Esther Pullus
Ester Pullus, 84, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, in Van Buren. She attended St. Michael's Catholic Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, George Pullus; two daughters, Patricia Edwards and Susan Lamar, both of Van Buren; and four grandchildren.
Memorial service was held Feb. 3 at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Burial was at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Lea Turner
Lea Riddle Turner, 83, of Fort Smith died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, in Fort Smith. She was a retired elementary school teacher for Van Buren Public Schools, and a 1934 graduate of Van Buren High School where she was homecoming queen and Pointer cheerleader. She was a 1936 graduate of Central Baptist College in Conway and member of First United Methodist Church and Gleanors Sunday school class. She was a volunteer for Sparks Regional Medical Center and on the women's board.
Survivors include her husband, Finley; three daughters, Anne Carolyn Turner of Fort Smith, Janie Turner Lowe of Little Rock and Patti Turner Lueck of Northfield, Minn.; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral service was held Feb. 7 at Roebuck Chapel of First United Methodist Church. Private family burial was at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Gleanors Sunday school class.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 N. 15th St., Fort Smith, Ark., 72901.
William Bass
William Lee "Bill" Bass, 70, of Fayetteville died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at a Fayetteville hospital. The veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars served more than 20 years in the Army and Air Force, receiving numerous citations including the Bronze Star. He retired as a tech sergeant, was a Baptist and formerly of Van Buren and Muskogee.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; two stepsons, Winston Harvey of Tulsa and Gary Harvey of Fayetteville; one sister, Nadine Wood of Muskogee; one brother, Melvin Bass of Muskogee; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Feb. 1 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was at U.S. National Cemetery with full military honors under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were military personnel.
Jerusha Dill
Jerusha Dill, 78, of Long Beach, Calif., died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, in Long Beach. The former resident of Chester was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include two nieces, Barbara Ann White of Norwalk, Calif., and Coleen Costa of Lancaster, Calif.
Graveside service was held Feb. 1 at Mount McCurry Cemetery near Rudy under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
James Edwards
James F. Edwards, 71, of Mulberry died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at a Fort Smith hospital. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, deacon and Sunday school teacher at Mulberry First Baptist Church and former owner of Jim's Grocery in Mulberry.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Edwards; two daughters, Sandy Allen and Cindy Tobey, both of Mulberry; one son, Jim Edwards of Fort Smith; four sisters, Nina Braden of Limestone, Ark., Neva Tilseth and Joyce Cervantes, both of Albuquerque, N.M., and Faye Fulford of Elizabethtown, N.C.; one brother, R.B. Edwards of Mulberry; three grandchildren, John Allen of Mulberry, Lori McCalister of Alma and Erin Tobey of Mobile, Ala.; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor BreeAnne of Alma and Hayden James of Mulberry.
Funeral service was held Feb. 2 at Mulberry First Baptist Church. Burial was at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Frank Allen, Ermon Crabtree, David Martin, Fred Moon, David Moody and Jimmy Moore. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Mulberry First Baptist Church.
