Dora B. Hobbs
Dora Bertha Hobbs, 94, of Lubbock, Texas, former resident of Johnson County, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009.
She was a native of Red Star, daughter of the late Elijah and Rhoda Woods, widow of J. P. (Pascal) Hobbs, former resident of New Deal, Texas, formerly worked the coal mines and farmed, composed poetry, retired in 1980 after supporting a cotton farming operation, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Jewel Wells; one granddaughter, Sarah Hobbs; and two sisters, Martha Yarbrough and Letha Stewart of Clarksville.
She is survived by two daughters, Nina Woodard and husband, Raymond, of Clarksville and Delores Cochran and husband, Rod; three sons, James Hobbs and wife, Violet, of Clarksville, Dale Hobbs and wife, Linda, and David Hobbs and wife, Beverly; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Sanders Funeral Home Chapel with Michael Park and David Peebles officiating.

Irene Brewer
Irene Brewer, 83, of Forrest City died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at Scranton.
She was a native of Missouri, daughter of the late John Harper and Sofie Chandler Liles, widow of Onis D. Brewer, and assembly group leader at Sanyo.
She is survived by three daughters, Evelyn Stafford of Heltonville, Ind., Ima Jean Sullivan of Bedford, Ind., and Patsy Ann Brown of Scranton; one son, Onis G. (Bo) Brewer of Forrest City; three sisters, Faye Walls of Bloomington, Ind., Clara Mae Nunery of Camden, Tenn., and Lena F. Liles of Solsberry, Ind.; two brothers, J. T. Liles of Martinsville, Ind., and John Liles Jr. of Solsberry, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at Stevens Funeral Home in Forrest City with Rev. Bob Oden officiating. Burial was in Forrest Park cemetery in Forrest City.
Pallbearers were Anthony Cummings, Michael Cummings, Tony Cummings, Steve Callahan, Steven Callahan, Gerald Callahan, and Gary Vondran.

James Hightower
James “Joe” Hightower, 88, of Fort Smith, grandfather of Kelly Hanuska of Hartman, died Friday, January 16, 2009.
He was a machinist for the aircraft industry, veteran of World War II, and was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Hightower; one daughter; Ramona Hazell; and one sister; Verna Villani.
He is survived by one son, Bill Hightower and wife, Claudia, of Arcadia, Calif.; one daughter, Jean Young and husband, Reno, of Geismar, La.; one sister, Jett Canada, of Dyer; six other grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Monday, Jan. 19, at Fentress Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Matthew Hodges officiating.
James R. Harkreader
James Roach (J. R.) Harkreader, 89, of Hartman died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at his home.
He was a native of Hartman, son of the late Roach and Iver Whitaker Harkreader, retired farmer, U. S. Navy World War II veteran, member of Hartman Methodist Church, and was preceded in death by one son, Allen Harkreader; and three brothers, Raymond, Haskell and Baxter Harkreader.
He is survived by four daughters, Jane Burgess and Pee Wee Stroud, both of Clarksville, Peggy Holmes of Breaux Bridge, La., and Linda Harkreader of Mountain View; two grandchildren, Dillon Burgess of Conway and James Ray Warren of Virginia; two nieces; and three nephews.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Hartman Methodist Church with Rev. Regina Turner and Robert Patterson officiating.
Burial was in Hartman cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Stevie Estep, Richard Plugge, Charles Johnson, Donnie Harkreader, Johnny Burke, and Jamie Harkreader.

Lola Freeman
Lola Irene Freeman, 82, of Dover, sister of Sue Carpenter of Clarksville, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.
She was a native of Pope County, daughter of the late Arthur Jeff and Cora Self Gunter, widow of Garland Ray Freeman, of the Assembly of God faith, and was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Lee and Dennis James Freeman; two daughters, Mary Louise Baldwin and Rita Gomez; two brothers, Arthur and Raymond Gunter; and one sister, Bernice Freeman.
Survivors include two sons, Garland Ray Freeman Jr. and wife, Julie, of Dover and Steve Freeman of Dardanelle; two daughters, Kay Crow of Centerville and Joyce Freeman of Dover; one brother, John D. Gunter of Deer; three other sisters, Retta Martin of Dover, Lela Taylor of Independence, Mo., and Jean Gunter of Corpus Christi, Texas; nine grandchildren, Katherine Irene Freeman, Nathan Daniel Freeman, Richard Crow, Jeffery Ray Freeman, Gussie Gomez, Cora Ann Hinona, George Steven Baldwin, Susan Michelle Baldwin and James Robert Baldwin; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at the First Assembly of God in Dover with Rev. Jerry Patton and Rev. Clellan Tilley officiating. Burial was in Cowell cemetery at Cowell in Newton County under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
Active pallbearers were Roger Sayer, Roger Morris, L. D. Freeman, Kerry Powers, Rodney Koster and Josh Koster.
Honorary pallbearers were Lawrence Beavers, Cletus Gunter, Dale Gunter, Harold Freeman, Billy Wayne Freeman and the staff of the Arkansas Heart Hospital.

Malvern G. Gray
Malvern G. Gray, 88, of Clarksville died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Solgohachia, son of the late M. G. and Lucille Tucker Gray, member of the Clarksville Church of Christ, retired Farmers Home Adminstration employee, and was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Otis Stoubaugh.
Survivors include his wife, Etta Katherine Brock Gray; one daughter, Linda Harp and husband, Jimmy, of Keota, Okla.; one son, Gary Gray and wife, Yvonne, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; two sisters, Louise Stoubaugh of Fayetteville and Joy Uhlman and husband, Virgil, of Wichita, Kan.; two brothers, Morris Gray and wife, Lou, of Bartlesville, Okla., and Tommy Gray and wife, Geneva, of Solgohachia; and four grandchildren, Lauren Gray, Grant Gray, Robin Harp and Leslie Harp.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with John Ballard and Todd Rabalais officiating. Burial will be in Kilgore cemetery at Solgohachia.

Mary G. Snell
Mary G. Snell, 72, of Lawton, Okla., formerly of Clarksville, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, in a Lawton (Oklahoma) Hospital.
She was a native of DeAnn, daughter of the late Garrett and Georgie Daffern Willis, widow of Steve Snell Jr., graduate of Hope High School, received both bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Arkansas, retired educator having taught school for many years as well as being employed as an elementary school counselor at Lamar, and member of First Baptist Church in Lawton, Okla.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Drs. Steve and Joy Snell of Lawton, Okla.; three grandchildren, Jeb, Kendra and Nancy Snell, all of Lawton, Okla.; two brothers, Rev. Carl Willis of Arlington, Texas, and James Willis of Saginaw, Texas; and one sister, Faye Kunze of Waco, Texas.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, in the Snell cemetery at Emmett with Rev. Carl Willis officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Becker Funeral Home of Lawton, Okla.
