Carl J. Poyner
Carl Junior Poyner, 77, of Hartman died Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Clarksville Convalescent Home.
He was born at Jasper, son of the late George and Judy Poyner, Army and Air Force veteran of the Korean War, attended the Assembly of God Church, retired truck driver with Massey Ferguson Heavy Equipment, and was preceded in death by one son, Dean Poyner.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Poyner; two daughters, Sandy Tillery and husband, Ernest, and Paulette Zolliecoffer and husband, Johnny, all of Clarksville; one sister, Reba Harris of Hartman; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Birdsong officiating. Burial was in Kendall cemetery.
Pallbearers were Junior Harris, Frank Poyner, Johnny Anglin, Duel Miller, Jimmy Dorney, and Jerry Dorney.
Leon (Bud) Hoing
Leon (Bud) Hoing, 94, of Coal Hill died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Peachtree Palliative Care in Fort Smith.
He was a native of Coal Hill, son of the late J. G. and Della Hollingsworth Hoing, retired from the OTASCO Store in Ozark after 21 years, Coal Hill School bus driver for 16 years, and Coal Hill peach grower for many years, and was preceded in death by one son, Charles E. Hoing; one brother, Woodrow (Babe) Hoing; and three sisters, Iva Boyd, Ruth Hoing and Eva Hoing.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Marie Hoing; two daughters, Mary Beth Links of Irving, Texas, and Lynda Harrington and husband, Danny, of Ozark; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one nephew, Joe Hoing of Coal Hill; and one niece, Velma Wilson of Coal Hill.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, April 21, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with Rev. Garland Williams officiating. Burial was in Coal Hill cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Todd Phillips, Ben Schaffer, Tyler McKinney, Donald Hagen, Ken Pinkston, Steve Dickerson, Hunter Schaffer, and Shane Shepherd.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe W. Hoing, Don Yates, Jim Wilson, Joe Brasel, Jim Gowing, Bentley Yates, John Bill Bartlett, Tommy Moore, Gerald Rinke, Dee Yates, and Joe Hurst.
Bobby W. Knight
Bobby W. Knight, 71, of Clarksville died Thursday, April 17, 2008, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Coal Hill, son of the late Harlan and Lorene Davis Knight, retired truck driver, veteran of the Marine Corps having served during the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and a member of the Coal Hill VFW Post No. 8532.
He is survived by one son, Michael Knight; one sister-in-law, Mottrie Knight of Boron, Calif.; two nieces, Brenda Regan of Riverton, Utah, and Shelley Sinclair of Logan, Utah; and one nephew, Rick Knight of Palmdale, Calif.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Monday, April 21, at Hess cemetery with Rev. Larry Horne officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Freda M. Kinney
Freda M. Kinney, 80, of Coal Hill died Friday, April 18, 2008, at Ozark Nursing Home.
A native of Coal Hill, she was a daughter of the late Goie and Magdelene Bray Hudson, widow of Edward Kinney Jr., graduate of Coal Hill High School, lifetime member of Coal Hill Church of Christ and longtime Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include one daughter, Catherine Ann Kinney of Coal Hill; and one brother, Eugene Hudson of Checotah, Okla.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 21, at the Church of Christ in Coal Hill with Jim Bullock officiating.
Burial was in Coal Hill cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Tom McCormick, Fred Breedlove, Leroy Douglas, Tody Hogan, Ben Sisk, and Kenny Styles.
Mikee Joett Reese
Mikee Joett Reese, 68, of Ozone died Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at her home.
She was a daughter of the late Jesse and Mary Elizabeth Ellis Schreckhise and a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, Gordon H. Reese; two sisters, Lula Meadows of Alma and Barbara Elizabeth Conaster of Kansas City, Mo.; and two brothers, Robert Patrick Schreckhise of Arizona and Jack Lewis Schreckhise of Van Buren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, April 21, at the Ozone Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Sawyer officiating.
Burial was in Salus cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Don Lee, Vern Crofford, Junior Shipp, Allen Moore, Jared Shipp, and Donnie Moore.
Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Davis, Jim Mitchell, Jim Martin, and Randy German.
Edith Ford
Edith Ford, 89, of Van Buren died Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Peachtree Care Unit in Fort Smith.
She was a native of the Harmony Community, daughter of the late Abraham J. and Jennie Fowler Ford, Baptist, member of the Coal Hill VFW Post No. 8532 ladies auxiliary, and was preceded in death by her 11 brothers and sisters, Abe Ford, Howell Ford, Henry Ford, Kenneth Ford, Lottie Allen, Alta Standen, Effie Johnson, Elsie Sparks, Noredia Brooks and Bertie and Gertie Ford.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Ellen and H. B. Chronister Jr. of Van Buren and Jonnie Maxine and Jim Smith of Lamar; one son, Don Allen Reeves of Ozark; four grandchildren, Belinda Shelly of Alma, Donnie Chronister of Van Buren, Rebecca Williams of Clarksville and Cathy Lease of Lamar; and six great-grandchildren, Charity and Christopher Shelly, Amber Chronister, Zachery and Alyssa Williams and Harlie Sawyers.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, July 21, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Milam officiating. Burial was in Minnow Creek cemetery.
Pallbearers were Christopher Shelly, Donnie Chronister, Russell Williams, Paul Hicker, Jim Sullivent, and Allen Lewis.
Joyce Marie Hicks
Joyce Marie Hicks, 67, of Hagarville died Thursday, July 17, 2008, at her home.
She was born at Lone Pine, daughter of the late Coy Levi and Gertrude Elizabeth Moffitt Pitts, widow of Joe Hicks, attended Strawberry Assembly of God Church and was preceded in death by one brother, Ray Gene Pitts.
Survivors include one daughter, Rita Joyce Spellman and husband, Larry, of Canyon City, Colo.; four sons, Donny Joe Hicks and wife, Denise, and Coy Lee Hicks and wife, Betty, all of Lamar, Jerry Dean Hicks and companion, Shannon, of Hagarville, and Doyle Lynn Hicks and wife, Karen, of Hector; three sisters, Bobbie Lou Callahan of Deming, N. M., Ida May Lantz of Trout Creek, Mont., and Mary Alice Mullanax of Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, Troy Dean Pitts of Deming, N. M., and Willie Lee Pitts of Oark; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and companion, Jerry Pentzer.
Graveside services and burial were at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at the Union cemetery on Mt. Levi Road with Rev. Donald Carey officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Quiton Hughes, Chuck Hughes, Johnny Vick, Loren White, Jeremy Hatchett, and Steve White.
Honorary pallbearers were Dewayne Dlugosh, Dean Dlugosh, Levi Hicks, Jerry David Pentzer, Larry Pentzer, and Bobby Taylor.
Larry A. Keys
Larry Arthur Keys, 59, of Cedarville died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, in Cedarville.
He was a son of the late Jimmy and Barbara Clayborn of Lamar, attended Lamar School, Army veteran, and retired Whirlpool employee.
Survivors include his wife, Nona Keys; one daughter, Stephanie Morse of Cedarville; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Tanya Keys of Cedarville; three sisters, Pat Lofgren and Donna Underwood, both of Longview, Texas, and Jeanie Rives of Oark; one brother, Eugene Clayborn of Longview, Texas; and two grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua Keys, both of Cedarville.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 18, at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial of the cremains was in the U. S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
