John Medlock
John E. Medlock, 68, of Alma died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at a local hospital. She was a member of Alma Heights Baptist Church, retired businessman and Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Medlock; two sons, Darryl Medlock and Brent Medlock, both of Alma; three sisters, Freda Adams and Anna Gabbert, both of Independence, Mo., and Ruth Duniven of Alma; four brothers, John Medlock of Dyer, Jimmy Medlock of Alma, Jerry Medlock of Van Buren and Jerald Medlock of Altus; and five grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 20 at Ocker Chapel of Alma. Burial was at Alma City Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Kent, Clint, D.J., Brandon and Mike Medlock and Gary Pinkerton.
Soumountha Mixayphone
Soumountha Mixayphone, 73, of Van Buren died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker and Buddist.
Survivors include her husband, Keo; four daughters, Sompha Chalensack, Aloun Keobounham and Bounleuah Chounelamany, all of Van Buren, and Sika Rattahasinh of California; two sons, Thomas of Van Buren and Metta of Laos; one brother, Bounnhok of Chaleunsack of Laos; 24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 20 at Lewis Funeral Chapel. The body was cremated.
Pallbearers were Alan and Arnold Chaleunsack, Soney Aloun, Buasay Keobounham, Toy Sisoukrath and Nhong Phaxay.
Frances Parks
Frances Lucell Parks, 77, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at a local hospital. She was a member of Freewill Baptist Church in the Catcher Community and widow of Homer Parks.
Survivors include six daughters, Patricia Gilcrease and Evelyn Gill Mosley, both of Van Buren, Loretta Roscoe of Kibler and Reba Ratterree, Linda Person and Janice Beckham, all of Fort Smith; two sons, Roger Parks and Rickey Parks, both of Kibler; three sisters, Mable Cox of Meeker, Okla., Ora Bell Bowers of Eufaula, Okla., and Louise McGuyre of Mantica, Calif.; 24 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 18 at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel. Burial was at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Larry Ricketts, Jonathon Davis, Bobby Burns, Mike McClendon, Chuck Baimbridge and Phillip Person.
Joseph Rands
Joseph L. Rands, 68, of Van Buren died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in Fort Smith. He was a retired Army staff sergeant, driver for Klein Tool Co., Methodist and active supporter and volunteer for the Boys Scouts of America.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; two sons, Marc of Bossier City, La., and David of Philadelphia; and two grandchildren, Thomas and Timothy Rand.
Funeral service was held Jan. 18 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith with full military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to Boys Scouts of America, 1401 S. 31st St., Fort Smith, Ark., 72901.
Anna Slater
Anna Slater, 89, of Ozark died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at a hospital. He was a resident of New York for 50 years and widow of Clarence Slater Sr.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Ann Wlaskuk of Ozark, Joyce Varrone of New Paltz, N.Y., and Lana Ferley of Fort Collins, Colo.; two sons, Charles Slater of Beverly Hills, Fla., and Clarence F. Slater Jr. of Clovis, N.M.; one sister, Mary Zaroshlinski of Princeton, N.J.; 14 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
The body was cremated under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
