Joseph Edgar Broughton, 81, of Glencoe, Ark., son of the late James Edgar and Ozella (Currington) Broughton was born Sept. 11, 1926, in McClelland, Ark. He died May 1, 2008, at his home near Glencoe.
He was united in marriage to Margaret Joy Lacey on Oct. 5, 1946, at Hazen, Ark. Joe worked as a serviceman for a propane gas company.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post 9777 in Salem, Ark., a member of the Salem Masonic Lodge 418 and was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by: his wife, Margaret Broughton of Glencoe; two sons, Lloyd L. Broughton of Ash Flat, Ark.; and Ricky L. Broughton of Bethesda, Ark.; two daughters, Kay Jackson of Ash Flat, Ark., and Bonnie Mott of Viola, Ark.; brother James T. Broughton; a sister, Neva Crawford; six grandchildren, Stephen Jackson, Lloyd M. Broughton, Anne Broughton, Dustin Broughton, Thomas Broughton and Joseph A. Roper; two great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, John E. and Robert E. Broughton; and three sisters, Naomi Willcutt, Nora Francis Carr and Lola Mae Taylor.
Private graveside services were held May 5 at the Byron cemetery at Byron, Ark., with Bro. Robert Lash officiating. Interment was in the Byron cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem, Ark.

Eletta May Medlock, 91, of Walnut Ridge, Ark., died Friday, May 9, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Walnut Ridge. She was born on Sept. 21, 1916, at Cave City, Ark., the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Goodman Fleming.
She was married
to Lacie Medlock on June 20, 1935, at Kings Mill, who preceded her in death in March, 1970. She was a homemaker and of the church of Christ faith.
Survivors include: three sons, L.F. Medlock of Hardy, Eddie Medlock of Salem and Larry Medlock of Black Rock; seven daughters, Lois Dowdy of Jonesboro, Bernice Parrish of Walnut Ridge, Carolyn Conley of Black Rock, Kay Collins and Judith Rutledge both of Imboden, Joyce Howard of Ravenden and Diane Collins of Hardy; a half sister, George Fletcher of Ash Flat; four half brothers, David Fleming of Missouri, Danny, Homer and Eugene Fleming all of Ash Flat; a step-brother, Billy Watts of Oklahoma; two step-sisters, Mary Simms of Missouri and Johnnie Cagle of Fort Smith; 39 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 11, 2008, at the Ash Flat Church of Christ with James Goodman officiating. Burial followed at the Maxville cemetery near Evening Shade with arrangements under the direction of the Higginbotham Funeral Home of Hardy.

Rose Thompson, 81, of Hardy, Ark., died May 2, 2008, at the Presbyterian Village in Little Rock, Ark. She was born May 26, 1926, in Kerrville, Tenn., the daughter of Joseph and Cinderella Bradley Irwin.
She was first married
to Troy Berry, he preceded her in death in 1973. She later married
Frank Thompson in 1984 and he preceded her in death in 1994. She was a retired teacher from the Hardy School System but continued the family gas business until she sold that in 1990. She was an active member of the Hardy First United Methodist Church, the Timely Club, Sharp County Historical Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include: one daughter, Janet Berry and her husband, Norman Floyd; three step-daughters, May Noonan, Janis Hamlin and Nan Ernst, all of Virginia; one step-son, Tom Thompson of Batesville; four brothers, Joseph Irwin of New York, James Irwin of Greenvalley, Ill., William Irwin of Virginia and Raymond Irwin of Tennessee; two sisters, Jean Tate of Texas and Laura Stone of Tennessee; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; many nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held May 7 at the First United Methodist Church in Hardy with Rev. Tom Rhodes officiating. Burial followed at the Bronaugh cemetery near Hardy.
The arrangements were under the direction of the Higginbotham Funeral Service of Hardy.
Charles "Neal" Johnson

Charles "Neal" Johnson 71, of Batesville, Ark., died May 5, 2008, at the White River Medical Center in Batesville. He was born Nov. 11, 1936, at Cave City, Ark., the son of Edward Daniel and Mattie Alice (Cole) Johnson.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, retired district manager for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and a member of the VFW in Batesville. He was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church in Batesville.
Survivors include: his wife, Carolyn (Felts) Johnson of the home; three daughters, Tammy Baker of Sherwood, Kim Johnson and Dana Weaver both of Batesville; one brother, Paul Wesley Johnson of Cave City; two sisters, Betty Laman of Cave City and Eddie Mills of Cicero, Ind.; three grandchildren, Kelsey Weaver of Batesville, Dustin Baker and Cory Baker both of Sherwood; special friend, Ona Wyatt of Batesville; several nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; and two sisters, Lula Glenn and Eloise Davila.
Funeral services were held May 8 at the Hope Lutheran Church in Batesville with Pastor Joel Krogen officiating. Burial followed in the Oaklawn cemetery located at Batesville with arrangements under the direction of the Qualls Batesville Funeral Service of Batesville.
Pallbearers were Dustin Baker, Cory Baker, Chris Laman, O.J. Laman, Blain Roark and Dwain Roark.

Thomas Rhoades, 64, of Cave City, Ark., died May 6, 2008, at the White River Medical Center in Batesville. He was born Nov. 20, 1943, at Monterey Park, Calif., the son of the late John Robert and Beulah Marie (Blood) Rhoades.
He had worked for the city of Cave City and was a Christian.
He is survived by: his wife, Barbara Rhoades of the home; two sons, Thomas John Rhoades Jr. of Cave City and John Thomas Rhoades of Bauxite; one daughter, Melody Rasmussen of Cave City; six brothers; three sisters; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Gene Dan Maguffee, 65, of Salem, Ark., son of the late Luther Obed and Beulah Edith (Kersey) Maguffee, was born on Sept. 18, 1942, at Salem, Ark., He died May 10, 2008, at the Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Ark.
He was united in marriage to Danna Sharon Sanders on July 10, 1970, at Salem, Ark. He served as Fulton County Clerk for 32 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Salem VFW Post 9777, Quarter Master of the VFW Post 9777 for 34 years and State Quarter Master for two years. He was treasurer of the Fulton County Democratic Party. He was a member of the Salem First Baptist Church.
He is survived by: his wife Sharon Maguffee of Salem; two daughters, Dana Gene Shewbuirt, of Texarkana, Ark., and Whitney Lyn Maguffee of Salem; a twin sister, Joyce Burke and husband Larry of Gassville, Ark.; two grandchildren, David James and Erica Lynn Shewbuirt; nephews and niece, Bob and Martin Maguffee, Steve and Ron Burk and Marsha Loftin; a sister-in-law, Leota Maguffee of Salem; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marshall Dale Maguffee.
Funeral services were held May 13 at the Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem with Bro. John Hodges officiating. Interment followed in the Salem cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
Pallbearers were Bob Maguffee, Marvin Maguffee, Lonnie Turner, Larry Turner, Bobby Dean York and Dorwood Crouch.
Honorary pallbearers were Judge John Harkey, Judge Dan Kemp, Gray Dellinger, Max Tomlinson, Larry Kissee, Larry Burk, Bob York, Dr. David Kauffman and Jim Short.

Don David McBride, 83, of Aurora, Mo., died Friday, May 9, 2008, at Cox South Hospital, Springfield, Mo.
Don was born on Oct. 9, 1924, in Salem, Ark., to John and Alta (Smith) McBride. He was a graduate of West Plains High School, West Plains, Mo., a World War II Army Veteran, a Mason with the Shiner's of Mountain Home, Ark., was director of meats with Associated Wholesale Grocers of Springfield, retiring in 1992, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Aurora.
On June 22, 1962, he was united in marriage to Sybil Hutson in Aurora.
He is survived by: his wife, Sybil Hutson of the home; five daughters, Davene Sharp and husband, Tom of Centerton, Ark., Connie Morrison and husband, Jim, of Harlingen, Texas, Brenda Grider and husband, Henry of Aurora, Jeanie Williams and husband, Kenny of Halltown, Mo., Donna Cruse and husband, Danny of Hardy, Ark.; two sons, Donnie Criswell and wife, Nelda, of Richmond, Texas, and David Wood of Aurora; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grand grandchildren; special friends, Bill Hamilton, Harold Garrison and Rick Rugee.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; one great-grandson, Adam French; one brother, Bob McBride; and one sister, Margie Langston.
Funeral services were held at the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home of Aurora, Mo. Burial followed in the Maple Park cemetery.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.

Louise Juanita Mashburn of Williford died May 7, 2008, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Walnut Ridge, Ark., at the age of 87. She was born Oct. 16, 1920, at Newport, Ark., daughter of Alfred and Louie (Justus) Mashburn.
She was married
to William P. Garside on May 11, 1950, in Topeka, Kan.
She was preceded in death by: her husband; a son, Herbert B. Harbor; her parents; two brothers, Charles D. Mashburn and Bertrum B. Mashburn; and two sisters, Mary M. Bottom and Antoinette Scarbrough.
Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, May 13 at the Williford cemetery and was conducted by family members, Anna Newell, niece; Sharon Mashburn, niece-in-law; and David W. Newell, great-nephew.
Arrangements were under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Home of Hardy, Ark.
