Donald Tibbits
Donald Fay Tibbits, 57, of Warrensburg, Mo., died Friday, March 9, 2001, at his home. He was a 1961 graduate of Cedarville High School, received bachelor of science and master's degrees from the University of Arkansas, did graduate work at Northeastern Oklahoma State University and University of Iowa and earned his doctor of philosophy in speech pathology from the University of Missouri. Tibbits taught high school, was a public speech therapist, graduate teaching assistant, assistant professor, coordinator of speech and hearing clinics, director, acting head and assistant to the dean for College of Education and Human Services at Central Missouri State University from 1991 to the present.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Warrensburg, the International Association for the Study of Child Language, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Council of Exceptional Children, Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Delta Kappa, Missouri Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Missouri Federation Council for Exceptional Children, faculty advisor at CMSU Sigma Phi Epsilon, past president of the Missouri Speech-Language-Hearing Association and past chair.
Tibbits wrote many articles and books, including an article on Reasoning as a Critical Thinking Skill and Language, Speech and Hearing Services in Schools. Two of his books were Language Disorders in Adolescents and Language Intervention, Beyond the Primary Grades. He did many presentations as professional workshops/in-services and member of many universities committees. He traveled to Finland to participate in forming the agreement for scientific and educational exchange of faculty and students between the University of Helsinki and CMSU in 1991.
He is survived by his mother, Clara Tibbits of Natural Dam; three sisters, Lula Grace Barnes of Cedarville, Zita Hala Worth of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Mary Anita Tibbits of Roland; and nine nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held March 14 at the Grandview Assembly of God in Natural Dam with Rev. C.A. Eversole officiating. Burial will be at Hall Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Dennis Tibbits, Matthew Moses, Josh Workman, Bobby Worth, Lloyd Tibbit and Steve Moses. Honorary pallbearers were Troy Goldman, Jimmy Brown, Wayne Goldman, Jack Reed and Mike Murphy.
Troy Flanagan
Troy Flanagan, 88, of Alma died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at a local nursing home. He was retired from Dixie Cup in Fort Smith.
Survivors include one daughters, Sheron Styron of Fredricksburg, Texas; two sons, Paul Franklin Flanagan of Rudy and Troy Gene Flanagan of Wilmington, N.C.; 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held March 12 at Dyer Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Lee Hackler, Bill Mitchell, Tommy Secrest, Gabriel and Michael Flanagan and Curtis Carney.
Jerry Jetton Jr.
Jerry Don Jetton Jr., 30, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at a local hospital. He was a subcontractor for Tom Wright Drywall in Fort Smith and a member of LADS No. 131 in Seattle, Wash.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Jetton; one daughter, Jasmine Jetton of the home; two sons, Jerry Don Jetton III and Cody Jetton, both of the home; his father, Jerry Don Jetton Sr.; two sisters, Robin Ellis of Tennessee and Donna Moore of Gig Harbor, Wash.; and one brother, Justin Jetton of Bremerton, Wash.
Funeral service was held March 9 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was at Forest Park Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Bill Johnson, Roger Ledbetter, Frank Ledbetter, Roger Beck, Dolan Kizer and Randy Sizemore.
Ferba Pursell
Ferba Pursell, 86, of Mountainburg died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at her home. She was a member of Bethel Methodist Church, homemaker and former co-owner of Pursell's Grocery.
Survivors include one son, John R. Pursell of North Little Rock; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held March 8 at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel. Burial was at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Butch Basham, John M., Kent, Gary and Bruce Pursell and Matt and Adam Coleman.
