Velma Stephens
Velma Jean Stephens, 58, of Dyer died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at her home.
Survivors include one sister, Brenda Gothard of Fort Smith; two brothers, Michael Washburn of Alma and Steve Washburn of Mountainburg; one aunt, one uncle and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Graveside memorial service was held May 21 at Dyer Cemetery. The body will be cremated under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.

Frank Campbell Jr.
Frank Leslie “Les” Campbell Jr. was born on Dec. 25, 1923, in Van Buren and died of natural causes on May 9, 2003. Les was born to Frank Leslie Campbell Sr. and Lorena Paine Campbell. He was preceded in death in by his parents and his brother, Robert Paine Campbell.
Les graduated from Van Buren High School, then enlisted in the Navy in 1941 and became a flight instructor at the naval base in Pensacola, Fla. After his service in the Navy, he graduated from the University of Arkansas where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Les worked as an insurance executive starting at their home base in Hartford, Conn., with Traveler’s Insurance, then moving to Dallas in 1967. He retired from Traveler’s after 32 years of service and continued his career as vice president of Maverick Insurance Agency and a member of the Advisory Board of Walker Insurance Agency.
Les also served 14 years on the Texas Workman’s Compensation Board. Les served two years as chairman on the Hockaday School annual Parents’ Fund Drive and was a member of Schreiber Methodist Church where he served as a member of the Board of Trustees for 17 years. Dad especially loved his family, his friends at Dunston’s and 1st & 10, and the Razorbacks.
Les is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary K. Campbell; daughter, Candace Campbell Swango (Max) of Dallas; sons Philip Lynndon Cindy McKanna (Cindy) of Longview, Texas; Sterling Barnes McKanna of Dallas; grandchildren Campbell Page Swango, Jackson Sterling Swango, Kymberli Lynndon McKanna and Stephen Kyle McKanna; a sister, Mrs. Betty Skokos of Fort Smith; mother-in-law Freda Randall Barnes, numerous nieces and nephews and many loyal friends.
Funeral service was held May 12 at Sparkman Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel with the Rev. Duane Van Giesen officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Robert Paine Campbell Jr., William C. Cage, Dr. Theodore Skokos, Theodore Campbell Skokos, Dr. Campbell Kemp Skokos, Douglas King Skokos, Layton J. Hill and William Owen Campbell.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, 805 E. Park Row Drive, Arlington, TX 76010 or Erna Lively Scholarship Fund at Hockaday School, 11600 Welch Road, Dallas TX 75229, or the charity of choice.

Lorena Kuykendall
Lorena Mae Kuykendall, 72, of Alma died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker, member of the First Baptist Church of Alma and past Worthy Matron for Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Jewel Don; two sons, Gary Don Kuykendall of McAllen, Texas, and Robin Kuykendall of Mountainburg; one sister, Laura and Don Watson of Stuttgart; two brothers, Don Spillman of Van Buren and Clifton Spillman of Bellevue, Wash.; four grandchildren, Shawn Kuykendall, Lindsey Dodds, Ashleigh Kuykendall and Blake Kuykendall; one great-grandchild Adrie Elizabeth Dodds; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held April 27 at First Baptist Church of Alma. Burial was at Alma City Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were DeWayne Hanna, Ronnie Hanna, Tommy Leverette, Bill Leverette, James Adams, Don Adams, Jerry Osborne and Randy Deleat.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alma Police Focus Group, c/o Bancorp South, P.O. Box 2199, Alma, AR 72921.

Wilma Cook
Wilma Lee Cook, 66, of Cedarville died Saturday, April 27, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Cedarville and Natural Dam.
Survivors include her husband, David; one daughter, Judy Kay Philpott of Cedarville; three sons, David W. Cook and Barry Cook, both of Cedarville, and Michael Cook of Van Buren; two sisters, Ruby Fain of Natural Dam and Mary J. Wood of Cedarville; one brother, Ernest Ellison of Fort Smith; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held April 29 at Hall Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Josh McMellon, Corey Cook, Brandon Haley, Tommy Mankins, Lewis Irvin and Ernest Ellison.

Thomas Bennett
Thomas Albert Bennett, 50, of Fort Smith, formerly of Las Vegas, died Friday, April 26, 2002. He was a self-employed carpenter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Robin.
Survivors include his mother, Jeanette Bennett Bergman of the Sugarloaf community; his sister, Barbara Bennett Rinehart of Fort Smith; and his nephew, Christopher Alan Bennett Rinehart.
The body was cremated under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren. At this time, no memorial service has been set.
