Joshua A. Bourland

Joshua Allen Bourland, 19, of Atkins, grandson of Red (F.E.) Bourland of Lamar, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, at UAMS in Little Rock.

He was a native of Russellville, 2010 graduate of Atkins High School, student at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville and a member of the Rod and Reel Club and the BETA Science Club. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Shelby Bourland; great-grandparents, John Ellis, Earl O'Bryant, Russell Jones and Vera Jones; and cousin, James Bourland.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Russell Bourland and Donna Deeds of Atkins; mother and stepfather, Tammy L. and Dennis Johnson of Dardanelle; four sisters, Alisa Nicole Bourland of Dover, Sydney Michelle Johnson of Dardanelle, and Brittany Rene Bourland and Destinee Jean Deeds, both of Atkins; other grandparents, Robert and Mary O'Bryant of Russellville and Dennis and Donna Johnson of Hector; great-grandmothers, Emma O'Bryant of Danville and Beaula Ellis of Rover; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Lemley Funeral Service Chapel in Atkins with Rev. Roy Cain officiating. Burial was in Bowden cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Madison McGee, Seth Cochran, Gene Bourland, David Bourland, D.J. Glover, James Bateman and Zachary Kinder.

Honorary pallbearers were Larry Kemp Jr., Chris Smith, and Phillip Kemp.

Mozelle Beckham

Mozelle Beckham, 76, of Russellville, whose sister and brother-in-law, Maydelle and W.C. White, reside in Clarksville, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.

She was a native of Saint Joseph, La., daughter of the late James Lee and Estelle Houston Cowan, member of Saint John's Catholic Church, and was preceded in death by an infant sister, Faye Dean Cowan.

Other survivors include her husband of 18 years, Robert Beckham; two sons, Nicholas Balkman of Little Rock and James Warren of Dardanelle; four daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Seth Cottingham of London, Alicia and Gary Pierson of Cumming, Ga., Angie and Michael Frizzell of Cabot, and Melody and Art Sabatinelli of Lutz, Fla.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Philip and Sabina Neal of Canyon Lake, Texas, and Perry and Debbie Neal of Cave Creek, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Shinn Funeral Service Chapel in Russellville with Rev. Daniel Green officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery at Russellville.

Pallbearers were Jacob Pyles, Seth Cottingham, Garth Childress, Chris Hoing, Chris Beckman, and John Beckman.

Memorials may be made to Senior Activity Center of Pope County, 1010 North Rochester Avenue, Russellville, AR 72801.

Qunnen Daniel Tomlinson

Qunnen Daniel (Slim) Tomlinson, 63, of Ozone died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at his home.

He was a native of Harrisonburg, La., Army veteran, logger, and preceded in death by one brother, Harlard Clarence Tomlinson.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Leona Coates Tomlinson of Hartman; companion, Tammy Jo Mooney of Ozone; one daughter, Yona French of Salus; three sons, Albert Tomlinson of Hartman, C.H. Tomlinson of Fort Smith, and Carl Daniel Tomlinson of Salus; parents, Albert Milton and Alean Townson Tomlinson of Louisiana; two sisters, Meanlen Butler of Louisiana and Violet Gale Salus of Ozark; one brother, Clarence Wesley Tomlinson of Louisiana; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Crematory arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Retta Mae Marten

Retta Mae Gunter Marten, 74, of Dover, sister of Mary Carpenter of Clarksville, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, in Dover.

She was a native of Newton County, daughter of the late Jeff and Cora Self Gunter, widow of Bill Marten, Baptist, and was preceded in death by four siblings, Arthur Gunter, Raymond Gunter, Irene Freeman and Bernice Freeman.

She is survived by one other sister, Lela Taylor of Bates City, Mo.; one brother, John D. Gunter of Jasper; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary I. Smith

Mary I. Smith, 89, of Clarksville died Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, in North Little Rock.

She was a retired teacher, member of First Baptist Church in Clarksville, native of Nebo, Mo., and preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Blanche Rocques Barnes; husband, Donald E. Smith Sr.; and brother, William F. Barnes.

Survivors include one son, Donald E. Smith Jr. of North Hollywood, Calif.; one sister, Nina Geiss of Atlanta, Ga.; and two brothers, Paul G. Castleman of Clarksville and Michael A. Castleman of Neosho, Mo.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at First Baptist Church in Clarksville with Rev. Bob Freeman officiating.

Burial will be in Woodland cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Brad Hobbs, Cary Jackson, Robert Patterson, Richard Rogers, Bob Whitkanack and Michael Whitkanack.

Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Castleman, Michael Castleman, Thomas Montgomery, Keith Castleman, and Ryan Castleman.

James R. Willis

James Richard Willis, 65, of Clarksville died Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fayetteville.

He was a farmer, Pentecostal, and son of the late L.G. Willis.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Willis; mother, Evelyn Taylor Willis of Valley Park, Miss.; and two brothers, Jesse Willis Sr. of Valley Park, Miss., and Buddy Willis of Vicksburg, Miss.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Russell cemetery at Ozone.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Guy Everette Willett

Guy Everette Willett of Tampa, Fla., died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at his home.

He was born Feb. 25, 1927, in Clarksville, to the late Ewell and Corrie Riddle Willett and was preceded in death by one sister, Earla Willett Bucher; and two brothers, Edward Willett and J. Mansel Willett.

After serving in World War II, he attended the University of Houston (Texas) and became an air conditioning engineer having retired from General Electric and Trane companies. He was a member of the Seminole Church of Christ in Tampa, Fla.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Freda Kauffeld Willett; four daughters, Guyla Willett Le Grue (Stephen) of Missouri City, Texas, Dianne Willett Shepard of Katy, Texas, Sharon Willett Kline (Michael) of Camp Hill, Pa., and Kim Willett Warren (John) of Tampa, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and three siblings, Verneil Willett Hixson and Robert M. (Bob) Willett, both of Fort Smith, and Joanne Willett Taylor of Clarksville.

Visitation and funeral were Friday, Sept. 17, at Blount and Curry Carrollwood Funeral Home with interment at Garden of Memories cemetery in Tampa, Fla.

Joyce Blackard

Joyce Blackard of Plano, Texas, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, in Allen, Texas. She was born Aug. 21, 1915, in Clarksville, AR, where she lived most of her life.

After the passing of her husband, W.H. (Dude) Blackard, she lived in Tahlequah, OK and then Plano, Texas. Her last year she was a resident of Victoria Gardens of Allen, Texas. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Plano, Texas.

While living in Clarksville, AR she sang with the Blackard Quartet for 39 years. She was always a friend and inspiration to everyone she knew.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.H. Blackard; one sister, Mamie Blackard; three brothers, Carl Dougan, Paul (Pete) Dougan, and Andy Dougan; one son-in-law, Charles Martin; and one daughter-in-law, Mary Blackard.

Survivors include one daughter, Jetta Martin of Plano, Texas; two sons, Bill Blackard of Tahlequah, Okla., and Jim Blackard and wife, Morine, of Carrollton, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at Woodland Baptist Church north of Clarksville.

Burial will be in Union Grove cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at Hardwicke Funeral Home.
