Beatrice McKim, 85, of San Marcos, Calif., formerly of Hardy, Ark., died July 31, 2007, in California.
She was born on Aug. 19, 1921, in Barnesville, Ga. She moved to Detroit, Mich., when she was 12-years-old to live with an aunt and uncle to have more opportunities in life. After graduating at the age of 17, Beatrice went to beauty school. She became a hair-dresser and worked for the next 50 years. She loved her work and the people she met.She married
Noble McKim "Mickey" at the age of 17 and lived happily with him until he died in 1982. She moved to Hardy in 1967 to retire, but opened a beauty shop and operated it many years before moving to California in 2004. She moved to be closer to her family, but she always missed the beautiful lakes of Cherokee Village and especially the friends she left behind.She is survived by: her daughter, Patricia Kohler; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Herschel Nichols of Texas.Graveside memorial services were held Aug. 19 at the Oaklawn cemetery in Cherokee Village. Arrangements were under the direction of the Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland.

David Lawrence Helmers of Hardy, Ark., formerly of Taylorville, Ill., was born Nov. 14, 1941, in Taylorville, Ill., the son of Alfred and Hazel (Ellerbush) Helmers, and died Aug. 22, 2007, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, Ill. He was 65.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion and the VFW. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during the Vietnam Conflict.He is survived by a sister, Barbara and husband Charles Coffey of Taylorville; nieces, Cheryl and husband Steve McMahon, Carole and husband, Mark Harrison, Lisa and husband, Andy Daykin and Lori Burdzilauskas all of Taylorville; nephews, Michael and wife, Angie Coffey of Peculiar, Mo., and Mark David Coffey of Taylorville.He was preceded in death by his parents.Funeral services were held Aug. 26 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with burial following at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Taylorville. Father Dan Willenborg officiated.

Elwanda Crow, 85, of Prescott Valley, Ariz., formerly of Sidney, Ark., died Aug. 21, 2007, at the Shiloh Care Center in Prescott Valley. She was born Aug. 11, 1922, the daughter of Oscar and Rosie (Cartwright) Hassell.
She was a retired school teacher, having retired from the Bentonville School Systems after more than 30 years. She was a Southern Baptist.She was a graduate of Sidney Schools then continued her education at the University of Southern California where she graduated and became a teacher.She is survived by: a son, Archie Crow of Prescott Valley; a daughter, Kaye Trivitt of Belton, Mo.; five grandchildren, Jenifer Trivitt and Erin Trivitt of Belton, Eric Crow of Flagstaff, Ariz., Kelsey Crow and Laura Crow both of Prescott Valley; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Clyde Crow; four brothers, Loy Hassell, Cleo Hassell, Wendell Hassell and Boyd Hassell.Services were held Aug. 25 at Mount Carmel cemetery in Sidney with Bro. John High officiating. Burial followed at Mount Carmel cemetery in Sidney. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.

Mary Williams, 84, of Kansas City, Kan., formerly of Ash Flat, Ark., died Aug. 20, 2007, at Woodbine Nursing Home in Gladstone, Mo.
Mary was born Nov. 30, 1922, in Ash Flat, where she lived until marrying Charlie (Jack) in 1941. They lived in various locations in Arkansas and his home state of Illinois prior to moving to Kansas City in 1950. She made many trips back home to visit and help her parents, brothers and sisters, as well as anyone else who needed her. Mary always made her summer trip to attend the Smith/Sparkman family reunion in Ash Flat, then stayed for the remainder of her vacation to visit her family. Mary was an employee for Sunshine Biscuits from 1950 until she retired in 1982. She began with Loose Wiles as a "cracker packer" working hard, manually packing each stack of crackers. As technology progressed, so did Mary and by the time she retired, the machines were doing the work and all she had to do was push buttons. For years, Mary would arise at 3:30 a.m. to prepare for work and then sit down to hand stitch her quilts. She would make at least six quilts per year, which are treasured by the family and friends who received them. Even during the past few years of dialysis, Mary felt that she needed to clean or do some sort of work around her house every day.As a member of Grandview Baptist Church, she remained a member of the 55 Club and was able to attend many of their dinners. Mary was also a member of the Sunshine Retirees Club, attending monthly meetings.Mary never met a stranger and was a good friend to all who knew her. She found great joy in her grandchildren Shirley, Michael and Paul III, with whom she spent many happy hours and numerous vacations together and loved being Granny. Mary knew that she was truly loved and will never be forgotten.She is survived by: her grand children, Shirley D. McCormack (Paul II) of Parkville, Mo, Michael J. Thomas of Kansas City, Mo.; a great-grandson, Paul R. McCormack III of Parkville, Mo.; a son, Charles D. Williams of Kansas City; her care givers, Jack and Diane Aaron; a sister, Rene Wilkerson of Paragould, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by: her husband, Charles L. Williams in 1979; her parents, Laura (Smith) and Wycie Sparkman; and sisters and brothers, Tress, Dorothy, Ailene, Irvin, Ernest, Lester and Virgil.Funeral services were held Aug. 23, at Skradski Funeral Home in Kansas City, Kan. with Rev. Roger Rumsel and Jim Conyers officiating. Burial followed at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Kansas City.Pallbearers were: Michael Thomas, Paul McCormack, Carl "Butch" Fuller, Jason Fuller, Tom Selby and Herbert Wilson.Honorary pallbearers were: Paul McCormack III and Jack Aaron.

Neda Collins, 84, of Thayer, Mo., was born April 12, 1923, in Sharp County, Ark., and died Aug. 15, 2007, at the Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Mo.
Survivors include: one daughter, Jackie Arnold of Couch, Mo.; three sisters, Mattie Hartwig, Barbara Rogers and Lola Mills, all of Thayer; one brother, Cleo Rogers of Mammoth Spring, Ark.; one grandson, Michael Brewer of Couch; and numerous other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by: her parents, Newt Rogers and Merendy Ivey-Rogers; her husband, Arthur Collins; two brothers, Wilburn and Milburn Rogers; and one sister, Neva Watson.Funeral services were held Aug. 19 at the Clary Chapel with Bro. Floyd Rikard officiating. Burial followed in the Edd Collins cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Mammoth Spring.

Rose May Denton, 80, of Mammoth Spring, Ark., was born March 27, 1927, in the Tick Ridge Community and died Aug. 16, 2007, at the Fulton County Hospital in Salem.
Rose loved to quilt, work outside and cook. She was a loving, caring Me-Maw. She was an active member of the Field Creek Pentecostal Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.Survivors include: four granddaughters, Michelle Buchanan and husband Doug of Koshkonong, Mo., Lacey Lingenfelter and husband Justin of Mammoth Spring, Melanie Whittaker and husband Kelvin of Bradleyville, Mo. and Melinda Hall and husband Robert of Ava, Mo.; two sons-in-law, David Manes of Mammoth Spring and Jerry Vonallmen of Ava, Mo.; one brother, Paul Parnell and wife Jo of Diamond, Mo.; three sisters-in-law, Pearl Denton, Mary Lee Parnell and Barbara Parnell Kane; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Kate Buchanan, Daniel David Lingenfelter and Hailey Sue Hall; an honorary granddaughter, Chasity Butler; her friend and caregiver, Sonnie Sandridge; and numerous other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by: her parents, James Henry Parnell and Elsie Loeffler-Parnell; her husband, Milo Denton; two daughters, Sandra Sue Vonallmen and Susan (Katy) Manes; one great-granddaughter, Katy Maylee Lingenfelter; two sisters, Agusta Honeycutt and Dorothy Smith; six brothers, Hobart, Raymond, Rudolph, Leonard, Wesley and Harlin.Funeral services were held Aug. 19 at the Clary Chapel in Mammoth Spring with Bro. David Roberts and Bro. Floyd Rikard both officiating. Interment followed in the Tick Ridge cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Mammoth Spring.
