T.G. Watkins
T.G. "Red" Watkins, 78, of El Dorado died Jan. 4, 2001, at a Little Rock hospital. He has been a painting contractor in Union County since 1945, was a World War II veteran of the Merchant Marines, a 32nd degree Mason and member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Funeral service was held Jan. 6 at the Immanuel Baptist Church in El Dorado with burial at Arlington Cemetery under the direction of Rumph-Owers Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Braswell; one son, Kenneth Larry Watkins, of El Dorado; a daughter, Sheila Watkins Bell of Van Buren; a sister, Birdie Burton of El Dorado; two stepchildren, Jeff Tipton and Pam Jovanovich, both of Lumberton, Texas; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, 701 South West Avenue, El Dorado, or American Heart Association, P.O. Box 1246, Texarkana, Texas, 75504-1246.
Ben Gabbard
Ben Franklin Gabbard, 81, of Van Buren died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at a local hospital. He was a member of Calvary Chapel Pentecostal Church in Alma and Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Anges; one daughter, Nellie Guinn of Van Buren; two sons, Charlie Gabbard of Houston and David Gabbard of Miami, Okla.; six grandchildren, Jene Gabbard, Chad Guinn, Devin Gabbard, Jeremy Guinn, Alesa Kashwer and Michaela Gabbard; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 2 at Friendly Pentecostal Church of God in Van Buren. Burial will be at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were David Gabbard, Chad Guinn, Jarret Kashwer, Tommy Gregory, Glendle Barker and Jim Litchford.
Gracie Blevins
Gracie Peters Blevins, 89, of Mulberry died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at her home. She was a retired cook for Mulberry Senior Inn and member of the Mulberry First Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Katherine Hughes of Van Buren and Wanda Dunn of Mulberry; one stepdaughter, Lois Marion of Fort Smith; one son, Howard Peters of Mulberry; one stepson, Bill Blevins of Justin, La.; one brother, Cleburne Burton of Dover; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Dec. 29 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with burial at New Cemetery. Grandsons were pallbearers.
Opal Cochran
Opal Cockran, 75, of Mountainburg died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at her home.
Survivors include her husband, Oscar; three daughters, Judy Radman of Miami, Fla., Darlene Brereton of Bern, S.C., Mary Reed of Mountainburg; one sister, Lilly Moody of Tulsa; and several grandchildren including Matthew West of Mountainburg, Carrie West of the home and John West of Fort Smith.
Graveside service will be held Dec. 30 at Conley Cemetery in Mountainburg under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Matthew West, Wally Reed, Donnie Spradlin and Carlos Ridenour.
Myrtle Brewer
Myrtle McGehee Brewer, 88, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker and widow of Quince Brewer.
Survivors include one sister, Marie Roff of Fontana, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Jan. 2 at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel. Burial was at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
