Roger Curry
Roger Keith Curry, 14, of Van Buren died Feb. 7, 2002, in Van Buren. Roger was a student at Coleman Junior High in Van Buren where he loved to act, often joining the School’s Drama Club and performing skits at church. Basketball was one of his many loves, and Michael Jordan was his favorite player. Roger also won a three-point shooting contest at his school. He had a passion for writing and wrote numerous short stories and poems, and often edited the school papers. At age 12, Young Americans, published one of his works in the 2000 edition of the “Anthology of Poetry.”
Roger resided with and is survived by his aunt and uncle, Jay and Tammy Douglas of Van Buren. He also is survived by his mother, Cheryl L. Curry of Fayetteville; three sisters, Brittany Curry, Nicole Curry and Karyssa Curry, all of Fayetteville, his cousins, David Douglas, Michael Douglas, Nicolas Douglas and Tiffany Douglas, all of Van Buren; his maternal grandparents, Nancy and Gerald Lewis of Fort Smith; paternal grandparents, David and Ollie Birkett of Mukilteo, Wash., and Joe McVey of Fort Smith; uncles, Bobby Ackerman of San Diego, Calif., Dewayne Ackerman of Van Buren, Jim Curry of Arlington, Wash., and Dave Curry of Glendora, Calif. He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Keith Curry Sr., and his aunt, Summer McVey.
Memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. The body will be cremated under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Merle Decker
Merle Wayne Decker, 69, of Mountainburg died March 7, 2002. He was a self-employed welder, auto mechanic and Navy veteran.
Survivors include two daughters, Terri Morgan of Mountainburg, Sheri Lynn Davidson of Fayetteville; one sister, Marlene Waterson of Fayetteville; one brother, Jimmy Decker of Tulsa; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held March 6 at Freedom Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Shay Palmer, Jackie Moore II, Matt Byron and Leonard Seratt.
Lillie Kane
Lillie C. Kane, 65, of Olathe, Kan., died Friday, March 8, 2002, at her residence after a three-year battle with cancer. She was born on Oct. 30, 1936 in Non, Okla.
Survivors include two sons, Dave Sill and wife, Carla, and Dan Sill, both of Olathe; four daughters, Judy Rider and husband, Gary, Carol Haart and husband, Will, Debi Logan and husband, Wade, all of Olathe, and Vicki Hosfelt and husband, Doug of Baxter Springs, Kan.; two brothers, James Fisher and Bud Fisher, both of Holdenville, Okla.; two sisters, Elma Medler of Shawnee, Okla., and Margaret Byrd of New Mexico; 14 grandchildren, Jason Robbins, Tori Logan, Lyle Logan, Tara Logan, Eric Sill, Ashlee Sill, Misty Rider, Michelle Rider, Josh Rider, Vince Rider, Danny Hosfelt, Jesse Hosfelt, Sasha Hosfelt and Kara Hosfelt; four great-grandchildren, Corey Williams, Jessica Williams, Isaiah Rider and Jonathan Hosfelt.
Funeral services was held March 13 at W.L. Frye and Son Chapel, 105 E. Loula, Olathe. Burial was at Olathe Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sister Servants of Mary, 800 N. 18th St., Kansas City, KS 66102.
Noah Irvan
Noah G. Irvan, 75, of Boise, Idaho, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002. He served in the Army medical division during World War II, worked for Roy C. Davidson Co. and later Bob Rice Ford as parts manager.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; a son, Michael Irvan of Boise; a daughter, Donna Revels of Eagle, Idaho; two brothers, Earl Irvan and Donald Irvan, both of Van Buren; one sister, Helen Flannery of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial service was held March 1 at the First Baptist Church of Eagle. Burial was under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel, Meridian, Idaho.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Eagle Building Fund, P.O. Box 156, Eagle, Idaho 83616.
Kenneth Smith
Kenneth E. Smith, 70, of Van Buren died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at a local hospital. He was a 12-year Army veteran and served in the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Survivors include a niece, Rebecca Linton of Van Buren.
Cremains will be interred at a later date at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith. The body was cremated under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
