Ruby M. Childers
Ruby M. Childers, 88, of Clarksville died Sunday, March 9, 2008, in Conway.
A native of Clarksville, she was a daughter of the late Edward McKennon and Pearl Elizabeth Martin Morgan, member of First Presbyterian Church, graduate of Clarksville High School, owner and operator of Ruby's Beauty Shop in Clarksville for 34 years, and was preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Brenda Childers.
Survivors include her husband, David Don Childers; one daughter, Nancy Rueluene Singleton of Springdale; one son, Ragon Willey of Phoenix, Ariz.; three stepdaughters, Karen Davis of Greenbrier, Lori Childers of Indialantic, Fla., and Tina Childers of Hot Springs; one sister, Vida King; three grandchildren, Tonya, Angie and Todd; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; eight step grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Vester Felkins, Dain Childers, Charles and Janice Over, and Jack and Rita Cline.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with John Ballard officiating. Burial will be in Mount Airy cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tony Davis, Charles Over, Chad Over, Dain Childers, Todd Willey, Bobby Russell and Robert Crain.
Velma L. Poyner
Velma Louise Woodard Poyner, 77, of Russellville died Feb. 29, 2008, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
She was a daughter of the late Tom and Gracie Murry Woodard, widow of Sylvester Poyner, and preceded in death by one son, Gary Poyner.
Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Declue and husband, Treve, of Pelsor, Trina Campbell and husband, Leroy, of Ozark and Brenda Hern of Pennsylvania; two sons, Darrell Poyner and wife, Elizabeth, of Deerfield, Fla., and Vester Ray Poyner of Hot Springs; two sisters, Margaret Woodard of Russellville and Mary Warren of Ozone; five brothers, Charlie Woodard, Phil Woodard, and John Woodard, all of Clarksville, Wayne Woodard of Hunt, and Paul Woodard of Oklahoma; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, March 7, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lamar Joy officiating. Burial was in Fort Douglas cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Paul Woodard, Neil Woodard, Jerry Woodard, Wendell Woodard, Darin Warren, and J. T. Woodard.
Honorary pallbearers were Charlie Woodard, Phil Woodard, John Woodard, Wayne Woodard, and Paul Woodard.
Violet B. Allen
Violet Bernice Allen, 80, of Coal Hill died Friday, March 7, 2008, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Des Moines, Iowa, member of the Coal Hill Assembly of God Church, daughter of the late Rev. Carl F. and Rosa B. Wood, widow of O. D. (Gig) Allen, and was preceded in death by two sons, David Fultz and Jerry Fultz, and one sister, Margaret Sanders.
She is survived by three sons, Larry D. Fultz Sr. and wife, Carolyn, of Sheridan, Jessie B. Fultz and wife, Mary, of Ozark, and Randy Allen and wife, Mitzie, of Coal Hill; one sister, Thelma Vaughn of Lowell; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two other daughters-in-law, Janie Fultz of Prairie View and Cathy Fultz of Ozark.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at the Fernwood Assembly of God Church with Rev. Eddie Birdsong officiating.
Burial was in Coal Hill cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Larry Fultz, Jesse Fultz, Jesse Ryan Fultz, Randy Allen, Timmothy Fultz, and Kolton Allen.
Honorary pallbearers were Shawn Fultz, Larry D. Fultz Jr., Gary L. Fultz, Jerry W. Fultz, Steven Barber, Randall Allen, David Chase Fultz, and Kristy Fultz.
Allene Carothers
Allene Carothers, 84, of Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Lamar, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, in Tulsa, Okla.
She was a native of Lamar, daughter of the late Elva Bernard and Zula Lois Harris Tanner, widow of Omer Carothers, farmer, and former member of Lamar Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Cagle and husband, Robert, of Tulsa, Okla.; one son, David Carothers and wife, Barbara, of Rogers; one sister, Kathelene Barns of California; one brother, Don Tanner of Wichita, Kan.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Lamar Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Milam officiating.
Burial will be in Lamar cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Anita J. Warkentin
Anita June Frost Warkentin, 77, of Russellville, formerly of Johnson County, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
She was a daughter of the late Olen and Lola S. Pitts Frost, widow of Richard L. Warkentin Sr., retired employee of Tyson Foods Company, and was preceded in death by one son, David Steuart; one sister, Loretta Kay Pledger; and one grandson, Mark Ferguson.
She is survived by one daughter, Ruby Steuart Morelli of Clarksville; one son, Richard L. Warkentin of Martinez, Ga.; two grandchildren, Angela Seree Relaford of Lamar and Zachary Warkentin; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Lone Pine cemetery.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
Charley E. Joiner
Charley E. Joiner, 56, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
A native of Clarksville, he was a son of the late Lemoyen and Bertha Allen Joiner, graduate of Clarksville High School, member of St. John AME Church and 239th Engineering Company of the Clarksville National Guard for several years, and an employee of OK Industries in Fort Smith.
He is survived by one sister, Verna Knauls of Tulsa, Okla.; nine nephews, Franklin Bagsby, Albert Bagsby, John Bagsby, and Richard Bagsby, all of Clarksville, Thurman Lee Knauls of Dallas, Texas, and Charles Bray, William Alfred Bray, James Earl Bray, and Garland Lee Bray, all of Fort Smith; and two nieces, Vida Bagsby of Clarksville and Bertha Bell of Conway.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. William Hickman officiating. The body was cremated.
Pallbearers were Ray Alston, Claude May, Mark Hilton, Earl May, Gail Mitchell Jr., Patrick May, and Allen Ray Chenault.
Everette Wittmayer Sr.
Everette James (Blackie) Wittmayer Sr., 74, of Clarksville died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at his home.
He was born in Hazen, N. D., son of the late Ed Wittmayer Sr. and Vera Johnson Wittmayer, a platoon sergeant in the United States Army, decorated veteran of the Korean War, retired Los Angeles Police Motor officer, baliff for the Clark County Sheriff's office in Nevada, an antique toy maker and was preceded in death by one brother, Rae Allen Wittmayer; and two grandsons, Larry Long and Steven Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Norma Jo Padden Wittmayer; one daughter, Wendy Long and companion, Steven Davis of Hartford, Conn.; two sons, Everette James Wittmayer Jr. and wife, Rebecca, of Reno, Nev., and Tracy Jon Wittmayer and wife, Julie, of Clarksville; four brothers, Ed Wittmayer Jr. and wife, Annetta, of Chandler, Ariz., Harlan Wittmayer and wife, Jeannette, of Charles City, Iowa, Ralph Wittmayer and wife, Jeannine, of Janesville, Iowa, and Kenny Wittmayer and wife, Barbara, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family held a private memorial in the home. The body was cremated. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
John Randall Miner
John Randall Miner, 29, of Clarksville died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident on Highway 21 North.
He was a native of Kansas City, Kan., former resident of Thayer, Mo., and former employee of Ozark Mountain Wood Products in Koshkonong, Mo.
He is survived by one daughter, Lia Miner of Texas; father, Randall Miner and wife, Gloria, of Saginaw, Texas; mother, Lora McFadden of Thayer, Mo.; one sister, Stephanie Harper and husband, Larry, of Louisburg, Kan.; two nieces, Samantha and Merendi; and two nephews, Kylan and Draven.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Clary Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Mo., after which the body was cremated.
