Joe Mills
Joe C. Mills, 94, of Kibler died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at a local hospital. He was a retired self-employed carpenter, Army veteran of World War II and member of the Kibler Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jessie; one daughter, Shelba Lacey of Kibler; and one son, Anthony Mills of Kibler.
Graveside service was held April 9 at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
Lula Montgomery
Lula Edith Montgomery, 84, of Van Buren died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at a local hospital. She was a lifelong member of Kibler Baptist Church and lifelong resident of Kibler.
Survivors include two daughters, Lou Ellen Gisler of Sonora, Calif., and Rosemary Brown of Alma; two sons, Glen Cooksey of Van Buren and Thomas Neal Montgomery of Fort Smith; three sisters, Mary Jane Bromley of Van Buren, Betty Cook of El Monte, Calif., and Pat Laws of Lawrence, Kan.; four brothers, John, Burl and Leon Butler, all of Van Buren, and Gayle Butler of Temecula, Calif.; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held April 10 at Kibler Baptist Church. Burial was at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jerry Brown, Mark Arnold, Harold Oliver, Jimmy Gunn, Clifton Gunn and Leslie Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers were her brothers and deacons of Kibler Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kibler Baptist Church or Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints.
Percy Spears
Percy A. Spears, 84, of Mountainburg died Monday, April 9, 2001, at a local hospital. He was a member of Locke Freewill Baptist Church, Army veteran of World War II, retired carpenter, lifelong resident of the Locke Community and widower of Lila Spears.
Survivors include four daughters, Elaine Tash of Alma and Beverly Donaldson, Patricia Gregory and Linda Rowland, all of Mountainburg; two sons, Alvin Spears of Mountainburg and Rogers Spears of Mulberry; one brother, Arvel Spears of Alma; 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral service was held April 12 at Locke Freewill Baptist Church. Burial was at Locke Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were Orville Burrough, Dalton Williams, Jimmy Blain, Gene Evans and Glen Evans.
Mason Childers
Mason Lee Childers Sr., 51, of Van Buren died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at a local hospital. He was the chief of police for the City of Van Buren, an Army veteran and longtime resident of Van Buren. He was a member of Living World Baptist Church, Arkansas Municipal Police Association, Arkansas Chiefs of Police Association, 911 Board and Van Buren Rotary Club.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Childers; one daughter, Melinda Johnston of Van Buren; one son, Mason Childers Jr. of Van Buren; his mother, Alberta Loyd of Fort Smith; father, Jack Childers Sr. of Booneville; one sister, Sue Lowe of Fort Smith; four brothers, Larry Childers of Van Buren, Jack Childers Jr. of Kansas City, Mo., Robert Jones of Dora and Bill Jones Jr. of Fort Smith; and four grandchildren, Amber Johnston, Tyler Johnston, Katie Childers and Whitney Childers.
Funeral service was held April 6 at Living World Baptist Church. Burial was at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren. The Little Rock Police Department provided an honor guard at the cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Blount, Don Mullens, Alan Swaim, Stan Oldham, Todd Jewell, Teasie Harris and Paul Dunn. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Van Buren Police Department.
Memorial contributions may be made to Living Word Baptist Church building fund, c/o Citizens Bank and Trust Co., P.O. Box 469, Van Buren, Ark., 72956.
Louis Green
Louis Green, 81, of Van Buren died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at a local hospital. He was an Army veteran of World War II and retired custodian for the Fort Smith Public School System.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Tuck of Muldrow and Mary Jane Croff of Clarksville; four sons, J.C. Green and Bill Green, both of Dyer, Ginny Green of Fort Smith and Leon Green of Van Buren; one sister, Marie Fant of Fort Smith; 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held April 7 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Glen Sherburn, David Horn, Clay Wiley, Mark Moore, Bill Chronister and Danny Robertson.
