Marion Anita Carter
Marion Anita Carter, 84, of Clarksville died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Washington, D.C., daughter of the late Abner Mason and Anita Vinson Arlett Ford Proctor, graduate of Burroughs High School in Ridgecrest, Calif., member of All Faith Chapel in China Lake, Calif., editor of the Johnson County Historical Society for several years, perpetual member and past matron of Clarksville Chapter No. 172 Order of the Eastern Star and Lamar Chapter No. 516 Order of the Eastern Star, and member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Colonial Dames.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Carter; one son, Alan Lee Carter of Seattle, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Myron Ricketts officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bobby Cooper, Dutch Houston, Gary Smedley, Lonnie Qualls, Lance Spanke, and Calvin Yeargain.
Melba Rae Cook
Melba Rae Hardgrave Cook, age 86, of Lamar went to her heavenly home Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, surrounded by her kids and family at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith.
She was born Nov. 14, 1923, in Ozark, AR to Annie Dobbs Gean and Earnest Hardgrave. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Cook; parents; three brothers, Marvin Hardgrave, Gene Hardgrave, Ewell Hardgrave; one grandson, Steve England; and one great-granddaughter, Brooke Key.
She is survived by son, Gene Cook; daughters, Marietta Laneer and Sharon (Jim) Birkhahn of Lamar; daughters, Becky (Charlie) Climer and Ann (John) Price of Russellville; daughter, Annabelle (Gary) Ethridge of Ozark; son, Ernest (Jeanenne) Cook of Casa; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Lonnie Hardgrave of Riverside, Calif.; one sister, Faye James of Clarksville; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was a member of Landmark Baptist Church 47 years. She will always be remembered by her family and friends for her love of music, flowers and wildlife.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Doyle Caldwell and Rev. Vernon Bass officiating.
Burial was in Lamar cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Norman Fortney, Ronnie Ashlock, Bill Stewart, Nick Teal, Dale Caldwell, A.J. Reynolds, Darrell Wheeler and David Handley.
Honorary pallbearers were Jim Harmon, Norman Reynolds, Harold Harvey, James Jaggers, Rip Teal, and Donald Wilhelm.
Acie O. Thompson
Acie O. Thompson, 64, of Altus died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, in Altus.
He was a retired plumber and most recently a construction foreman, member of First Baptist Church in Ozark and the Ozark Aerie Eagles, native of Altus, son of the late Rembert O. Thompson, and was preceded in death by one son, Acie O. Thompson, Jr.; infant daughter, Stacy Louise Thompson; brother, Howard D. Thompson; and uncle, L. G. Howard Bartlett.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Rough Thompson; three daughters, Tracie Smith, Cindy Bramucci, and Courtney Pascal, all of Ozark; three stepsons, Bart Wachob of Van Buren, Bradley Wachob of Lowell and Brett Priest of Missouri; mother, Lucille Thompson of Altus; and five grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Rev. Ted Darling officiating. Burial was in Coal Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers were Troy Blasingame, Bobby Hutchison, Alan Rofkahr, James Tedford, Denny Sikma, and Glenn Bartlett.
Ronnie DePriest
Ronnie De Priest, 57, of Greenwood, son of Sarah Griffin of Coal Hill, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, in Heber Springs.
He was employed by Chrisman Inc. of Ozark as a heavy equipment operator, son of the late J.W. DePriest, and of the Assembly of God faith.
Survivors include his wife, Ann DePriest; one son, Jason Alvarez of Wylie, Texas; three daughters, Jessica DePriest of Greenwood, Aimee Harrison of Fort Smith, and Ali Bryant of Mansfield; three sisters, Marianne Biggs of Fort Smith, Carolyn Jones of Winder, Ga., and Gerry Applegarth of Centerton; two stepsisters, Cheryl Vosburg of Ozark and Kim Schneider of Hartman; and five grandchildren, Zac and Summer Willhite, Austin Alvarez, Blayne Bryant and Caleb Christian.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial following at 5 p.m. at Salem cemetery south of Danville.
William E. Holman
William E. Holman, 88, of Lamar died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Lamar, retired tree trimmer, harvest employee and mechanic, Army veteran, son of the late Pink and Clara Alpha Grace Holman, and was preceded in death by his wife, Verla Holman; and one stepson, Mike Bowers.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Clara and John Belcher of Lamar; one son and daughter-in-law, Ernie and Brenda Holman of Lamar; one sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Gaylon Reynolds of St. Charles, Mo.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, J.R. and Ruth Holman of Matthews, Mo., and Glen and Wanda Holman of Morehouse, Mo.; three stepchildren, Patricia Manning, Lee Roy Kemp, and Troy Wise, all of Lamar; and two grandchildren, Johnessa Belcher and Kyle Holman, both of Lamar.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial will be in Holman cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Dean Holman, Jimmy Holman, Terry Holman, Roger Holman, Ronnie Holman, and Mike Murphy.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Holt, Bob Holt, and David Holt.
Billy Jack Cremer
Billy Jack Cremer, 84, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home, Lamar, Arkansas. He was born November 8, 1925, in St. Louis, Oklahoma. He was the son of the late Arthur J. and Cordia Brown Cremer. He is preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn June Cremer; one sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Jack Butler; one son-in-law, Arthur A. Davenport.
He worked in the oilfield for over 40 years, member of First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, Clarksville, Arkansas. He moved to Johnson County, Arkansas in 1962, he was a 2nd class boatman mate, World War II Navy vet, worked 1947-1961 for Fleet Drilling Company, from 1961-1969 for Stephens Production Company, 1969-1986 for Kerr McGee until retirement and was a member of the Franklin Lodge #9, and a 32nd degree Mason.
He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, a special neighbor and friend to all, Marie Bryant Cremer of Hartman, Arkansas; two daughters, Debra Davenport, Cheryl Ann Pitts and husband, Dane Pitts, all of Hartman, Arkansas; son, Billy Gene Cremer of Van Buren, Arkansas; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation was from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home, Clarksville, Arkansas. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday, May 17, 2010, at First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, Clarksville, Arkansas. Burial was in the Oakland cemetery, Clarksville, Arkansas. Reverend Vernon Bass and Reverend Amos Pledger officiated.
Pallbearers were Chris Sampley, Kevin Davenport, Dallas Davenport, Robert Hadlock, Zachary Cremer, Terence Davenport.
Honorary pallbearers were Tom Fowler, Mike Ralph, Jimmy Leavell, Cody Pitts, Mark Davenport, all granddaughters.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church Mission Fund.
Roller-Cox Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Frank D. Wiser
Frank D. Wiser, 77, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at his home in Clarksville.
He was a native of Havana, son of the late Porter and Ratha Rogers Wiser, graduate of Arkansas Tech University in Russellville and the University of Arkansas with a vocation agriculture degree, served in the U.S. Air Force in Alaska, where he taught vocation agriculture, retired from the USDA FmHA as county supervisor, ordained lay preacher, 37-year member of the American Legion and had spent the last 23 years farming. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Madlyn Wiser; and four brothers, James Wiser, Hulon Wiser, Robert Wiser and Joe Wiser.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Beatrice Trost Wiser; one daughter, Cecilia R. Wiser of Fayetteville; one son, Grant E. Wiser of Alton, Ill.; two brothers, Henry Wiser of Boron, Calif., and Roger Lee of Havana; three sisters, Ida Hall of Belleville, Betty Reed of Hensley, and Molly Fish of Garland, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, May, 17, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Patton officiating. Burial followed at 2 p.m. at Havana cemetery.
