Zearl Watson
Zearl Watson, 92, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
He was born in the Spadra Community, the son of the late John and Anna Stumbaugh Watson, member of the Clarksville Church of Christ where he served as deacon for several years, retired Missouri Pacific Railroad employee, lifetime member of Brotherhood of Maintenance of Ways, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Orville Watson and Noel Watson; and an infant sister.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Wadley Watson; one son, Zearl David Watson and wife, Betty, of Searcy; two grandchildren, David Watson and wife, April, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Zac Watson of Rochester Hills, Mich.; and two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Watson and Josiah Zearl Watson, both of Knoxville, Tenn.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at the Clarksville Church of Christ with John Ballard, Todd Rabalais and Bob Frost officiating.
Burial was in Oakland cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Elvin Brown, Stan Brown, Norman Sexton, Robert Bartlett, David Watson and Zac Watson.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe Willie Perry and Paul Martin.
Charles H. Gilmer
Charles H. Gilmer, 58, of Knoxville died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at his home.
He was a truck driver, farmer and son of the late David Gilmer.
Survivors include his wife, Nelda Taylor Gilmer; two daughters, Barbara Marlow of Knoxville and Becky Marlow of Clarksville; one son, Charles Gilmer Jr. of Hartman; mother, Syble L. Terrill of Clarksville; two sisters, Gracie Coltharp of Delhi, La., and Julia Mooney of California; two brothers, Jack Gilmer of Perryville and Bobby Gilmer of Clarksville; and 11 grandchildren.
The body was cremated.
Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
David G. Harger
David G. Harger, 55, died Jan. 27, 2009, at his home.
He was born in Ann Arbor, Mich., to Arthur Glenn Harger and Norma Dobson and Betty Davis. He was a commercial fisherman, fishmonger, veteran of the U. S. Air Force and attended Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church at Crossroads near Scranton.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila C. Studstill Harger; one son, Jacob Logsdon of Scranton; two daughters, Genevieve Hollins of Anchorage, Alaska and Faith Harger of Scranton; four sisters, Sheree Monroe of Crystal River, Fla., Julie DiTeaglia of Brentwood, Tenn., Diane Henderson of the Caymen Islands and Lisa Obeso of Elcentro, Calif.; and two brothers, Steve Harger of Mathews, Va., and Dale Bever of the Caymen Islands.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb., 8, at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church at Crossroads near Scranton with burial at Nichols Chapel cemetery in Altus under the direction of Roller Funeral Home-Paris.
Donna C. Mefford
Donna Carol Mefford, 50, of Lamar died Jan. 30, 2009, at her home.
She was a native of Clarksville, daughter of the late Rosco and Lizzie Chavers Mefford, and attended Jamestown Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include three sons, Billy Hughes and wife, Renay, Terry Hughes, and Christopher Hughes, all of Lamar; four sisters, Jackie Pelts and husband, Berry, Louise Culey and Dimple Karston, all of Clarksville, and Imogene King and husband, Kenneth, of Ozone; two brothers, Johnny Mefford of Clarksville and Doyle Mefford of Greenbrier; and two grandchildren, Shawn Hughes of Lamar and Cheyanne Rolla of Clarksville.
The body was cremated under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Dorothy Layes-Jestice
Dorothy Jean Layes-Jestice, 76, of Scranton, AR died Thursday, January 29, 2009 at her home after a courageous 15 month battle with Pancreatic Cancer. She was born August 11, 1932 in Scranton, Arkansas to the late Chester and Etha (Pridgin) Hunter. Dorothy was a cook for the Abbey for many years. She was a member of the Westside Full Gospel Church at Clarksville and attended the Johnson County Senior Activity Center.
Dorothy is survived by one daughter; Mary Ann Mellon and husband Ernie of Scranton, one sister; Mary Etta Deal of Longview, WA, one brother; E. C. Hunter of Kelso, WA; two grandchildren; J. J. Floren and wife Jennifer of Paris and Jimmy Floren and wife Christian of Scranton, two great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren and numerous other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister; Wanda Powell Wooten and two husbands; Carl Layes and Luther (Bud) Jestice.
A special thanks to Logan County Hospice, Dr. Richey and the staff at Hembree Cancer Center.
Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2009 at Roller Funeral Home in Paris.

Eula Faye Beavers
Eula Faye Beavers, 77, of Clarksville died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at Russellville.
She was a daughter of the late Willie and Beulah L. Doke Patton, and was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Patton; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur Beavers; three daughters, Wilma Pruitt and husband, Charles, of Clarksville, Judy Ware and husband, David, of Rockford, Ill., and Sharon O'Sullivan and husband, Ronnie, of Byron, Ill.; one son, Buddy Beavers and wife, Barbara, of Coal Hill; one sister, Willene Patton of Louisiana; four brothers, Ray Patton of Alma, Reece Patton of Rockford, Ill., and Tom Patton and Frank Patton, both of Clarksville; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the Coal Hill Assembly of God Church with Rev. John Kindrix and Rev. William Sowells officiating.
Burial will be in Lone Pine cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

George Freeman
George Freeman, 40, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Kansas, son of the late Olen and Jessie Sams Freeman, employee of Quick Transport, Inc., and was preceded in death by one son, Derrick Freeman; one brother, Roland Freeman; and one sister, Kim Callahan.
Survivors include his wife, Robin Hogue Freeman; two daughters, Sarah Burris of Subiaco and Charcina Stepp of Clarksville; three sons, Charlie Stepp of Ozark, Larry Stepp of Hartman, and Raymond Hogue of the home; one brother, Harley Freeman of Ozone; two grandchildren, Alexius Pattermann of Clarksville and John Burris of Subiaco; and two step grandchildren, Nicholas Capps and Blake Hill, both of Ozark.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Lone Pine cemetery with Rev. Mike Minniear officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Jasper Sheppard
Jasper Sheppard, 77, of Alma, father of Sharon Kay and Colleen Sheppard, both of Coal Hill, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, in Van Buren.
He was a retired sawmill employee and son of the late Doc Henry and Bertha Nichols Sheppard.
Other survivors include one brother, Henry Sheppard of Alma; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Belt cemetery under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
