William Murray
FARMINGTON -- William "Bill" Murray, 73, of Farmington died Oct. 15, 2002, at Prairie Grove. He was born March 15, 1929, in Farmington to William and Jossie J. Skinner Murray. He was an employee of Stark Brothers Nursery and was a member of the Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Fern Vanover Murray; four sons, Billy Joe Murray and Terry Murray, both of Prairie Grove, Larry Murray of Farmington and Gary Murray of Altus; two brothers, Everett Murray and Frank Murray, both of Lincoln; one sister, Ruby Owens of Lincoln; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Farmington Cemetery with the Rev. Alvin Reynolds officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville.
Verda L. Williams
FAYETTEVILLE -- Verda Logue Williams, 83, of Fayetteville died Oct. 16, 2002, at her home. She was born Nov. 18, 1918, in Madison County to Leonard and Edith Todd Logue. She enjoyed gardening and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Williams.
Survivors include two sons, David Williams of Ozark and Richard Williams of Fayetteville; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Beard's Funeral Chapel in Fayetteville with Dr. Larry Mitchell officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Washington Regional Hospice, 34 W. Colt Square, Drive 1, Fayetteville, 72703.
Kenneth T. Dotson
HUNTSVILLE -- Kenneth Taylor Dotson, 72, of Huntsville died Oct. 15, 2002, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born Jan. 8, 1930, in Wharton to Ewell and Vera Marie Taylor Dotson. He was an appliance repairman for Huntsville Appliance Center for more than 40 years. He was a member of Huntsville Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Loreda Viola Jones Dotson of the home; two sons, Dale Dotson and wife Vicki and Terry Dotson and wife Glenna, all of Huntsville; one daughter, Janice Bittick and husband Michael of Springdale; two brothers, Hugh Dotson of Tahlequah, Okla., and Kay Dotson of Seminole, Okla.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Brashears Funeral Home in Huntsville with the Rev. Paul Brewster and the Rev. Jim Spurlock officiating.
Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Johnson, Greg Taylor, Gary Dotson, Larry Dotson, Charles Gurley, Wendell Easterling, Sheldon Jones and Earl Lymar.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Linda D. Dyer
SHELBYVILLE, Ind. -- Linda D. Dyer, 55, of Shelbyville died Oct. 16, 2002, at her home. She was born June 4, 1947, at Shelbyville to Claude Smothers and Mary Elliott. She was employed as a bartender for Eagles Lodge 766. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary/Shelbyville and a charter member of the Eagles Auxiliary/Shelbyville.
Survivors include her father; one daughter, Kim Drindak of Springdale; one son, Greg Adams of Shelbyville; five brothers, Mike Smothers of Green sburg, Ind., Ronnie Smothers and Bobby Smothers, both of Shelbyville, Rickey Smothers of Manilla, Ind., and Scott Smothers of Shelbyville; six sisters, Judy Smith of Springdale, Faye Wilkerson of Shelbyville, Mae Dell Comstock of Green wood, Ind., Peggy Miner of Cape Coral, Fla., and Dolly Smothers and Christina Leffler, both of Shelbyville; four grandchildren.
Services will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service in Shelbyville with the Rev. Edwin Mohr officiating. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery in Shelby County, Ind. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Shelby County, 114 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, Ind. 46176.
Harold Wehrenberg
Harold R. Wehrenberg was born Nov. 14, 1914, in Loyal, Okla., to Emilie (Fressel) and Charles Wehrenberg. He passed away Dec. 15, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, Okla., at the age of 88 years after a long and valiant battle with bone marrow disease. He died as he lived with dignity.
He graduated from Loyal schools and attended the University of Oklahoma earning a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. He entered the U.S Army as a 2nd lieutenant and during World War II spent five years in active duty including 2 1/2 years in the European Theater, then transferred to active reserves. He was a graduate of the Army Command and Staff School, spending a total of 28 years in active reserves, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.
In 1948, he moved to Elk City, Okla., where he was a superintendent of construction on the Elk City Airport project. He built the original asphalt runway. Harold enjoyed the beauty of the plains of Western Oklahoma very much and he and his wife, Lou Etta settled there and established Harold's Ready Mix Concrete Co. in Elk City, Okla. He later established Concrete Incorporated with plants in Elk City, Sayre, Cordell and Clinton, Okla. He worked in the concrete business for 30 years.
He was past president of the Elk City Chamber of Commerce, the United Fund and the Oklahoma Ready Mix Concrete Association. Also was president of Elk City Kiwanis Club and past lieutenant governor of Division 17, of the Texas-Oklahoma District of Kiwanis International. He was a city commissioner in Elk City for 18 years and served as mayor of Elk City for two terms, from 1981-1985. He was a past member of the board of directors of the Oklahoma Political Action Committee and the board of directors of Elk City Community Hospital. He was a past action council member of National Federation of Independent Business. He was past chairman of Beckham County chapter of the American Red Cross; and Beckham County Local Board of National Emergency Food and Shelter program. He was a past instructor in AARP 55-Alive refresher driving course.
He was inducted into the Western Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1986. His wife, Lou Etta died in 1983 and he married Gloria Hefley in Tulsa in 1986. They lived in Elk City until their move to Tulsa in 1993.
He transferred his Kiwanis membership to Tulsa where he enjoyed helping with their many projects benefiting youth. He worked with the Miss Oklahoma Pageant and the Builders Club until his health started failing.
The Tulsa Kiwanis Club awarded him the John F. Hixon Award in 2000. Harold has been a man of vision and deep concern for youth and his fellow man and has helped set a course of hope for their future and success.
He was a charter member of Westview Boys Home in Hollis, Okla., started in 1956, and has been a board member since. He was a former elder and class teacher in the Church of Christ in Elk City and is now a member of the Park Plaza Church of Christ in Tulsa.
He has received many awards and plaques for exceptional leadership and devoted service. Even in failing health, he has tried to stay involved in Bible correspondence courses with students in Nigeria, Liberia and West Africa. He was a life member of the American Legion and the VFW. He filled all positions he held with dedication, integrity and responsibility. He loved his great American country.
He is survived by his wife Gloria of the home; one son, Steve Wehrenberg and wife Jennie of Farmington; grandsons, Steve Wehrenberg Jr., of Duncan, Okla., and Nathan Wehrenberg and wife, Amber of Elk City, Okla.; great-granddaughter, Taya; stepsons, David Hefley and wife Charleen of Olathe, Kan., Steven Hefley and Robert Hefley and wife Carla, all of Tulsa; four step-grandchildren, Darren Hefley, Jason Hefley, Briana Hefley and Afton Hefley; one sister, Sue Mooney of San Jose, Calif.; one brother, Albert Wehrenberg of Oklahoma City, Okla.; several nieces, nephews and many, many dear friends.
Harold set a fine example for all of us by leading a Godly Christian life, always with grace and dignity while celebrating his many blessings and finding joy in his family. Even as age and illness began to weigh on him heavily, he always said, "I'm just fine." His desire would be that memorials be made to Westview Boys Home, Hollis, Okla., or a charity of your choice.
Services will be Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 11 a.m. at Park Plaza Church of Christ with Mark Ellard officiating and Ed Mosier assisting.
Services in Elk City will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19 at the Whinery-Savage Chapel with Tom Harguess officiating.
Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service, Elk City.
Sotera Soza
ROGERS -- Sotera Mirales Soza, 69, of Rogers died Dec. 13, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rogers. She was born April 22, 1933, in Karnes City, Texas, to Ramon Mirales and Modesta Puente. She lived in the area for six years and retired after 30 years as a nurse's aide.
Survivors include four sons, Rudy Garcia of Oklahoma, Mike Soza, Roy Soza and Jessie Soza, all of Rogers; four daughters, Melinda RedBone of Oklahoma, Rosa Soza of Rogers, Elizabeth Hernandez of Rogers and Stephanie Hernandez of Oklahoma; three brothers, Ramon Mirales of Texas, Pilo Mirales of California and Acario Mirales of Ohio; two sisters, Tomasa Riogas of Texas, Juana Mirales of Florida; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Iglesia Bautista Nueva Esperanza Church in Lowell with Francisco Martinez officiating.
Burial will be in Rogers Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers.
