Claud Dotson
Claud Dotson, 86, of Alma died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at a local nursing home. He was a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as an usher.
Funeral service was held Oct. 12 at Zion Missionary Baptist Church with burial at Lewis Cemetery in Alma under the direction of Rowell-Paris Mortuary in Fort Smith.
He is survived by three sons, James of Van Buren, Cecil of Fort Smith and Jimmie of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters, Mary Howard of Little Rock and Ruth Moore of Los Angeles; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were his grandsons and nephews. Honorary pallbearers were the men of Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
Charles Sheward
Charles Edward Sheward, 69, of Rudy died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at his home. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a retired dispatcher for Arkansas Best Freight.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; two daughters, Sharon Novak of Salina, Kan., and Cheryl Davis of Little Rock; five sons, Dwayne Sheward of Little Rock, David Arthur, Richard Arthur and Ronald Arthur, all of Van Buren, and Robert Arthur of Tulsa; his mother, Alice Delso of Tulsa; two sisters, Wilma Cummings of Sapulpa, Okla., and Doris Cabrera of Carlsbad, N.M.; and 13 grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Oct. 14 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Columbus Dalmut, Dwayne Sheward, Curtis Davis, John Novak, Rick Arthur and Ron Arthur.
Susie Jane Chronister
Susie Jane Chronister, 94, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Zackery Chronister, and was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Edith Thornton of Fort Smith and Geraldine Dodd of Rudy; one son, Harry Chronister of Fort Smith; one brother, Fred Warren of Las Cruces, N. M.; 26 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Feb. 9 at Mountain Home Freewill Baptist Church in Lamar. Burial was at Minnow Creek Cemetery under the direction of Fentress Mortuary.
Pallbearers were Harold Steed, Daniel Chronister, Jamie Dodd, Marcus Mitchell, Billy Chronister and Pete Kovalck.
Dea Jai Lang
Dea Lang, 18, of Lavaca died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002. She was a member of FFA, Lavaca High School Band and attended Westark Barber College.
Survivors include her father, Richard Lang of Van Buren; her mother, ReVona “Crickett” Freeman of Lavaca; paternal grandparents, James Lang of Fort Smith and Elta Boatright of Decatur; maternal grandparents; David Coombes of Graphic Community and LaVona Coombes of Lavaca; paternal great-grandparents, the James Duncan family and the Thurston Brownfield family; two sisters, Emalie Lang of Van Buren and E.J. Bobbitt of Dallas, Texas.
Funeral service was held Feb. 11 at Oak Cliff Baptist Church. Burial was at Barling City Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
Pallbearers were special friends.
Josie Rooney
Josie Rooney, 92, of Van Buren died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at a local nursing home. She was a retired chef and a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Smith.
Survivors include two sisters, Nita Morris of Alma and Aleta Davis of Van Buren; two nieces and four nephews.
Funeral service was held Feb. 11 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Chapel. Burial was held at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were her family members.
