two daughters, Ruby Howard of Centerton and Margie Smith of Springfield, Ore.; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Herbert Edward Winter Jr.
Herbert Edward "Eddie" Winter Jr., 80, of Washburn, Mo., died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale. He was born Oct. 24, 1921, in Bar Harbor, Maine, to Herbert Edward and Mary Edward Milliken Winter.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a gunner's mate 3rd class aboard the USS Brooklyn. After being honorably discharged in 1945, he moved to the Washburn area.
He was a self-employed painter. He was a life member of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades, and the Disabled American Veterans, and was a nondenominational church member, meeting in members' homes.
He trained cattle, stock and guard dogs for many years. He enjoyed gardening and reading.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Lucille Snow Winter, on March 24, 1983; and a brother, Robert R. Winter.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Kaye Learned of Washburn, Lynda Corinne Thompson of Eagle Rock, Mo., and Margaret Ellen Hackett of Seligman, Mo.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation was from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, March 29, at Sisco Funeral Home of Pea Ridge. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 30, in the Sisco Funeral Home chapel with Ken Lerwick and John Culver officiating. Burial was at Antioch Cemetery in McDonald County, Mo., north of Pea Ridge, with full military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9063 of Bella Vista.
Robert Eugene Anderson
Robert Eugene Anderson, 72, of Bella Vista, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Bates Medical Center in Bentonville. He was born July 4, 1929, in Cambridge, Iowa, to Andrew and Irene Severeid Anderson.
He moved to Bella Vista in 1991 from Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was a member of Bella Vista Community Church, Elks Lodge and the Men's Golf Association.
He formerly provided weather statistics for The Weekly Vista.
He was preceded in death by a son, Eric Anderson.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Iris Anderson; a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Erminia Anderson of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, Laverne and Ruth Anderson of Fresno, Calif., and two grandchildren, Ariana Anderson and Eric Anderson, both of Santa Barbara.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Bella Vista Community Church with the Rev. David McKay officiating.
