Edward Lewis
Edward Eugene "Pluto" Lewis, 61, of Van Buren died Sunday, April 8, 2001, in Little Rock. He was a member of the Booneville National Guard unit for 22 years.
Survivors include one son, Jason Edward Lewis of Van Buren; one sister, Debra Lewis Brown of Fort Smith; and one brother, James Larry Lewis of Dora.
Graveside service was held April 11 at Ephraim Davis Cemetery in Booneville under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville.
Pallbearers were James Roberts, Paul Jenkins, Earl Greene, Mark Morgan, Freddy Pearson and Chuck Lawless.
Joe Mills
Joe C. Mills, 94, of Kibler died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at a local hospital. He was a retired self-employed carpenter, Army veteran of World War II and member of the Kibler Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jessie; one daughter, Shelba Lacey of Kibler; and one son, Anthony Mills of Kibler.
Graveside service was held April 9 at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
Lula Montgomery
Lula Edith Montgomery, 84, of Van Buren died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at a local hospital. She was a lifelong member of Kibler Baptist Church and lifelong resident of Kibler.
Survivors include two daughters, Lou Ellen Gisler of Sonora, Calif., and Rosemary Brown of Alma; two sons, Glen Cooksey of Van Buren and Thomas Neal Montgomery of Fort Smith; three sisters, Mary Jane Bromley of Van Buren, Betty Cook of El Monte, Calif., and Pat Laws of Lawrence, Kan.; four brothers, John, Burl and Leon Butler, all of Van Buren, and Gayle Butler of Temecula, Calif.; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held April 10 at Kibler Baptist Church. Burial was at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jerry Brown, Mark Arnold, Harold Oliver, Jimmy Gunn, Clifton Gunn and Leslie Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers were her brothers and deacons of Kibler Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kibler Baptist Church or Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints.
Tressie Lynn
Tressie Inez Lynn, 83, of Van Buren died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at a local hospital. She was a member of R.S.V.P., a homemaker and attended the Second Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Dibrell Lynn.
Survivors include two daughters, Rosetta June Sukovich of Cliffwood Beach, N.J. and Pat Robbins of Van Buren; one stepdaughter, Francis Briley of Van Buren; two sons, Steven Ray Bond of Van Buren and Wayne Lynn of Alma; one sister, Pauline Chastain of Greenwood; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held June 15 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was held at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Christopher Bond, James Bond, Jim Chastain, Robert Simmons, Tim Harrell and Bobby Wait.
Percy Spears
Percy A. Spears, 84, of Mountainburg died Monday, April 9, 2001, at a local hospital. He was a member of Locke Freewill Baptist Church, Army veteran of World War II, retired carpenter, lifelong resident of the Locke Community and widower of Lila Spears.
Survivors include four daughters, Elaine Tash of Alma and Beverly Donaldson, Patricia Gregory and Linda Rowland, all of Mountainburg; two sons, Alvin Spears of Mountainburg and Rogers Spears of Mulberry; one brother, Arvel Spears of Alma; 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Locke Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will be at Locke Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Orville Burrough, Dalton Williams, Jimmy Blain, Gene Evans and Glen Evans.
The family will visit with friends frm 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ocker Funeral Home, 917 Highway 64 East, Alma.
