Richard Leon Smith
Richard Leon Smith, 79, of Lamar died Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Eufaula, Okla., son of the late Newt and Othel Nuckols Smith, maintenance electrician, member of the Lee's Chapel Assembly of God Church, and preceded in death by two sisters, Lilly Dukes and Mary Kimbrel; and four brothers, McKinley Smith, Junior Smith, Hershel Smith, and David Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Emogene Curtis Smith; one daughter, Rebecca Smith Hale of Lamar; two sons, Jerry W. Smith and Richard A. Smith, both of Springdale; two sisters, Martha Woods of Springdale and Brenda Barnes of Avoca; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dewayne Holland officiating. Burial was in Annie's Chapel cemetery.
Pallbearers were Patrick Smith, Zachary Smith, Chance McMaster, Justin Hale, Kenneth Smith, and William Smith.
Doris Ray Stroud
Doris Ray Stroud, 71, of Atkins, father of Stephen Stroud of Clarksville, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009.
He was a native of Robertstown (Jerusalem), son of the late Ellis Lee and Esther Ferguson Stroud, member of the Wildcat Mountain Hunting Club, and was preceded in death by one sister, Wanda Duvall.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Stroud; one other son, Tim Stroud and wife, Maynette, of Conway; two daughters, Ginger Tippit and husband, Joel, of Russellville and Dawn Nabours and husband, Michael, of Searcy; three stepdaughters, Carol Bell of Colorado, Kim Fehr of Atkins, and Gayle Fuller and husband, Steve, of Florida; two brothers, Carroll Don Stroud of Macedonia and Dale Stroud of Robertstown; one sister, Margie Smeltzer of Hot Springs; 11 grandchildren, Danielle, Carly, Seth, Alex, Zoe, Sophia, Lauren, Nathan, Kacie, Carley, and Luke; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at Bob Neal and Sons Chapel in Morrilton with Carroll Sites and Bruce Grice officiating. Burial was in Robertstown cemetery.

James E. Pitts
James E. Pitts, 65, of Bloomer, a native of Lamar, died Friday, July 10, 2009, in Fort Smith.
He was a son of the late Ernest and Ruby Hatchett Pitts; Army veteran, retired Whirlpool employee, and member of the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Betty Spillers Pitts; two sons, Johnny McConnell of Lavaca and James Pitts of Van Buren; two daughters, Lori Patterson of Bloomer and Lisa Crawford of Lavaca; one sister, Helen Clark of Dover; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, July 13, at Roller Funeral Home Chapel in Paris followed by burial in Holman cemetery north of Lamar.
Pallbearers were Bruce (B. J.) McGahey, Rocky McGahey, Zack McGahey, James (Jimbo) Pitts, Bryson Pitts, and Devon Spain.
James Roland Davis
James Roland Davis, 68, of Lamar died Thursday, July 9, 2009, at his home.
He was a native of Heber Springs, son of the late Walter and Jewell Raymer Davis, retired truck driver and farmer, Army veteran, and recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Davis; one daughter, Tamara Fox and husband, Lance, of Scranton; three sons, Clark Davis and wife, Lisa, of Heber Springs, Josh Harlan and wife, Marlena, of Clarksville and Chad Harlan and wife, Nicole, of Russellville; three sisters, Lola Shipman of Okmulgee, Okla., Shirley Wood of Bee Branch, and Janie Warren of Rochelle, Texas; two brothers, Gene Davis of Castle Rock, Wash., and Larry Davis of Conway; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, at the Holman cemetery with Rev. Don Alexander officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers were Baley Fox, Blake Fox, Baby Fox, Madagan Harlan, Tristan Harlan, Natalie Harlan, Tye Copeland, Brandi Copeland, and Corey Copeland.
Jay Dee Brown
Jay Dee Brown, 64, of Ozark died Monday, July 6, 2009, in Ozark.
He was a son of the late Davis and Neola McCartney Brown, native of Altus, carpenter of Local 1836, Christian, and preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Brown Rambur.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Davis Brown; one daughter, Lori Kay Brown Covert and children, Zachary Allen Covert and Jacob Alexander Covert, of Ozark; two sons, Jay Landon Brown and wife, Jennifer, and children, Jay Dylan Brown and Jordyn Bailey Brown, of Ozark, and Scott Brown and Katy Crane of Hartman; two sisters, Dorothy Rofkahr and Levonia Williamson, both of Altus; and two brothers, Harold Brown of Altus and Charles Brown of Ozark.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at Mt. View cemetery in Ozark with Manuel Gipson officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
Louis B. Marlow
Louis B. Marlow, 72, of Clarksville died Friday, July 10, 2009, at his home.
He was a native of Cleveland, Texas, son of the late U. G. and Ruby Kelton Marlow, Air Force veteran, and preceded in death by five brothers, Al, Albert, Bill, Junior and Allie Marlow; and one stepdaughter, Teresa Ellison.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie J. Marlow; three daughters, Ann Gilmore and husband, Steve, and Annette Reynolds and husband, Robert, all of Roseburg, Ore., and Barbara Wintz and husband, Randy, of Clarksville; two sons, Leonard Marlow and wife, Betty, of Lamar and Alvie Marlow of Monroe, Wash.; one sister, Alice Alexander of London; four brothers, Ed Marlow and wife, Dot, of Sun City, Ariz., Leonard Marlow and wife, Suzie, of Spokane, Wash., Alvie Marlow and wife, Cathy, of Mena, and Grant Marlow and wife, Myra, of Dillard, Ore.; two stepchildren, Daniel Ellison and wife, Susan, of Merlin, Ore., and Vern Ellison of Clarksville; 16 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 16, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating.
Orvel James Hays
Orvel James Hays, 85, of Patton, Mo., formerly of the Spadra Community area, died June 25, 2009, at his home.
He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late William Hosea Hurs and Laura Elizabeth Campbell Hays, veteran of World War II, former resident of Hernando, Miss., Bollinger County, Missouri, and Fenton, Mo. He also resided in Texas prior to returning to Missouri, where he began a grass growing business. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Troy Hays of Ozark, Mo.; six brothers, Arthur, Bill, Clayton, Eunan, Hurley and Oliver; and four sisters, Letha Goodin, Annie Mattlock, Nettie Holt, and Jewel Hays-Davis.
Survivors include his wife of 57-plus years, Janice Ann Vaughn Hays; three sons, Lanny J. Hays of Mayfield, Ky., Roger Hays of Marble Hill, Mo., and James Hays of Patton, Mo.; one daughter, Sherri Hays-Johnson of Patton, Mo.; one sister, Chlo Workman of Clarksville; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at Little Whitewater Baptist Church in Patton, Mo., with Rev. Donald Slaten officiating.
Burial was in Patton Methodist cemetery in Patton, Mo., under the direction of Hutchings Funeral Chapel of Marble Hill, Mo.
Pallbearers were Lanny Gene Hays, Barry Morgan, Eric Hays, Kenny Lucey, Dustin Hays, Randy Ratcliff, Joe Jones Jr., and Dakota Godwin.
George M. Taylor Jr.
George M. Taylor Jr., 78, of Clarksville died March 23, 2009, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late George M. and Lou Elkins Taylor, graduate of Fort Smith High School and the University of Arkansas, member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, Overland Park Host Lions Club, Abdullah Shrine, Scottish Rites, Dwight Cowle American Legion Post, and the First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville, served in the U. S. Navy, and retired after 36 years as a pharmaceutical representative for Proctor & Gamble.
Survivors include his wife, Gaye Taylor; one son, George M. (Kristi) Taylor III of Evansville, Ind.; one daughter, Stephanie Taylor of Kansas City, Kan.; two stepsons, James (Florence) Johnson of Springdale and Robert Johnson of Jacksonville, Fla; seven grandchildren, Lauren and Erin Taylor, Eric (Lisa) Johnson, Rachel (David) McWhorter, Nicole Ascheman, Jessica Johnson and Robert Johnson; and one great-grandchild, Tyler Johnson.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Marci Ward officiating.
Burial was in Mt. Airy cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Lonnie Qualls, Eugene Harris, Bill Porter, Billy Dickerson, Bill Holder, Doug Belote, Charles Burcham, and Denton Tumbleson.
Honorary pallbearers were Winston Hardin and Henry Walton.
