Edgar Brown

Edgar (Cotton) Brown, 79, of Lamar died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Veterans Hospital in Little Rock.

He was a native of Lamar, son of the late John Thomas and Lela Bell Cates Brown, retired truck driver and commercial fisherman, former co-owner of Our House, an assisted living facility, and was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine Brown; and one brother, James Herbert Brown.

Survivors include one daughter, Cindy Williams and husband, Don, of Clarksville; three sisters, Stella Higgs, Maggie Smith and Shirley Carey, all of Lamar; three grandchildren, Megan Campbell and Brad Williams of Clarksville and Jeremy Williams and wife, Jennifer, of Fort Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The body was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Eunice Eloise Bolash

Eunice Eloise Bolash, 94, of Clarksville went to be with Jesus, Jan. 20, 2011, at her daughter’s home in Clarksville, AR.

She was the daughter of the later Virgil Zeno and Ann Beatrice Hanaver. She was one of ten children.

A member of the House of Prayer, Del City, Oklahoma, and a very generous giver tp missionaries.

She was a retired executive secretary, past president of Insurance Women of San Diego, California.

She was the widow of her beloved husband, Anton Joseph Bolash, and was preceded in death by two sons, Lawrence Orr and Virgil Bolash; one grandson, Bryan; one infant great-grandson; four brothers, Lawrence, Oran, Ivan, Alvan; and three sisters, Niva, Erma and Venita.

She is survived by three children, son, Dean Orr and wife, Diana, of Fullerton, California; two daughters, Lorayne Orr of Thousand Oaks, California, and Toni Bolduc of Clarksville, Arkansas; daughter-in-law, Dolores Orr of San Diego, California; and two sisters, Dotty Hathcoat and husband, John, of Cocoa, Florida, and Phyllis Downing and husband, Lowell, or Moro, Illinois.

She has fifteen grandchildren including Sean Bolduc and wife, Michelle, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Tiana Walker and husband, Bo, of Hartman, Arkansas, and Virgil Bolduc and wife, Sarah, of Clarksville, Arkansas; forty-three great-grandchildren including Zoe and Max Bolduc of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Laikken Bolduc of Hartman, Arkansas, Wyatt and Blake Walker of Hartman, Arkansas, and Amos and Emma Bolduc of Clarksville, Arkansas; twenty-two great-great-grandchildren, also many nieces and nephews and cousins.

A private candlelight celebration of her life will be held Sunday in the home of her daughter, Toni, where her ashes will be laid to rest with her late husband.

Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Georgia H. Jarrett

Georgia Hulett Jarrett, 92, of Poughkeepsie, mother of Kelley Dean of Clarksville, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at her home.

She was a native of Center, daughter of the late Martin Luther and Fanny Myrtle Thompson Hulett, widow of Leslie Jarrett, retired school teacher having taught at Flatwoods, Swifton, Cave City, and Poughkeepsie, member of Poughkeepsie Church of Christ, and was preceded in death by one brother, M.L. Hulett; and two sisters, Hattie Ruth Byrd and Martelle (Tellie) Bristow.

Survivors include one son, Joe Jarrett of Altadena, Calif.; three other daughters, Rosalind Nelson of Las Vegas, Nev., Joyce Moore of Altadena, Calif., and Karen Neighbors of Tyler, Texas; two sisters, Maudie Brown of Wenatchee, Wash., and Madeline Negri of St. Charles, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Poughkeepsie Church of Christ with George Hulett officiating.

Burial was in Barnes cemetery located east of Evening Shade with arrangements under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Active pallbearers were grandsons, Jordan Jarrett, Brian Neighbors, Mickey Neighbors, Paul Dean, Chad Ware, Mohamed El-Erian, Brian Marrier and nephew, James Bristow.

Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters, Samantha Cousens, Jamie El-Erian, Sherry Marrier, Jillian Jarrett, Amanda Ware, Emily Dean, and Tessa Dean.

Hazel Carrie Downs

Hazel Carrie Nevins Downs, 94, of Clarksville died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011.

She was a native of Brandon, Colo., and preceded in death by her parents, Mary Anna Root and Harry Hunter Nevins; adopted parents, Effie and Orville Mudge; husbands, Eugene Hale and Ralph Downs; and two sons, Donald Gene Hale and Jesse Dean Hale.

Survivors include two daughters, Mildred Mulder of Hutchinson, Kan., and Delores Prickett and husband, Phillip, of Clarksville; daughter-in-law, Georgianna (Sue) Hale of Westminister, Colo.; two sons, Kenneth Hale and wife, Marjorie, of Clarksville and Carl Hale and wife, Marlene, of Briggsdale, Colo; 33 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Sarah of Calhan, Colo.; one brother, Harry Lynn Nevins and wife, Barbara, of Davenport, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at the First Baptist Church in Clarksville.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Joe Crouch

Stonie Joseph (Joe) Crouch, 73, of Ozark, brother of Ed Crouch of Hagarville, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, in Fort Smith.

He was a native of Watalula, son of the late Stonewall Jackson (Stonie) and Maggie Lee Stevens Crouch, carpenter having been employed as district foreman for Brown and Root for several years, and was preceded in death by two sons, William Joseph (Billy) Crouch and Danny Ray Crouch; and two sisters, Juanita Gelene Armstrong and Maggie Naomi Kuykendall.

Survivors include his wife, Tresa Genell Waldron Crouch; two daughters, Kathy Nichols and LaTonna Williams of Ozark; one son, Tate Young of Ozark; three other brothers, John Crouch, Jack Crouch and Roger Crouch, all of Ozark; two sisters, Eulalia Auslam of Fayetteville and Nina Wilson of Branch; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services and burial were at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Mt. View cemetery in Ozark with Rev. Ted Darling officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were nephews.

Grandsons served as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Benevolent Fund, 400 West Market Street, Ozark, AR 72949.

Kathleen C. Smith

Kathleen Cook Smith, 88, of Clarksville died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at her home.

A native of New Haven, W. Va., she was employed as a secretary at the West Virginia Ordinance Works during World War II, former employee of Summer and Company, a steel scraping operation in Columbus, Ohio, former resident of St. Louis, Mo., where she returned to secretarial work at a St. Louis, Mo., sales office of the Goodyear Tire Company, prior to moving to Clarksville where she was active for many years with the First United Methodist Church and the church quilting group, as well as the DAR, PEO and Beta Sigma Phi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Minnie Roush Cook; husband, Harold T. Smith; and two brothers, Roy Cook and Ray Cook.

Survivors include three sons, Sydney Smith of Palm Springs, Calif., Bradley Smith and wife, Barbara, of Altadena, Calif., and Stephen Smith of Clarksville; one sister, Maida Rardin of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and half-brother, Larry King of Milton, W. Va.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at the First United Methodist Church in Clarksville.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 535, Clarksville, AR 72830.
