Denver W. Skaggs

Denver Willis Skaggs, 84, of Clarksville died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Ozone, son of the late Willis Green and Bettie Roberts Stricklin Skaggs, graduate of Ozone High School, Navy veteran of World War II, and a retired airplane mechanic.

He is survived by three daughters, Lola Gilbert of Fayetteville, W. Va., Bonnie Jean Dublois of Mount Airy, Md., and Betty Roberta Tough of Maryland; three sons, Edward Nicholas Skaggs of Fort Valley, Va., Harry Roy Skaggs of St. Francisville, La., and Denver Willis Skaggs Jr. of Florida; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Carey officiating. Burial was in Russell cemetery at Ozone.

Pallbearers were Mike Wright, Scott Gilbert, Darrell Turner, Tim Blecke, Rickey Martin, and Robby Turner.

Jerry Dale Mooney

Jerry Dale Mooney, 66, of Oark died Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at his home.

He was a carpenter, son of the late Leonard H. and Sue Matthews Mooney, native of Clarksville, and was preceded in death by one brother, Ronnie Mooney.

He is survived by one son, Stan Lewayne Mooney and wife, Beth, of Beebe; one sister, Sue Lynn Bartel of Salina, Kan.; one brother, Tim Mooney and wife, Robbi, of Clarksville; two grandchildren, Garrett Mooney and Stephanie Davis; companion of 14-plus years, Linna Kae Mobbs of Oark; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services and burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the Lone Pine cemetery with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Shawn Mooney, Scott Mooney, Darrin Mooney, Donnie Mooney, Dane Pitts, and Bobby Mooney.

Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Mooney, Fane Mooney, Mike Mooney, Ray Black, Curtis Umholtz, Jim Curtis, Dale Meek, Bob Hurley, and Dean Mooney.

John Wayne Nelson

John Wayne Nelson, 79, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.

He was a native of the Harmony Community, son of the late Carroll and Gertrude West Nelson, graduate of Clarksville High School, member of the Clarksville Church of Christ, Marine veteran of the Korean War, attended the University of Houston, Texas, received a law degree from the University of Arkansas Law School in Little Rock, formerly owned and operated Mid South Roller Company, and was preceded in death by two sons, Johnny C. Nelson and Michael Wayne Nelson.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Fansler Nelson; two daughters, Susan Miranda and husband, Manuel, of Dover and Suzanne Seely and husband, Chris, of Clarksville; two sons, Daniel Nelson of Clarksville and Joey Nelson and wife, Lila, of Batesville; one stepson, Marlon Middleton of Clarksville; one stepdaughter, Lana Taylor of Jacksonville; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug, 8, at the Clarksville Church of Christ with John Ballard and Todd Rabalais officiating.

Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were J. D. Nelson, Kenny Nelson, Varnel Nelson, David Stumbaugh, J. R. Guess, and Duane Steele.

Lola L. Mayer

Lola (Dottie) Lorene Mayer, 90, of Ozone died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

She was a native of Fallsville, daughter of the late Charley and Chaney Belle Cowan Arbaugh, widow of Noah Webster Cowan, and was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth Duane and J. D. Cowan; grandson, Michael Cowan; three brothers, Dean, Hoyt and Alvin Arbaugh; and two sisters, Opel Stepp and Elva Cowan.

She is survived by two sisters, Marie Kimbrel and Jewell Stewart; one brother, Dane Arbaugh; and four grandchildren, David, Judy, Robert and Carrie Dawn.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Oark cemetery.

Lorene Freeman

Lorene Freeman, 90, of Subiaco died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at her home.

She was a native of Scranton, daughter of the late Joe and Ella Mosley Huffman, retired dairy farmer, member of Subiaco Worship Center, longtime associate of the McKendree cemetery Committee where she served as secretary-treasurer, and was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Logan Freeman.

Survivors include one son, Joe Matt Freeman and wife, Nelta, of Subiaco; one granddaughter, Robin Schluterman and husband, Leon of Subiaco; two grandsons, Joey Freeman and wife, Linda, and Bryan Freeman and wife, Shela, all of Subiaco; seven great-grandsons, Curtis Schulterman and wife, Latica, Neal, Douglas and Wesley Schluterman, Hasten Freeman, Bryant Lee and Dustin Freeman, all of Subiaco; and one great-granddaughter, Stephanie Freeman of Subiaco.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Subicao Worship Center with burial at McKendree cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.

Active pallbearers were David Anderson, Keith Kremer, Danny Roper, Billy Strobel, Frank Guiltner and Cliff Stafford.

Great-grandsons served as honorary pallbearers.

Mary Jo Bridges

Mary Jo Bridges, 62, a native of Russellville, died July 29, 2008, in Tulsa, Okla.

She was a daughter of the late Earnest and Mary Glynn Graves, who were Johnson County natives. In 1968, she earned a music degree from Northeastern State University, served as music teacher at Peary Elementary for 18 years and also taught music at Jackson Elementary and Tulsa Junior College in addition to working with the music programs at First United Methodist Church and serving as pianist at Church of the Shepherd United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, David Bridges; one son David C. Bridges and wife, Jennifer; one daughter, Jolyn Murrin and husband, Jeffrey; four grandchildren, Zachary Hyatt, Tyler Duncan, Cecily Murrin and Samantha Bridges; uncle and aunt, Dennis and Marie Wheeler of Lamar; and numerous cousins in the Johnson County area.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Rejoice Free Will Baptist Church in Owasso, Okla., with burial in Calvary cemetery in Tulsa, Okla.

Memrials may be made to Volunteers in Missions through the Asbury United Methodist Church.

Patricia Ann Norried

Patricia Ann Norried, 47, a native of Clarksville, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers.

Survivors include her companion, Robert Baker; mother, Mary Holt Robinson Viera and husband, William, of Rogers; father, Lawrence Robinson and wife, Mary, of Coal Hill; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chris Robinson and Dora of Rogers and Gene Norried and Amber of Coal Hill; one sister, Rebecca Cannady of Rogers; three brothers, Wayne Robinson and Debbie of Coal Hill, Ricky Robinson and Deborah of Garfield, and John Holt of Rogers; and two granddaughters, Tameka Robinson of Rogers and Sarah Hurst of Coal Hill.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at the Benton County Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Benton County Memorial Park in Rogers.

Tommy D. Breedlove

Tommy Dean Breedlove, 55, of Oark died Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.

He was a native of Richmond, Calif., son of the late James and Lois Morrow Breedlove, emergency medical technician (EMT), and was preceded in death by one brother, James Breedlove.

Survivors include his wife, Lorena Kay Breedlove; two daughters, Deann Atkinson of Wooster and Jessica Pipkins of Hartman; one son, Dustin James of Coal Hill; two brothers, Johnny Breedlove of Coal Hill and Jerry Breedlove of Clarksville; and four granddaughters.

The body was cremated.

Local arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
