Alice Toler
Alice V. Toler, 80, of Van Buren died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002. She was a homemaker, loved music and was a Methodist.
Survivors include her husband, Charles R. Toler; one daughter, Fredrecia Whittenburg of Aurburn; one son, William Nellums of Kansas City, Mo.; three stepchildren; two sisters, Marion Vanes of Fredonia, Del., and Dawn Ellinsworth of Milford, Del.; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held Feb. 11 at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Murray Funeral Home of Durant, Okla. Local arrangements were by Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Lorene Nolan
Lorene Nolan, 80, of Van Buren died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker and member of Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Partain of Uniontown; three sons, Scottie Nolan of Gentry and Glynn Nolan and Donald Nolan, both of Uniontown; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held Feb. 12 at Allison Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were her grandsons and Richard Hunter.
Teddy Burt Sr.
Teddy Floyd Burt Sr., 64, of Mulberry died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002. He was a retired U.T.C. chief petty officer in the Navy with 20 years of service, 34 years with the Arkansas Valley Electric Coop Corp. and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his companion, Carrie Lavon O’Brien of Grove, Okla.; four daughters, Karen Lavonne Hudson, Rhonda Lee Robison and Donna Christine Johnston, all of Ozark, and Janice Lynn Doss, of Piedmont, Okla.; one son, Teddy Floyd Burt Jr. of Ozark; one sister, Barbara Cochran of Fort Smith; two brothers, Joe Burt of Stigler and Willie D. Burt of Fort Smith; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Feb. 12 at Ocker Funeral Chapel. Burial was at U.S. National Cemetery with full military honors under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were the military.
Honorary pallbearers were Melissa Holt, Sidney O’Bar, Terry Masgengale, Glenn Warren, W.C. Bill Young and Ralph Spencer.
Helen M. Harris
Helen Harris, 83, of Alma died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ in Alma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Harris.
Survivors include one son, James Harris of Alma; three sisters, Hazel Lowery of Kansas City, Mo., Doris Richmond of Salem, Mo., and Betty Piff of Englishtown, N.J.; one brother, Norman Wells of McAllen, Texas; two grandchildren, Raoul Harris of Van Buren and Amber Stanart of Alma; two great-grandchildren, Miranda Harris and Mariah Harris, both of Van Buren.
Graveside service was held Feb. 12 at U.S. National Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Tommy Hurst
Tommy Dean Hurst, 68, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002. He was a retired police officer for the city of Fort Smith for over 24 years, member of the Arkansas Municipal Police Association, Arkansas Retired Municipal Police Association, American Legion Post No. 31 and V.F.W. post No. 2036, Army veteran and attended Harvest Time Tabernacle.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine; four sons, Marty Hurst of Van Buren, Keith Hurst of Houston, Texas, Steve Hurst of Greenwood and Wesley Hurst of Fort Smith; one sister, Mozelle Stallings of Bonita, La.; eight grandchildren, Shawn, Mart, Blake, Brayden, Miranda, Whitney, Kortney and Kassidy.
Funeral service was held Feb. 13 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Hess Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Rex Mathews, Harley Thomas, Tom Masingale, Russell Bartlett, Ronnie Atkins and Donald Ray Hurst.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Fort Smith Police Department.
