Clarence Dirk Swalve
Clarence Dirk Swalve, 88, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Nov. 5, 2005, in Bella Vista. He was born Oct. 30, 1917, in Klemme, Iowa, to Dirk Swalve and Francis Behrends Swalve.
A memorial service was held Nov. 11 at the Bella Vista Presbyterian Church.
Cremation arrangements were by the Benton County Funeral Home of Rogers, Ark.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of the Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. Fourth St., Rogers, AR 72756.
Warren 'Dub' Young
Warren "Dub" Young, 70, of Lee's Summit, Mo., formerly of Bella Vista, Ark., died Nov. 6, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Home in Warrensburg, Mo. He was born Feb. 3, 1935.
He retired after 40 years of service with Kansas City Power and Light. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1963. He was a deacon, a trustee, a Royal Ambassador Leader and an active member of various churches, most recently Village Baptist Church in Bella Vista.
Survivors include his wife, Velma Young; five daughters, Beverly Haley, Tina Arney, Linda Fletcher, Carol Brady and Anne Jendrzey; a brother, Richard "Dick" Young; and seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Reed, Blake Arney, Ryan Haley, O'Hara Haley, Connor Arney, Elizabeth Jendrzey and Rachel Jendrzey.
A memorial service was held Nov. 9 at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Lee's Summit.
Arrangements were by New Salem Funeral Home and Cemetery of Independence, Mo.
Mary E. Brown
Mary E. Brown, 85, of Pea Ridge, Ark., died Dec. 8, 2005, at her home. She was born Dec. 31, 1919, in Bentonville, Ark., the daughter of Olin Andrew Jackson and Edith Matkins Jackson.
She was a Baptist. She was a schoolteacher in Bentonville. Later she and her husband went to California, where she retired in 1987. In 1988 she moved back to northwest Arkansas.
She enjoyed gardening, bird-watching, traveling, and all types of needlework.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Brown; and one sister, Angie Staats.
Survivors include one brother, Bedford Jackson of Ozark, Mo.; two nieces, Jo Ann Staats of Bentonville, Ark., and Debbie Speer of Seligman, Mo.; one great-niece, Amanda Breeden of Bella Vista, Ark.; one great-nephew, Wayne Oberg of Seligman, Mo.; three great-great nieces, Samantha Breeden of Bella Vista, Stacie Breeden of Bella Vista and Kristal Oberg of Pea Ridge, Ark.
A graveside service was held Dec. 12 at Rogers Cemetery in Rogers with the Rev. John Dean. Special music was provided by Stacie Breeden.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be made in honor of Mary E. Brown to Circle of Life Hospice, 610 East Emma Ave., Springdale, AR 72764.
Virginia DeVaney
Virginia DeVaney, 90, of Little Rock, Ark., formerly of Bella Vista, Ark., died Dec. 5, 2005. She was born Nov. 27, 1915, in Lincoln, Neb.
She was a retired nurse. She and her husband lived in Lincoln, Neb., until they retired, then moved to Bella Vista, Ark., in 1977. The couple moved to Little Rock seven years ago and were members of the Cathedral of St. Andrew. She and her husband lived at Pleasant Hills Retirement Center.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Dec. 9 at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Little Rock with Monsignor Marczuk.

Lloyd Earl Dickerson
Lloyd Earl Dickerson, 88, of Bentonville, Ark., died Dec. 7, 2005, in Fayetteville, Ark. He was born Oct. 30, 1917, in Union Township, Iowa, to Harvey Dickerson and Mattie Carpenter Dickerson.
He was a member of Garden Prairie Church in Madrid, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mona Dickerson; a son, Ronald; a daughter-in-law, Nancy; an infant daughter, Janet; four brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Pat Roe and Larry Roe of Bella Vista, Ark.; four grandchildren, Kurt Dickerson of Phoenix, Ariz., Denise Fowler of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Tracy Roe of Hampshire, Ill., and Tami Windel of Centerton, Ark.; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Joan Elizabeth Lockhart
Joan Elizabeth Lockhart, 70, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Dec. 4, 2005, at her home. She was born Nov. 25, 1935, in Evanston, Ill., to Robert Tilford Lockhart and Elizabeth Day Lockhart.
She retired from teaching in 1995 and moved to Bella Vista, where she was a member of the 9-Hole Women's Golf League, the 18-Hole Women's Golf League, the Bella Vista Women's Chorus, the Perfect Harmony Women's Barbershop Quartet, the Village Players, the Wisconsin Club, Crime Watch, the Bella Vista Welcome Club and the United Lutheran Church. She participated in church activities, held offices in organizations, performed community service and enjoyed singing, acting and golfing.
Survivors include a son, Raymond James Bennett of Lake Placid, N.Y.; three sisters, Helen Smiley of Bella Vista, Barbara Day Lockhart of North Salt Lake, Utah, and Roberta Sue Kurivial of Leesburg, Fla.; two nephews, Doug of Macomb, Ill., and Ted Kurivial and his wife Helen Kurivial of Dyer, Ind.; and her friend, Sylvia Lokken of Bella Vista.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the United Lutheran Church in Bella Vista.
Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory.
John D. McMaster
John D. McMaster, 86, of Bentonville, Ark., died Dec. 7, 2005, at his home. He was born Jan. 6, 1919, to Eberly Kost McMaster and Evelyn Molly Bequeath McMaster.
He married Bobbie Bowen on Feb. 27, 1996, in Miami, Okla. He was a member of St. Theodore's Episcopal Church in Bella Vista, Ark., and had attended the Beacon Baptist Church in Gravette, Ark., since 1996. He was a World War II veteran, serving as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army and leading troops at Normandy on D-Day.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne McMaster, in 1993.
Funeral services were held Dec. 10 at the Beacon Baptist Church in Gravette, Ark., with the Rev. Dan Fagala.
Burial was at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Hiwasse, Ark.
Pallbearers were Vernon Sammon, Paul Sammon, John McMaster Jr., John McMaster III, Jerry Bowen and Loyd Bennett.
Arrangements were by Callison-Lough Funeral Home of Gravette.
