James Garrett
James Edward Garrett, 75, of Van Buren died Friday, March 22, 2002. He was a disabled Army and Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War and a member of Cedarville Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Deborah Franklin of Van Buren; two sons, Dickie Ray Garrett and Danny M. Garrett, both of Van Buren; two sisters, Betty Chapman of Cedarville and Joyce Upton of Marysville, Calif.; four brothers, Bill Garrett of Van Buren, Paul Garrett and Johnnie Garrett, both of Cedarville, and Robert Garrett of Alma; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held March 25 at Ocker Memorial Chapel of Van Buren. Burial was at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were be his grandsons, Dickie Garrett Jr., Nick Garrett, Eli Garrett, Aaron Newell, Jessie Murphy, Travis Prescott, Danny Berg and Bo Cherry.
Charles Arbuckle
Charles Malcolm Arbuckle, 83, of Mountainburg died Monday, March 18, 2002, at a local hospital. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Sunflower Lodge, Scottish Rite, High 12 and Eastern Star Ivy Leaf in Wichita, Kan., a lifetime member of Mountainburg Clear Creek Lodge No. 332, past worthy patron of Clear Creek Eastern Star, the American Legion in Wichita, a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Wichita, Kan., and attended the Mountainburg Presbyterian Church and was retired aircraft inspector for Boeing Aircraft after 45 years service
Survivors include his wife, Mary; two daughters, Charlotte L. Pate of Wichita, Kan. and Sally J. Arbuckle of Garfield; a son, Stephen P. Arbuckle of Phoenix; five stepdaughters, Donata Reindehl of Mountainburg, Mary Quallo of Florissant, Mo., Judy Humble of Van Buren, Maggie Butler of Fort Smith and Brenda Morgan of Alma; a sister, Mildred Morgan of Battlecreek, Mich.; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral service was held March 22 at Mountainburg Presbyterian Church. Burial was held at Conley Cemetery with Masonic graveside services under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Honorary pallbearers will be Clear Creek Masonic Lodge and the Presbyterian Men Morning Coffee Group.
Summer Lovette
Summer Dawn Lovette, 19, of Van Buren died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where she was stage manager and a member of Quest, a graduate of Van Buren High School class of 2001 and a member of the National Honor Society, 4-H and King Opera House’s John Doe Theater Group.
Memorial service was held March 22 at Harvest Time Tabernacle. The body was cremated under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by adoptive parents, Floyd “Buddy” and Jeannette Lovette of Van Buren and birth parents, Kelly Smith of Van Buren and Harold Overmyer of Winslow; three sisters, Kimberly Phillips and Michelle Lovette, both of Van Buren, and Katherine Blair of Rock Island; and a brother, J.W. Smith of Van Buren.
Florence Edgar
Florence Edgar, 72, of Ozark died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at a local nursing home. She was a homemaker and a Pentecostal. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Edgar.
Survivors include four daughters, Betty Ferguson and Nora Severson, both of Mulberry, and Cathern Parker and Mary Heginger, both of Mountainburg; six sons, Eugene Wiggins of Van Buren, Andy Edgar of North Vernon, Ind., James Edgar of Ozark, Darrell Edgar of Mulberry, and Joe Edgar and Bobby Edgar, both of Mountainburg; a sister, Lucy Sampley of Altus; two brothers, Jim Campbell of Greenwood and Floyd Campbell of Spiro; 30 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held March 23 at Houston Cemetery in Alix under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
Adrian Nelson
Adrian Nelson, 70, of Mulberry died Friday, April 5, 2002, at a local hospital. He was retired sergeant first class of the Army, serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars, was post commander of Chapter No. 42 Alma DAV, member of VFW Post No. 6465 in Alma, American Ramey Lodge No. 487 in Mulberry, Eastern Star Ramey Lodge No. 260 in Mulberry, American Legion Post No. 0149 in Mulberry, historian for the State DAV, a board member of Pope Cemetery and worked for Fort Chaffee, Alma Canning Co. and the U.S. Forestry Service and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Emma; two daughters, Luann Wise of Mulberry and Misty Nelson of the home; five sons, Bill Nelson of Alma, Kenneth Nelson of Texas, Bruce Nelson of Mulberry, Chad Nelson of Van Buren and Rolland Nelson of Fort Smith; two sisters, Velta Edwards of Keota, Okla., and Ruby Chrisman of Paola, Kan.; two brothers, Hubert Nelson of Alma and Dolan Nelson of Mulberry; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held April 8 at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Pope Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were members of Alma D.A.V. Chapter No. 42.
Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 42 of Alma.
