Sean LaRue
Sean Star LaRue, 14, of Mountainburg died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at a local hospital. He was a member of victorious life ministries.
Survivors include his parents, Roger and Melina LaRue of Mountainburg; his grandparents, Velma LaRue of Alma and Walter and Mary McCartney of Pleasanton, Texas; two sisters Beth LaRue and Karena LaRue; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Morrison Cemetery in Rudy under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Rye, Chris Smiley, Joey Beard, Josh LaRue, Mark McCartney, Daniel McCartney, Timothy McCartney and Daniel Dollard.
Austin Griffith
Austin Griffith, infant son of Rick Griffith and Angie Edmonson of Van Buren, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at a local hospital.
Other survivors include his grandparents, David and Linda Goff of Van Buren, John and Margaret Turner of Sentinel, Okla. and John and Elga Goff of Van Buren; one sister Maranda Griffith of Van Buren; and a twin brother, Justin Griffith of Van Buren.
Graveside service was held June 8 at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Phillip Bridges and Billy Ball.
Edna Sangster
Edna Marie “Isam” Sangster, 81, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at a local hospital. She was retired from Riverside Furniture and was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include six daughters, Sue Mahar and Dean Murchison, both of Fort Smith, Evelyn Sangster and Jane Young, both of Van Buren, Jackie Hollis of Lake Charles, La. and Linda Brixey of Greenwood.; 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. June 9 at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Burial will be held at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Larry Crawford, David Crawford, Richard Teague, Tommy Hawkins, Kendall Looper and Greg Vandecar.
James Daugherty
James F. Daugherty of Yankee Hill, Calif., was born on June 1, 1924, he entered in the presence of the Lord Jesus on June 1, 2001, at the age of 77. A native of Van Buren, he moved his family to Pinole, Calif., in 1957, beginning a diversion from generations of farmers to a long and prosperous venture in the structural steel and miscellaneous iron business. It was his desire to provide a “better life” for his wife and two children and saw California as the place of “opportunity.” A veteran of W.W.II, he served in the South Pacific in the Navy Sea Bees, building airstrips and using his leadership abilities in agriculture. He was a Mason in Lodge No. 6 in Van Buren of which he was very proud to be a member. He accepted the Lord as his personal savior when he was 27 years old. He served in the Southern Baptist Church as a member, teacher and a deacon for many years. In 1967 he and his partner formed COFAB Corporation in Vallejo, Calif., working primarily for the large oil companies, such as Exxon, Union Oil, etc. He retired at the age of 56, and traveled with his wife across the U.S. three times visiting friends and relatives and fishing to his “hearts desire” His home was in the mountains above Lake Oroville, among the whistling pines and lake view. His more quiet times were spent reading books by Louis L’amour, and of course being a devout “conservative” on such subjects as Ronald Regan, Bob Dole and George Bush Sr. His hero was Harry Truman and he often told the story of how President Truman “even took the pens out of his pocket” when he left the White House because he said “I came here with nothing and I leave with nothing.” Character was a very important virtue to James.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Christine (Vinsett); one daughter, Cheryl Wellman of Danville, Calif.; one son, James Daugherty of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; one great-grandson, Erik James Jimenez; four grandsons, Jaron James Daugherty, Ryan Michael Daugherty, Britton James Jimenez, Brent Ralph Jimenez; five brothers and sisters, Darrol Daugherty and Jeannie Neidecker, both of Van Buren, Hugh Daugherty of Vallejo, Calif., Verna Young of Pinole, Calif. and Elsie Goines of Napa, Calif.
Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16 at Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Paradise, Calif.
