Hannah McPeak
Hannah McPeak, 91, of Van Buren, formerly of Gillett, died peacefully April 3, 2002, in Van Buren. She was the widow of Custer McPeak. She was a homemaker and attended First Baptist Church in Van Buren.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lou and Frank Titsworth of Van Buren; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe Tom and Janie McPeak of Alma and Jimmy and Sandra McPeak of Vallejo, Calif.; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also, two brothers, Walter Fietz and Mack Fietz, both of Dewitt; three sisters, Linda Wilson of Little Rock, Velma Nutt of San Jose, Calif., and Vonda Frazier of Kansas City, Mo., and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service was held April 6 at Gillett Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren with the Rev. Mike Franklin officiating.
L.C. Strickland
L.C. “Buck” Strickland, 61, of Alma died Monday, April 8, 2002. He was of the Baptist faith and a self-employed engine repairman.
Survivors include his wife, Edith; one daughter, Shannon Bridges of Kathy, Texas; two sons, Mike Strickland and Steve Strickland, both of DeQuincy, La.; one sister, Sue Bolton of Mena; three brothers, Cecil Strickland of Van Buren, Joe Strickland of Fayetteville and Atalee Strickland of Texas; six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held April 10 at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was Antioch Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were George Strain, Jamie Allen, Bill Barker, Ralph Figles, Jason Symonds and Tony Ritchie.
Honorary pallbearers were Eddie Symonds, Don Rose and Josh Bolton.
Homer Williams
Homer E. Williams, 84, of Fort Smith died Friday, April 5, 2002. He was a member of Unity Assembly of God Church and a retired maintenance man for Whirlpool Corp.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi; two sons, Darrell Williams of Siloam Springs and Jarrell Williams of Fayetteville; two step-daughters, Pat Howse of Rogers and Linda Tietien of Houston, Texas; one sister, Josie Hickey of Van Buren; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held April 8 at Unity Assembly of God Church. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Virginia Larru
Virginia Wix Larru, 73, of West Virginia died Sunday, March 31, 2002. She was formerly of Alma, a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith. She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Arnold Tichnor and John Larru.
Survivors include four daughters, Sharon, Joyce, Cindy and Sandra; one son, Robert; three brothers, James Wix of Soak Creek, W.V.; Roscoe Wix of Akron, Ohio, and Dave Wix of Beckley, W.V.
Funeral service was held April 10 at U.S. National Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Robert Breeden
Robert “Bob” Breeden, 71, of Van Buren died Monday, April 8, 2002, at a local hospital. He was a retired truck driver for Arkansas Motor Freight, an Army veteran of the Korean War serving with the 82nd AirBorne and 44th Tank Battalion and a member of Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen; one daughter, Sheila Self of Van Buren; two sons, Kenneth Breeden of Puyallup, Wash., and Rick Breeden of Hillsboro, Tenn., four grandchildren, Sean, Terry, Eric and Zachary; two great-grandchildren, Kalib and Alexia.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ocker Memorial Chapel. Burial will be held at Macedonia Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Jim Garrett, Jim Stevenson, Marvin Richesin, Hubert Mullican, Donnie Dodd, Jim Marshall, Brad Hall and John Hall.
